Yeah, I stated that a few days ago. As soon as I heard the accordian, I said it sounded like "Objection"....I'm a huge Shakira fan so I don't mind at all. I think she might get a little more radio play with this sound than she did with the last album. The last album was a little too country for heavy rotation on pop stations and not country enough for heavy rotation on country stations. This one will definitely fall under pop music. Where'd you get it, did you pay to download it? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Apr 2003 02:41:14 +1000 From: Stephen Hallowes Subject: [EDA] Here we go (radio update)...! As per the whole Rick Dees "world premiere" thing, radio stations weren't playing the song at all until Tuesday April 1st. On April 1st it started getting airplay. So far radio stations in New York (including the incredibly influential Z100), Toronto, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, Portland, and a bunch of smaller towns in Canada have begun playing the song. That's only the first day and I'm sure there'll be more to come this week. This is all pre-impact.. the song doesn't officially "impact" until April 8th... so basically any airplay it gets between now and then is extra. The majority of stations will add the song on April 8th. I'll keep you posted. But it seems like KIIS in LA and Z100 in NYC are on board for sure. I'd say those are two of the most influential and important radio stations in the US. If you have read any of the updates from Jewel's people you will know that Jewel worked with Lester Mendez on this album. He is the co-producer (with Shakira) of Laundry Service,co- arranged the songs(again with Shakira) and played keyboards on the album. So it only makes sense that some of his influence has rubbed off ...not to mention maybe Jewel wanted a Shakira-like sound for this particular song. Hey-- If Rob Zombie can do "Brick House" with Lionel Ritchie---Jewel can certainly afford to sound a little pop or sound Shakira or Madonna like. Let us not forget Madonna wrote the book on changing sound and image as a recipe for success. I think it's okay for Jewel to take a page from the book. I LOVE THAT SONG...if I"m thinking of the same song. I have an old recording of Jewel singing that song on Acoustic Cafe or World Cafe or something like that. Jewel has done something new with the lyrical level of dance music. I don't listen to that genre real often, but what i've heard is not nearly as interesting as intuition. On the other hand, though, i've always thought that the thing jewel does best lyrically is simple, extremely heartfelt messages. I think that's the reason why she sounds best w/ just an acoustic guitar; i find that to be the best medium for her type of lyrics. Yes, she often does the whole cynical thing, and the i'm-being-poetic imagery thing, but to me it still ends up sounding simple and extremely heartfelt. She could have done the lyric/dance music contrast better if she'd had less simple lyrics, but that is jewel's one constant (and a reason why i've always found the bob dylan comparisons silly). As far as musically, i wish it had been a little more adventurous. I think that the direction that music will be going in the future is electronic and perhaps hip hop, simply because those are the genres that are seeing the most change and innovation recently. However, this particular single doesn't strike me as real innovative. Perhaps that's because, within the electronic genre, i listen to crazy random avant garde stuff like Boards of Canada rather than dance music. I am excited to hear the other tracks, because i would be very surprised if they all sounded like intuition. I think it will be like This Way, which had a country feel throughout, yet with every song sounding very different, (hey, maybe she'll start dating some club guy, a dj, or a rapper! eminim's single isn't he?) Also, her released songs are always the most radio friendly ones on the disc (besides WWSYS, one of her most popular, go figure), so maybe we'll get some more musically innovative stuff w/ other tracks. I am really excited for her video, because i do think that jewel has a very cynical side that gets overlooked by anyone who hasn't followed her closely. It sounds hilarious and should break some of the simple songwriter w/ a heart of gold cliches about her. On a total other (extremely old) topic, someone once posted asking who designed Jewel's oscar dress. Does anyone know? I thought it was beautiful, i loved the waist, and the color was very flattering. And by hollywood standards it wasn't that revealing. Reflect on some past awards show pics, or look at any Xtina aguilera (god that's hilarious) or l'il kim pictures for some real extremes. And i really was not a fan of her shirt in the American Idol audience. Yich. She did look pretty though. Finally, thanks everyone for toning down the fighting. Honestly, when the list gets like this, i'd rather go read some of the penis enlargement offers i get daily. I am alreay for a number of years fan, but the many expressions with good and bad reviews really suprised me a lot! I always know artists are controversial, but with Jewel we never would expect that to happen. I know Jewel4s art is always inspirational. The new song has a lot of cool new elements which Jewel never used before. But there for i do appreciate Jewel , because she is stuck to her talents and that is great ! She is trying new styles, and i think she can pull it of! A lot of artists in the industry are respected like Alanis