She could be relevant and thought provoking without being depressing; it is possible! An album that would serve merely to make us forget our troubles would simply not be necessary right now, since that is what every single other pop artist is doing. She doesn't need to have songs saying things like "People are dying! The blood is on the streets!" But lyrics generally express what the artist is thinking about and experiencing, and Jewel must have more on her mind than her wonderful love of Ty (or lack thereof). If she doesn't even touch on the world's current situation, she will be failing to represent something that i am sure is on her mind quite a bit, being the wonderfully social aware gal we know her to be. She's never had a record devoid of any social commentary in the past; this would be a horrible time to start. If she does, than i will be forced to assume it is so that she could sell more records and get on MTV, which is no great artist's primary goal. Of course, this is all my humble opinion. Hello Jewelfans, In Holland the new single will be released on the 9th of may. The Warner music told me they are planning to promote it , and they are looking into possibilities for the new single to get the airplay good!! So in Holland we have the release of the single just one month later than in America...and they are going to do some promotional activities! And the cd is tentitive to be released in June the 3rd, as in America. But they don't have that answer already for me available... They say to me, call back later in May, to get more details. I asked if they knew the bside of the record, but that was not known. She said it will be totally different, they said Jewel is now with her time flying in music terms. They like it at Warner Music Netherlands, but they don't let me listen to the song. Though Jewel is known for that, I don't think I would expect it in this new album. The reason I say this is because she is currently in studio finishing it right? That means that these are all songs she has finished and felt comfortable with for a while now. I highly doubt that just because we broke out into war Jewel is going to stop the presses and write some "no war" songs just for this CD. Or "go war" if that is what you are looking for. Anyway, my point is that while her CD will be released shortly after this conflict started I highly doubt the material will be focused on it due to the timing. Havn't you been reading them? She keeps saying how shes making great music you can dance to and stuff, but she also says how at the same time shes trying to keep it very lyric driven. No worries. Jewelblues, I may be wrong, but it sounded like you were bashing Jewel, accusing her of being a hypocrite or something. Shes not pretending to be a genie in a bottle or a "slave 4 u", shes just doing upbeat tunes along with her lyrics. Peace! I remember reading an article, "Jewel gets freaky." They said the names of other people in the lyrics. Maybe she just says J. Thats a shame, but its still obvious to me. Also, It does sound like catchy lyrics! You can tell what part is the chorus. I'm making up a tune for it in my head lol. Peace!
