I've only seen the show once when Jewel was a guest last time...I was kinda disappointed because this time, she was just the musical guest, no interview, except one question between 2 songs, the same old question "what happened to the old jewel?".... She sang Intuition, Happy Birthday to Carson, and Leave the Lights On. It was great to see her in such an intimate venue, thanks a lot to the poeple of Jewelink for letting us know how to get tickets :-) Don't miss the show on NBC, friday june 20th, 1.35 am (ET) !!! Stand - The beat to this song is great, and the intro really made me think that this album was going to be great... Up until the chorus that is. It's the first of many songs on 0304 to have a chorus that totally doesn't fit with the verses. And in this song, it's not just in the sound - lyrically, the verses are great, but the choruses just seem trite and seem like they're only there so they rhyme. I also don't really like Jewel's cutesy girly voice in the chorus - it doesn't suit her. And whoever said that she does this same voice on POY, please listen to that album again. B - this song's okay, I love the beat and it's lyrically great... it's just spoiled by the chorus.>> I agree with you on this song. From the little preview clips I thought this song had great potential. When I finally listened to the album, I was so ready for the song. It starts out great, but then the chorus comes in and it's so out of place. It doesn't really fit the song. The verses are great. Of course after a few listens I got used to the chorus. But my initial reaction to the chorus was not good. I too thought it was out of sync with the rest of the song. ~Elizabeth, the tennis-ball-whacking angel Thus conscience does make cowards of us all; And thus the native hue of resolution Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought - Shakespeare, "Hamlet" Perfect for the Jewel Kilcher Fan! I would want to see Jewel asking to Steve Poltz to come and play or Jason Mraz.. For me no other people can get the crowd more enthusiastic. Jewel needs a loyal funny charming opener, and both Steve and Jason have the capabilities to oblige to that request! Jewel live is not known for phrasing the same way time and time again. To say each was almost identical is an understatement. It's hard to put a finger on but something seems amiss. It almost seems to be double tracked or her singing along to a recorded track to bolster the sound. The type of music she now performs does not lend itself to live performance anyhow. Hip Hop is drum machines, samples and not much on real and live instrumentation. Look closely at the tape of her performance last night and tell me her mouth was not off just a bit at times and for some of the louder vocals her mouth was not open wide enough to look legitimate. I'll throw out another possibility...could she have recorded this track live with her band at the start of this current media blitz and now they are just synching to that performance over and over? Could be. I don't have the cd so I don't know if the song fades or not so obviously a "live" performance would not have a fade. This is not a criticism folks, this is pure curiosity. RIGHT ON MARK!!! why is the world full of people that have to bag other people as soon as they start broadening their horizons or doing something just a LITTLE different to what they're used to? i'm sorry, but all of this is rediculous - she's wearing short shorts *oooooooo* big dramas, she's lip syncing - why would she even bother - she sounds so amazing as it is, she has the voice of an angel - she doesn't NEED to lip sync, and for the dancing - for christs sake, how many people on this list can actually claim to be able to dance properly. from everything i've seen, jewel has the rhythm to be able to move in time with a beat and that to me is dancing - and i personally don't even think that intuition is the kind of song you can dance to very easily anyhow. jewel said that she wants people to fell like they can get up and dance at her concerts - not perform a choreographed dance routine - she's just taking the lead and getting up and *dancing* - and i think she looks pretty cute doing so. regardless of your feelings about the album, or her clothes or even her dancing style - why can't we just all be happy for jewel that she's having fun and the world isn't taking her so seriously as they have in the past - yes the lyrics have meaning to them, but its still a fun album. i'm not saying you have to love the album, and you're free to completely hate it if you want to - and i won't bag you out if you do, but seriously what do clothes and dancing have to do with the quality of the music? jewel is having FUN people - she's a happy 29 year old female who's in love, doing something