Not that theres anything wrong with that though) so it looks like all my responses are going to be like this for the most part. Summing up the interesting stuff I read the last digest, I have to agree 100% with Steve. I was thinking the same thing as you everytime someone called a song that seemed pop a "parody." This is by no means bad music. Just because its pop doesn't mean its bad. It is very well composed, arranged, and produced. The lyrics are meaningful and relevant. That makes all the difference. If all pop was like that, I'd love it. Just because its a different genre than usual does not make it bad or poor compared to what you would expect from Jewel, because the question is if you like the sound of it or not, not how good the song is. Like how it sounds or not, it is undoubtedly a really good song, and yes, I think it does meet Jewel standards and pars with a lot of her songs. I'm not saying its the best song ever, but its certainly a good song from Jewel. Shes just conquering another genre. Shes proving to the world she can be great at whatever she does in music. Kira, your post made my day. Lately all I've been hearing is how the EDAs aren't the same anymore, or we should be asshamed. I know I myself at times have even said it, but hearing someone say something positive about our group for once was great. Thanks! Welcome to the list (even though its a little late for me to say so.) About Jewel on the radio show that was mentioned, I really like the fact that she says it "oh 3 oh 4" because no matter how hard I try, I can't get myself to say "zero 3 zero 4" without concentrating on it! I think the whole "march forth" theory was pretty cool. I think Jewel is finding it pretty funny how fans overanalyze things! I must say I love the new single. It really makes me want to get up and dance. I was just wondering if anyone had lyrics to Intuition. Thanks. |Diana| (the writing angel) ______________________ "The raven himself is hoarse That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan Under my battlements. Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full Of direst cruelty! make thick my blood; Stop up the access and passage to remorse , That no compunctious visitings of nature Shake my fell purpose, nor keep peace between The effect and it! Come to my woman's breasts, And take my milk for gall, you murdering ministers, Wherever in your sightless substances You wait on nature's mischief! They both talk about pop culture and it's negative affects on people. I friend sent me a little clip (42 sec) of Leave The Lights On!!! I don't know where he found it, but it really sounds like Jewel. It is kinda upbeat and her voice is very strange/funny/cool. Kinda girlie, kinda groovy, very interesting. The begining is eletronic, reminds me of a Bjork song. Oh, and it's a love song. That's it!! From parties and such.. Here's the page http://musicfinder.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&id=1800351646&cf=la15&intl=us But let's take a look at Jewel at the Oscar parties over the course of three years.. I think she looks great all three years. 2002 is my favorite, but she does look really mature this year. I think it's the hair. 2001 - http://musicfinder.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&cf=lamuimg&id=1800351646&photoid=1809 59 2002 - http://musicfinder.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&cf=lamuimg&id=1800351646&photoid=2525 55 2003 - http://musicfinder.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&cf=lamuimg&id=1800351646&photoid=4710 22 - -- Scott http://scott.rocket-fish.org/ http://syd.rocket-fish.org/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Apr 2003 23:26:05 -0400 From: "Scott" Subject: [EDA] Re: Leave The Lights On Wow, you guys.. This CD is going to be absolutely AMAZING. This clip is having the same effect on me as Intuition did.. It's like "THIS IS SO WEIRD.. Do I like it??" at first.. And then it gets BETTER every time you hear it.. These songs are going to be so completely different than anything out there, it's going to be a musical atomic bomb.. This is crazy.. The song has an Eminem type beat going on in the beginning but then there's acoustic guitar and brass and a really sexy jazzy vibe.. Ah, it's so HOT. I want to hear it.. This CD... I'm so excited!! - -- Scott http://scott.rocket-fish.org/ http://syd.rocket-fish.org/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 01:16:52 -0300 From: "Dine :o\)" Subject: [EDA] Re: Leave The Lights On I disagree. If you like "old-Jewel" and feel disappointed about Intuition don't listen to "Leave the lights on". But if you're going to listen to it anyway, be prepared. I don't like it. I can imagine any singer singing this song. I don't think it's different from what we listen to everyday at any place. It doesn't sound like Jewel. Although that I don't know what Jewel is anymore. Pop? Yes, I think she's now. It's so artificial, but I still like her. If you are one of the lucky ones going to the Southlake Arts Festival to see our gal, we're having a little get together before the show. 6-7pm if you wanna meet some fellow EDA's, go to the Starbucks on the square. From what I understand it's on main street. If you have any questions give me a holla. Hope to see y'all there! ~Lindsey the Groovy Angel~ ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V8 #168 ***************************
