I guess I'll never say anything about Atlantic choosing bad singles (although releasing Break Me was just absurd, hehe)... It's sooooo hard!!! But, yeah, I decided NOT to vote for 2 Find U. I assume Europe's first single will be America's second single and 2 Find U is just not 1st single material. Run 2 U... I haven't thought of that, to tell you the truth... But now that some of you mentioned, it does make sense. I can see it doing well and it will receive a LOT of remixes. I can see this song becoming really hot with an awesome club mix. Plus it sounds like it could do well in Europe. I also am not voting for Stand. I want it to be 3rd single. AND, if Run 2 U is 2nd single, they would have already released a love song, so no need for 2 Find U. Stand is just a perfect 3rd single. But it will be weird to have the first 3 songs released, hehe... I won't vote for Yes U Can either, I guess. It just doesn't scream hit to me. Gosh, I can't believe I think I'll vote for the very song I disliked the most when I heard the album!! Lol, that's funny! Anyway, Run 2 U is fine, it has really grown on me. So, for now, it's Run 2 U... Fabio ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jun 2003 13:57:32 -0700 From: "Elizabeth Nguyen" Subject: [EDA] I voted for Yes U Can! I have to say without hesitation, that Yes U Can is what I believe to be the one with most 'hit potential.' Of course, I'm no expert, but I think Yes U Can fits mainstream music right now. It's sort of a mix of No Doubt and Pink. It's beat is a bit like Pink's new single, 'Feel Good Time.' It's kind of fast with short guitar strokes. I also think the beginning sounds a little like The Offspring. How weird is that?! Hehe. Besides, I can totally see a video for it. Dancing in a club, lots o' barely clad beautiful people. Definately a fun summer single. I don't know if it's my favorite song of the album, but I think it has the most hit potential for now. I think I have a pretty good ear for mainstream music. I usually listen to an album and pick out what songs should become singles and most of the time, they do become singles and they do become hits. Anyway ... Intuition caught the ears of people, and while she now has the publics attention, why not put out a song with still a beat, yet with some Jewel-esque lyrics? Run 2 U is too naive .. while some of the words in the verses are excellent, (i especially like the line "and all the songs i hear when you are near" :D) i think it's too much. It seems like it would make more sense for her to put out a single thats a little more serious yet still fun. Jewel always claimed she wanted to get across the message that it's "okay to be both smart and sexy" .. Stand is a PERFECT example of that. It's a smart song, with a sexy beat. :D Take Care everyone. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jun 2003 17:04:17 -0400 From: "Scott" Subject: [EDA] Second single thoughts I'm conflicted.. I voted for 2 Find U, but I'm trying to think if I made the right choice.. I think if Jewel really wants to have hits, she has to keep pumping out what surprises people.. I think something fast would be better.. Stand, maybe. I don't know. Please vote for your favorite song! Not the one you think would make a good single. Last time, everyone voted for the sappy, poppy songs. Let's try to get something different on the radio waves. If you like the weirdest track on the album, maybe other's do too and they'll actually play it. I would have loved to hear a radio version of LMJLMA for This Way, or Everbody Needs Somebody... Unfortunately we got two sappy love ballads instead, that rarely got played... So, please think for yourself and not as a group. If Jewel flops, I want it to be because people were not ready for the song and not because they picked the most obvious and conventionals songs (This Way). What I really want to see released from this CD: Leave The Lights On, Yes U Can, U&Me=Love (perfect 4th single). But, some of those just won't receive airplay. Okay, here comes my little bitch session about censorship. Ignore the rest of this post if you don't want to hear it... Then why did she ever use that word in the song in the first place? If these songs were written exclusively for this record, why did she write it that way if she was just going to censor herself later to avoid a sticker or bow down to the almighty corporate machine??? And if she "had to" cave to the censors, well... I'm disappointed. All the more reason for her to get off the major label at the end of this contract, so she can truly make her own decisions. I'm sorry, but this sort of thing just pisses me off. Not because I'm particularly keen to hear Jewel cursing... It's just that, by censoring this song, she is (to me) OBVIOUSLY compromising herself for the AOL/Time/Warner conglomerate, which is something she insists on telling us repeatedly that she hasn't done. What are we to believe? Okay, I'll shut up now. ...Rob _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jun 2003 20:00:22 -0300 From: "Fabio (wnet)" Subject: Re: [EDA] Re: censored album Come on, you guys, it's not that big of a deal!!!
