Personally, I had a difficult time voting. I think all of the songs have equal chance of becoming a hit or bombing. People have been suggesting "2 Find U" would be a good choice. I would agree if it didn't remind me so much of "Standing Still." People might think she's trying to carbon copy her singles. A song unlike any other song she's released before should be a single. I voted for "Sweet Temptation" because it had a BritPop/Rock feel to it. It also has the playfulness for the summer. "Run 2 U" might work, too, but that one reminds me of Enrique's "Escape." :) Kat ____________________________________________________________ Get advanced SPAM filtering on Webmail or POP Mail ... Oddly enough, even though it's such a departure from the sort of music for which she's known, and the music for which people (including me) first came to love her, "0304" is the album that sounds the most like *Jewel* to me. It's like Lester Mendez truly helped her realize the ideas in her mind; every track just sounds *right.* I don't skip any songs, and this is the first album of hers about which I can say that. Unlike POY (imo), you can tell that having to write around what she can get out through her hands is no longer an issue; and while both "Spirit" and "This Way" contained a track or two that didn't quite seem to fit, as though they'd been tacked on for lack of any better song to include, "0304" feels so seamless and cohesive, with the possible exception of "Intuition." (I like the song, but to me it feels the tiniest bit out of place.) The album isn't flawless: for instance, as has been pointed out, there is repetition of similar-sounding lines--"crash into me", and "press yourself into me", etc., and that takes me out of it a little bit; also the verses of "Fragile Heart" just kill me. Nonetheless, the good *far* outweighs the bad--I love this album both musically and lyrically (mostly), and though I'm not yet sure if I can call it my favorite, I can't stop listening to it! Just my opinion... ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!>> Not sure what I'm getting into here, but it's been irritating me, so here goes. I *really* wish people would leave Michiel alone. I mean, two posts bitching about him in the past few days? (And certainly not the first time I've seen such posts.) C'mon! Whenever he speaks up, he's either kissing her ass too much or not giving her (or the J-team) enough credit. I think this is due to two things: English isn't his first language, (and so things get lost in the translation,) and, as has been thoroughly discussed in other venues, email is, in general, very open to interpretation (hence the invention of the ":-)" smiley face.) When I first joined the EDAs around 1998 (right before or after Spirit came out, IIRC,) he sort of rubbed me the wrong way, truth be told. However, once I met him in person, I found he's a great guy... So much so that my dad and I were happy to run into him again at another one of her concerts. Guess what? He's a *fan*, just like *you*, just like *me*. Michiel has *as much a right to be here as you do*, people. Just because he's more *vocal* about things *doesn't necessarily mean* he's bitching. Jewel just doesn't get the media coverage in Holland that she does in the states, so I can certainly understand the frustration he feels. Combine the language barrier with his frustration, and you'll easily misinterpret what he's trying to convey. There's a simple way to fix the situation, however, and it should leave all parties happy. As you are free to do with anyone's email, you can ignore his, if you'd prefer. Simply don't read them. Ta-daa! Problem solved. (Makes me wonder what happened to the EDAs after I joined - apparently we were all very close knit. now, we're into petty recriminations and 4th grade name calling? What have we become?) Let's just chill, ok? :) Ducking the flames (but not caring if he does get flamed), Ian, the angel who rarely posts. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jun 2003 02:10:38 EDT From: PSU94CA@aol.com Subject: [EDA] 0304 DL card I received my preordered CD in the mail the other day. While I know Tammy will do an announcement post soon, I wanted to get ready for what will be our seventh trip to the great outdoors. To help celebrate all those times together I'd love to see a post from everyone who has attended on their most memorable moment. Just your favorite thought about the event. For me what the event worth attending every year are all the new people. Like a Phish concert - it is something everyone has to do at least once. I haven't got the CD yet mainly due to time issues. Having a ten month old and working full time doesn't allow for mid-week shopping! And I was not about to pay the inflated prices that Jewel's official store wanted! Anyway, I have been nervous about this CD. I hated Intuition when I first heard it. I must admit that it has grown on me. Definitely not a song I would choose, but it is catchy. However, having my only feelings of 0304 based on Intuition I was nervous that I would hate this new CD. Almost every review sent to this list has said positive things about the new CD. That makes me very optimistic. I am now excited to go get it and pop it into my CD player. I haven't even been able to hear it online because my Real-Player here at work doesn't like the link for some reason. If I had been reading all sorts of bad reviews I think I would have waited to get this disc. So I just wanted to thank everyone for their honest reviews. I can't wait to get this disc. Maybe tonight? If not hopefully tomorrow. That song has been in my head non-stop since Tuesday. Don't get me wrong, I think there are other songs on the album that are very catchy and "radio friendly" but I think this would be a great follow-up to "Intuition". Particularly given the fact that they're really playing up the whole "dance diva" image right now and I think this song plays right into that. Personally my favorite song on the album is "Haunted" but I don't think the darkness would play so well at radio particularly in the summer. As far as "Stand" goes, I'm really not that into that song. Something about the melody that I just don't dig. I mean lyrically I think it's one of the stronger songs but I don't think the socially conscious vibe is the way to go right now either. So, after careful consideration I'd have to say "Run 2 U".
