It first aired later that summer. I am not 100% certain of the Hard Rock Live performance date, but by reading the Jewel-digest archives it seems to have been February 27, 1997. Its' original air date was March 30th 1997, and I DO recall it was first aired about a month after taping, so the February 27th date is likely correct. Listen to the lyrics, she's making a point about todays music world where people sell their bodies and do whatever it takes to be #1. The video is poking fun at this same thing and all those pop/RandB videos with no substance, just flashy images that have nothing to do with music. It was so obvious it's a parody, as well as showing the juxtoposition between real life and the glamour shown in other videos. This is such a great fun song and a new creative direction for Jewel. The video is probably the funniest and most brilliant video I've seen for a long time. 27/5/2003 Jewelle - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THREE STARS Although the song is growing on me, Jewel has completely SOLD-OUT! On first impression 'intuition' sounded like one of those bad Popstars songs...and don't get me started on the video clip, it's absolutely atrocious. Jewel in a mini skirt, singing among dancers...and even going as far as a wet T-shirt display. She's lost all her class and credibility apparently. But as I said the song is one of those annoyingly bad but catchy pop songs. 26/5/2003 Manifesto18 - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIVE STARS A brave and new step for Jewel and she has done it well. This song is fabulous and has a great latin pop feel to it. Make sure you check out the music video also. It's amazing!! Love ya work Jewel!! 26/5/2003 Owen Minogue - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIVE STARS Wow! We got a taste of the new Jewel with "standing Still", but it seems she's taken another tunr - one for the better! Reminds me of the catchy turkish vibe of Holly Valance's "Kiss Kiss". 24/5/2003 Hoff - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOUR STARS very suprising to hear this style from the acclaimed artist - but it sounds fantastic! her new album is not just about important lyrics and meanings, it's about rhythm as well. 24/5/2003 sally - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIVE STARS Dis iz 1 HELL OF A GOOD SONG!!! Buy it!!! Da video iz very hilarious and when i 1st saw it, i waz CRACKIN UP laughin'! 23/5/2003 Levi - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIVE STARS Very un-Jewel like, but fab! She's mixing new dance rhythms with her signature folk-rock style. The results are excellent. And the video is indeed very funny. If you have seen the album cover for her new cd "0304", Jewel is dressed like an 80's Cyndi Lauper! But Jewel, always true to form, is merely making a political/societal statement (which is exactly what the song and video are doing are as well). 18/5/2003 Teak_from_Canada - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOUR STARS Awesome... SHe's completely changed her style, but she's still one of the smartest people in pop. Check out the video... it's hilarious. The rare combination of important lyrics and a dance-y tune. 17/5/2003 mister_cellophane - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIVE STARS Great totally new sound from Jewel. No new information to us, but it's good promotion for her =) Jewel Pleasing Fans Online, On Tour Atlantic Records is offering something extra to Jewel fans who buy her forthcoming album "0304," due June 3, during its first week of release. Each copy in the first run of "0304" will include a download card with a unique PIN number allowing access to a secure site from which users can download solo live MP3 versions of "The New Wild West" and "Life Uncommon." The promotion runs through June 9. The bonus site will also allow access to streaming in-studio footage of the artist, tour clips, and live performance videos culled from her last tour, all of which will be available past June 9. Jewel has scheduled a handful of tour dates in support of the new record, with a full tour expected later in the year. She performed a free show today (May 27) at New York's GM Plaza for CBS, which plans to broadcast portions of the show tomorrow morning on "The Early Show." The artist will participate in a few radio-station festivals over the coming weeks: WIOQ Philadelphia's Q Concert in Camden, N.J. Friday (May 30); WXKS Boston's KISS Concert Saturday (May 31) in Mansfield, Mass.; WHTZ New York's Zootopia festival at East Rutherford, N.J. Sunday (June 1); and WITH Washington, D.C.'s Hot 99.5 Anniversary Show in Columbia, Md. June 7. Jewel is holding a contest to determine two up-and-coming bands to open for her fall tour, and will perform June 19 at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., with a host of regional finalists. For more information on the contest, visit its official Web site. As previously reported, Jewel dips into dance music and jazz on the new album, evidenced by first single "Intuition," which is No. 43 this week on Billboard's Hot 100. "0304" is the follow-up to 2001's "This Way," which debuted at No. 9 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 1.49 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Here are Jewel's tour dates: May 30: Camden, N.J. (Tweeter Center) May 31: Mansfield, Mass. (Tweeter Center) June 1: East Rutherford, N.J. (Giants Stadium) June 7: Columbia, Md. Hello All...Eliot and Lara did a good job with Starfest...let's see what else I can add: First, having seen Jewel numerous times since '96, let me say that the old songs have never sounded better. I don't see how "Foolish Games" (done with piano/vocal only) could possibly get any better. "WWSYS" (extended jam version) has also become a major "moment" for me in the show. The setlist was also excellent--very similar to recent lists, if I'm not mistaken. Other Released Songs played (not sure of order) included: "Hands", "Standing Still" (a crowd mover), "Life Uncommon" (also a great moment), "Intuition", "New Wild West", "LMJLMA", "DYWTP", probably some others, with a "YWMFM" encore. I think the best thing to come from Jewel's "Diva"-ing in recent years is the Diva-esque "Life Uncommon"!!! Preach on, Sister! The New Songs: "Intuition" was, of course, great. "2 Become 1" was truly excellent, a really great song. The third new song (don't think she announced it's name--it has a synthesizer riff in the intro) didn't really click with me until the end. From what I've heard so far, the new album's music doesn't do much for me, but the lyrics and vocals are at least as good as anything she's done. Oddly enough, I'm pretty sure "Stand" was not played. All in all a good setlist...though I would have LOVED a little "Angel Standing By"...is it time to bring this song back yet??? Anybody?? Now just a brief thorn in my rosy review, if I may: To the guy with the "Java Joe's" sign: We all get it. You were there when. We bow to you. We appreciate and respect your seniority, as does Jewel. Now please put your sign back down so I can see!!! The band was, if I'm not mistaken, the same band she toured with last year, including (A) the stage right guitarist with really-expensive-Rickenbaker-and-such-taste in guitars and excellent, excellent ear, (B) the singing-most-of-the-backup-vocals keyboardist, (C) the extremely talented what-do-I-need-a-band-for T-Bone on bass, (D) the my-mouth-is-my-snare-drum talented drummer, and (E) the does-anybody-else-think-this-guy-looks-like-Angel-as-in-Buffy-and-Angel stage left guitarist, with mean licks of his own. She also showed us a guitar that her band got her for her birthday. It was sparkly green. Possibly a Fender Tornado (or something remotely that shape), though I didn't get a great look at it, and I'm by no means sure. A great time! Lara--please do post your pictures when you get them...I can help with scanning if you need! cheers all, ml the "new dad" angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 May 2003 18:27:52 EDT From: SullMa84@aol.com Subject: [EDA] NJC: Kelly Clarkson do any of you have kelly's album?
