At Mainstream Top 40 she rose from #48 (I was right the first time!) to #33 this week with a gain of +765. She's up at around 1700 spins (for the week) now... which is excellent! She's still on only around 100 stations (out of about 130)... so I'm really hoping that in the next week or two, the thirty stations that aren't playing it yet will get their act together and start playing the song. See, even though her gains are still good, she was gaining at around +1000 earlier in the week, and it's been going down by around 100 spins every day. Tomorrow she's probably gonna be at around +500. This kind of trend is basically the first signs of a song stalling (ie - not gaining substantially anymore). It's not a huge deal yet, because I'm sure the rest of the stations will start playing it soon. Plus the video will help. BUT, now would be a good time to start calling and requesting the song. It'd be really nice if this song just had a fast and uneventful ride to the top. However, I think Atlantic planned for a few bumps in the road, because they have released it with quite a lot of time before the album comes out. I'll let you know mid-week if there's a serious drop off in gains (which might happen). At Hot AC, she rose from #26 to #19, with a gain of +372, which is also decent (the second highest gainer), but down on last week. She's on about 60 (of 80) Hot AC stations. This song probably won't be as huge on Hot AC as Standing Still was, because it's just much more pop friendly. However, that's not necessarily going to be the case - it just might take longer for the song to become a huge hit. I actually hope it's not as huge, becuase Standing Still was SO big, that stations wanted to play that song more than any of the other singles off This Way. It'd be nice to see at least a 2nd single off the album do well at Hot AC. That's about it. The song is definitely doing *very* well.... but it's not a hit yet, and there is a chance it'll drop off in the mid-20's like many other songs that have had big early starts have done. Let's HOPE that doesn't happen - and you can help by requesting. Steve. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2003 19:31:46 +1000 From: Stephen Hallowes Subject: [EDA] Re: tracklisting Hey I like most of the titles. I find it hard to believe that Jewel could write a song with an English producer called "2 Become 1" and have it not reference (from a pop culture point of view) the spice girls song of the same name... but I guess we'll wait and see. If it's a cheesy love ballad, and just a KNOCKOFF of that spice girls song I'll be extremely annoyed. I also think Fabio was too quick to label most of those songs as love songs. If this album is supposed to be Jewel's "interaction" with pop culture for 2003 and 2004, you'd think love songs wouldn't be so dominant. I mean, how does love have anything to do with pop culture? I can personally think of a lot of other subjects that DO relate to pop culture, that could also relate to those titles.. Sweet Temptation is one of them. Haunted is another. There are a few obvious love songs on there, obviously. But I just hope the topics vary more than in Fabio's predictions! Can this really be jewel our amazing hero??? I hope the tracklist is okay ! Can you see the song title Leave the lights on ?? It is almost nelly furtados song title??? i once remembered that title name, or the song yes U can?? can you kick it fans, yeah you can !! oh my gosh, a new record gives new sounds that is one thing, but poppy song titles is the next thing... bye michiel http://www.jewelkilcher.nl ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2003 11:32:23 -0230 From: "Mark Austin" Subject: [EDA] tracklist Sounds like its going to be an interesting album from what I got from the tracklist. My only problem is the use of "U" instead of "You" and actual numbers instead of the words. It reminds me of Ashanti and Britney Spears! Oh well. Don't judge a book by its cover, eh? Yeah, I used Venus, too, and was pleased with it...if I used a brand new razor cartridge every single shave, and only could use Skintimate Bikini/underarm shaving cream because it was so thick that the razor couldn't cut me...but it did leave my legs smooth after all that...but the intuition is better, I've been using it over a week now, and I'm the kind of girl who shaves EVERY SINGLE DAY, no matter what. Part of it is natural, part of it has been forced by some chiefs in the office! Why would Jewel change from no commercial artist to an artist working with big name producers?? okay some in the past already have been big. What are the objectives from jewel to achieve with this record. Sometimes jewel says i feel uncomfortable with the way i dress in intuition song. On the other hand she license her song