she wants to do, so stop complaining over every little thing and be excited for whats in stall for the future. okay thats my preaching done for today. peace, shan MARK AUSTIN WROTE: <> Since when the hell does dancing have to be an issue with Jewel? Shes not about dance. And my thoughts on it anyways: I wouldn't even consider what she did on Conan as much of a dance as just getting into it a bit, lightly shaking. And I really think Jewel has rythm (I cant spell that word -_-). She was beating in tune to the song. Ive seen her just moving her hand about in such a rythmatic ways before as well, I love the little touch. It just shows her getting into the song. I thought it was cute, by the way. Also, she wore short shorts at the NBA? WOW. Its not like we havn't seen that before. Like someone said before she did a concert in just a bikini once in the POY days (ill take their word for it) and I have a video of rockfest 97 where her shorts were MUCH shorter. Yeesh. You act like this is all brand new, but you're just paying more attention to it since the word about her lately is gone more "revealing." I don't get it. I don't think Jewel gets it much either; in a radio interview she found it weird that everyone was saying how sexy the album cover was when it just shows a little belly and her arms. Nothing new there at all. << Every time I have seen Jewel perform "Intuition" it seems like she is lip-synching, what does everybody else here think? Live or Memorex??? >> Live. I've never noticed her lip syncing at all. Why would she have to? Britney does it because shes always dancing too much and frankly not a very good singer to begin with. Jewel has been singing amazingly since she was a little girl. And plus, if you pay attention, the vocals are ALWAYS at least a little bit different in every performance. She would have to of recorded herself singing the same song dozens and dozens of times if she does lip sync, and I don't see where time would even come in to do such a thing. Also, someone posted a comment about their friend thinking possibly Jewel was being ironic and "Britney-like" with her recent performances as a joke... I agree with the album there is a lot of irony, and its an interesting idea, but I really really doubt Jewel would go as far comprimising her performances to do such a thing. I don't even find her performances anything out of the usual. She was smiling, slightly moving with the music, and she sang the song the way it was supposed to be sung. (I don't know how to explain it, I hope you guys understand.) I saw a recording of her performing 2 become 1 on the early show on CBS and I was thinking "Wow, shes still the exact same Jewel I've always known." Also, I know its perfectly fine and good for people not to like EVERYTHING Jewel and agree you should of voted for the single as your favorite song, not what you thought would be #1. I'm fine with people giving criticism, but I AM DAMN WELL SICK OF SOME PEOPLE HERE DOING NOTHING BUT TRASH HER. Try to at least be a little constructive here. And since when the hell what clothes had to do with music is beyond me. I'm fine commenting and disgussing it now and then, but I think its going a little too far. I don't know how you all feel but right now it seems that the list is focusing more on style than Substance, which some people are actually accusing Jewel of doing all the time lately. Thats whats ironic. Tom, I was really liking your review, and can agree with parts of it. But you only reviewed up as far as Fragile Heart... You need to post it all! ;D Sorry for posting in such a way guys, but for a list thats supposed to be for Jewel fans and about music, I'm finding this somewhat agravating. Why can't we have a little more substance in our posts? Peace, Mark>> ===== "i've already proven myself, now i'm just having fun" j.kilcher http://mobile.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! Wow, I just got back from a whirlwind tour of Unedited, and it is AWESOME. The first video of her singing opera to George alone was worth the price of admission. Anyone who can lounge around with their dog in their lap and sing like that is... Well, just Jewel-like. :) AMAZING. One complaint, though... The audio section. WHAT A TEASE!!! I was sooo super psyched to hear a full-length, live version of one of my favorite songs (Quiet Warrior - which she will NEVER play live! ) and it gets cut off! Same with the proto-Racecar Driver. It was amazing and insightful to hear even brief snippets, though. Sort of like peering into the whole creative process and all. I love seeing how things develop. But still... Hearing the whole thing would be nice. I think a good contest would be called "Mr. BB's Basement and Pair of Headphones." :) If you haven't signed up, do so now.
