What's the deal? Hey This is in response to Chris's posts with the articles regarding Inga (Jewel's original "manager"). I do find it odd that neither Nedra or Jewel seem to mention Inga or even acknowledge that she existed. I think their position with regards to the lawsuit was that Inga didn't have a booking licence in California, but booked Jewel gigs anyway. This is against the law, and somehow voided Jewel's original managerial agreement with Inga. So the argument is essentially - "she was never Jewel's manager, technically". The circumstances surrounding her firing had to do with Nedra simply taking over most of the responsibilities at that time. Atlantic Records said that Inga was available less and less of the time, and they were going to Nedra for answers to do with Jewel's career. So - for the early years of Jewel's career, even though Inga was technically Jewel's "manager", Nedra was the one with the responsiblity. Or at least that's how Jewel and Nedra painted the picture in terms of the lawsuit. The other thing is that the first article Chris posted - from E! Online. The first paragraph of that is essentially extracted from Inga's lawsuit. She *claims* she nurtured Jewel's career etc etc... but she lost the lawsuit, so that claim must be somehow questionable. Anyway - obviously both Jewel and Nedra see Nedra as being Jewel's manager in function, if not in name, for the bulk of her career. Either that or that's their line now - not surprising since that was clearly their claim in defending the lawsuit. Steve. PS - I'd love to see someone interview Jewel about that issue now. I heard that the case was broadcast somehow on CourtTV, and that at the end Inga and Jewel hugged and made up. But Jewel was never allowed to comment on it at the time, but now that it's resolved she could comment if she wanted to. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jun 2003 10:02:15 -0700 (PDT) From: graywolfwla@earthlink.net Subject: [EDA] Re: VAinshtein v. Kilchre and related Cross-Complaint The allegations that Inga's lawyers made in her legal Complaint in late 1998 were completely denied by Jewel and Lenedra. After a hearing before the California Labor Commissioner in early 2001, Inga's contract was declared null and void because Inga acted as an unlicensed talent agent. Afterwards, the entire lawsuit (including Jewel's counterclaims abainst Inga) was settled amicably last summer. The terms are and will remain confidential. - -=-Larry-=- - -------Original Message------- From: StuartnDee@aol.com Sent: 06/17/03 08:32 AM To: cmgroves@easynet.co.uk, jewel@smoe.org Subject: Re: [EDA] Lenedra Carroll: economical with the truth? > > I think Inga lost that lawsuit and it turned out she didn't even have a manager's liscense or something like that. Sorry, but I just had to say it... After listening to 0304 one more time, I'm pretty sure the 2nd single should be Stand. It has got it all. Pop radio can play it just fine, Hot AC would have no problem playing it also. It is catchy, it is political, it is the song Jewel wants to release and, well, it's very Jewel-esque IMO. So, yeah, just this random thought... I was very happy that I finally got some video material. Now the problem: the tapes are in NTSC format and I live in the Netherlands. The PAL format is the standard here so I can't play my videos!! I knew this before I traded but what I didn't knew at that time is that converting a video from NTSC to PAL is very expensive. I found many different company's who are into this but they all ask 25 dollar (or much more!!) to convert one single 2 hours video tape. I can't affort that. Is there anyone who is into this converting thing that can do it for me? Or someone who knows any other cheaper solution? I would really appreciate it. It are all good concerts (some of them very rare). If you can convert the tapes for me you can of course keep the NTSC tapes yourself. Please let me know. - - Floris _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail en Messenger on the move http://www.msn.nl/communicatie/smsdiensten/hotmailsmsv2/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jun 2003 15:03:00 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: [EDA] FWD: JeweLink: June 17, 2003 Here is the latest issue of JeweLink, directly from Jewel's "people", if you want to get a copy of this directly as each issue comes out, you can sub- scribe to it by sending a blank email to join-jewelink@list.jeweljk.com ******************************************** JeweLink - The Official Jewel Communications List ******************************************** Good Morning All, I have a several "Jewel on TV" updates for you this morning, as well as a few reminders for the next week or so. First off, Jewel will be included in tonight's E! News Live report from last night's "Broadway Under The Stars" concert from Bryant Park in New York City. This broadcasts on the E! channel at 7:00 pm EDT with a rebroadcast tomorrow at noon. VH1 is rebroadcasting their "50 Greatest Women of the Video Era" again tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 pm EDT. Jewel is featured at #32. Late tomorrow night, you can catch Jewel again as she'll be Craig Kilborn's guest on The Late Late Show. In most areas, this program follows David Letterman on CBS at 12:35 am (technically 6/19). Some CBS affiliates have slightly different late night scheduling so check your local listings to be sure of accurate time in your area. This Friday (6/20), VH1 will be rebroadcasting "Being: Jewel." This 2002 episode was shot in a-day-in-the-life format, with Jewel wearing a camera at eye level. You can experience a day in her life, primarily from Jewel's perspective, during a promotional visit to Madrid early last year. This broadcasts at 11:00 am EDT on VH1. Late Friday night, tune in to "Last Call with Carson Daly" where Jewel will be Carson's musical guest. This broadcasts on NBC at 1:35 am (technically early Saturday). This is a new appearance that was taped on June 9th before an invited audience featuring many of you. To finish up today's TV updates, I also have a few more details on two upcoming programs featuring Jewel: Next Monday, June 23, VH1's All Access show will premiere the 2nd installment of "Celebrity Pets Unleashed." This new episode includes Jewel and her dog George and broadcasts at 11:00 am EDT, with a repeat at 9:00 pm EDT that evening. Also the new half hour still-to-be-titled MTV Jewel special, which we've been mentioning the past few weeks, now has an official premiere airing scheduled. This will broadcast for the first time next Thursday evening, June 26, at 7:00 pm EDT. I think that covers things for this week. With many of us involved in the Soul City Cafe Music Quest finals concert coming up this Thursday night, we'll probably get back to you next week sometime, so check Jewel's calendar for any scheduling information you may need. I hope to meet more of you in San Juan Capistrano, as well as seeing a lot of familiar smiling faces. We're all looking forward to a very memorable night of good friends and wonderful music! And that's what life is all about, isn't it?