to keep touring and to keep funding her clear water and hgh for humanity charity! but if she is compromising then she can sing a duet with some kind of big name?? shakira or enrique iglesias?? what is wrong with working with a big name in music?? just to do a duet, to show the fans she is doing another 4pistake4! I am sick of that word by now believe me! but if this is the new jewel for a number of years, then we have to see if we will keep liking it... i am just as eager to hear her new record as anyone else, only this record is going to be the most bigget impact on every ones ear since ever... bye michiel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2003 17:19:09 +0200 From: "Michiel" Subject: [EDA] =?iso-8859-1?Q?madonna=3F=3F=3F_jewel=B4s_gonna_to_be_the_new_m adonna?= ??? do you think it would be cool if jewel would turn into the new madonna??? feel free to post your opinion ?? would you hope to see jewel be around for 20 years and to become a big hit machine?? bye Michiel http://www.jewelkilcher.nl ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2003 11:27:49 EDT From: GreensboroBoi23@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Re: Tracklist... LOTS of songs are like that......I really have to hear the song before I make any judgement whatsoever.... I also dont understand wht people on here seem to dislike Jewel being "Pop", and "Radio Friendly" LOTS of people like POP Music, myself included. I am a fan of JEWEL, and ALL her music....be it live and raw, or Pop and produced, I think she makes great music, either way.... I keep hearing people talk bad about Britney and J.Lo......but why single them out? There are a lot of pop singers that dont write their own songs, and are more than anything trying to get a hit ...ex. Celine Dion, Cher, etc.....and yet, J.Lo and Britney are the only ones I hear about on here......Personally, I like them all.....Though Jewel is my favorite :-) ~Joe ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2003 11:31:28 EDT From: GreensboroBoi23@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Madonna, Jewel I think Madonna has made great music, and if Jewel is around in 20 years, and has big hits, and GOOD MUSIC, I will still love her just the same ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2003 18:23:37 -0300 From: "Fabio (wnet)" Subject: [EDA] NJC: Nina Simone passes away I thought some of you might wanna know about this. Jewel is a big fan of hers. Jazz Great Nina Simone Dies at 70 By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY NEW YORK - Nina Simone, the jazz great whose rapsy, forceful voice helped define the civil rights movement, died Monday at her home in France, according to her U.S. booking agent. She was 70. Though she remained a top concert draw in her later years, she was quite frail. Eric Hanson, an agent with her U.S. booking agency Ted Kurland Associates, confirmed the death to The Associated Press. At a 2001 concert at Carnegie Hall, she had to be helped to the stage, and was later seen sitting backstage in a wheelchair. Simone spent much of her recent time in France. She was survived by a daughter, Lisa, according to her personal manager, Clifton Henderson. Simone, born Eunice Kathleen Waymon in Tryon, N.C., was a classically trained pianist whose songs ranged from blues to spirtuals to classical fare. But she gained fame in 1959 with her recording of "I Loves You Porgy," from the musical "Porgy & Bess." She later became a voice of the civil rights movement, with her song "Mississippi Goddam," and later, "To Be Young, Gifted and Black." In 1998, she blamed racism in the United States for her decision to live abroad, saying that as a black person she has "paid a heavy price for fighting the establishment." She did not elaborate but said racial inequality in the United States was now "worse than ever." She left the United States in 1973 and lived in the Caribbean and Africa before settling in Europe. Simone, who had a regal presence onstage, enjoyed perhaps her greatest success in the 1960s and 70s, with songs like "I Want A Little Sugar in My Bowl," and "Peaches." She recorded songs from as diverse as Bob Dylan to the Bee Gees and made them her own. Perhaps one of her more popular covers was her version of Dylan's "House of the Rising Sun." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2003 19:57:26 -0300 From: "Fabio (wnet)" Subject: [EDA] great website This website is great, have a look. http://www.rockonthenet.com/artists-j/jewel_main.htm Fabio ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2003 18:54:31 EDT From: Makyle@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Southlake Concert on Sat Does anyone know if Jewel is performing solo or with the band this Sat. night at the benefit concert???