Morissette, Pink, and Shakira. Each female artist has her own thoughts, and Jewel wished to do something different. But a new record will be full of suprises, suprises that make your ear filled with joy with passion and the fruit of the new sound is the same as the fruit they use in wine. Jewel is unique, and the way she produces her record always appeal to me. I am surprised of course by the new sound, but i do love it, because it has rythm and a lot of cool instruments. Jewel4s voice has been beautiful and this new record will be always be excellent to see live. I look so much forward to the first premiers on TV when Jewel sing the song by herself. It will be a blast, and i am sure that Jewel enjoys her new songs She put a lof of hard work in it, and she will be remembered for her many faces that she showed with her music. She now is making cool dance music, so go enjoy the new music or listen to other artists like dar williams, paula cole etc. take care, Michiel http://www.jewelkilcher.nl ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Apr 2003 23:35:53 +0200 From: "Michiel" Subject: [EDA] is this true hello Jewelfans, People with the intuition player said that there will be a original limited edition cd with a bonus dvd with never before seen footages!!!!! is that true???? bye Michiel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Apr 2003 14:01:28 -0800 From: "Elizabeth Nguyen" Subject: [EDA] Jewel radio interviews I love the chemistry between Ryan Seacrest and Jewel. It's so cute! Jewel seems so comfortable everytime she comes to star 98.7. Lisa Fox was trying to get Jewel with Ryan ...hehe, he's 28 I think, not 30 yet, she's 28. *Perfect* ;-) She was so giddy and was really excited about the video. It sounds hilarious! They made fun of Jewel's language. She's into saying "sick" and "ill." Haha. She also said Lester Mendez is "sick talented." LOL. Ryan kept saying she's going hip-hop. She said that she's thinking of naming the album '03-04.' She said that on the Rick Dees interview as well, so I think she's stuck on that title. Ryan asked about Ty. He asked her about her bitchiness scale. "I'm queen of facetious. sometimes in the morning I'm tired or not in a good mood I get facetious and dry, but smart people like you find it funny, either that, or they hate me for a long time" heh ... cuz Ryan's memo said "she was in good spirits" Ryan: How are ya? are you alright? Lisa: 5 years you guys were together Jewel: Yeah, 5 years .. it was such a long time Ryan: well, I thought you were gonna get married Jewel: I know ... I .. we just didn't end up getting married, obviously Ryan: HOw recent is this break-up? Jewel: Pretty recent. Like a month or so ago. It's so weird to be single Ryan: was it mutual? Jewel: we're really good friends still. We talk on the phone, email everyday Ryan: who was the person to say, this isn't gonna work ..? Jewew: oh, it was pretty mutual .. like I'm gonna tell YOU Ryan? Ryan: well no one's listening ... Lisa: yeah, that's personal! Jewel: it was all for you Ryan .. this record is dedicated to you Lisa: Well, ryan is available in case you need someone .. to rebound. In case you need a hot weekend to get your frustrations out. ryan: hey, I'm not that easily available Lisa: you've been on the market for 3 years now. Ryan: Haven't I been going out with the same women for the last couple of weeks? See, Jewel, your timing may be off. Then Jewel talks about Ryan's botox controversy. Hehe. Lisa: and Ryan cooks ... he likes to go see movies Ryan: I think you need to be single for a while though. I think you need to see 30 single Lisa: what else do you think Jewel needs ryan? She said, "you guys! the video's hilarious ::jewel giggles:: You guys are gonna laugh. This whole song is about how we don't know how to behavae like normal human beings anymore. we dont' even know how to react ... be sincere anymore ... listen to your "inner voice" it's sad. the song is sort of about that. we're always looking for answers in magazines." she says some lyrics. it takes the piss on pop culture kind of a lot. so the video takes the piss as well." Lisa thought Jewel was swearing again. eheh. "the video starts out with me being normal Jewel. Then you see me drinking a soda and my shirt blows open and it becomes like a cola commerical. it gets more and more over the top until like, I get sprayed down in a t- shirt .." - pause ... HAH .. Jewel in a wet t-shirt! That'll the male attention! .."and like firemen and then, there's dancing. There's dancing in the video! did you guys ever think you'd see the day I dance in a music video? it is happening!" sorry if it's all a run on sentence ... I'm just trying to transcribe the best I can. Umm, I recorded both the kiis fm interview as well as the star one. I don't have enough webspace, so if someone can host, I will be glad to share. Both interviews combined are like 59 MB. No commercials. Good quality. Elizabeth P.S. Don't you think it's weird that Ryan is a host of American Idol and both shows were supposed to be live? Personally, I've always wanted Jewel to release a rockier album, ever since the first time I heard her play Down in concert. Any of the songs with electric guitar, and those Janis Joplinesque screams. How bout a CD with Down, Rocker Girl, Race Car Driver...etc...and of course God's Gift to Women :) I love that side of her! Anyone else feel the same way? Pumped it up as world premiere...the DJ's sound really into it...positive feedback coming from them. The interesting thing they said at the end was...
