March 10, 2003 [Mike Connell Subject: [EDA] Jewel Perfored on Friday... WOW.... its finally sinking in... Thanks to Larry for telling me whats up with the Poltz show at the Hotel Cafe (i knew about them, but forgot about the dates)... Which i gladly drove the 360 miles to go see...(and friends in the area). We were all treated to the surprise visit from our very own Jewel.... She sang for about an hour. By her self and with Steve. I was blessed by being in the front row, and recording the concert on video. I asked for Carnivore... she asked do i really like that song, i said yes... she said i have issues.... :) But after she sang that, the crowd went wild. As always Jewel was perfect, her mannerisms, her voice, her emotions... wow! They finished with a 15 min long version of Love is a Rose. Which was Amazing!! Extra verses by her and Steve giving each other topics to sing about... Steve was pretty good, Jewel did go alright, she was great with her last part which was the drug bust story she made a flow, and Doug Pettibone was rocking out too...... Steve continued to play, and Jewel sat down... i went up and talked to her for a bit... Come Back to Santa Cruz Jewel!! She was in a great mood (of course..everybody is when they come to see Steve) was really nice and down to earth. even got a photo of me and her... Its funny i have emailed it to a few friends and they are like whos that? did you have a date with her? then i tell them its Jewel.... and they are like wow... It was like a 1 in a Billion chance that i was able to meet her. [so Jewel, see you were meant for me... ;) ] I almost was unable to take Friday off... had car problems and stuff to take care of, rent a car, meet up with a friend in LA, got lost and was late to the Hotel Cafe, and going to the concert not knowing she was going to be there... I was almost in Taiwan with some friends...also a local musician i know was playing in town so i was planning on checking that out.. Well i am tired just got home like 2 hours ago.. it was a long drive up alone. I will work on a CD to share with some people to make Angel Food, and share that with others... Umm how does that all work out? like i send to 5 people and they share with 5 more, etc etc? talk to me. Night from Santa Cruz.... Kevin... PS. D'oh... almost forgot. Steve was ROCKIN' he was really amazing, some funny great new songs... it was such an awesome night... Thanks Steve..Jewel, Doug, Larry, Sandy, Scott... and eveybody else that was there.... I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! also, there are certain notes that when she hits them i cant breath... does this happen to anyone else... especially in carnivor. alisa ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2003 03:09:50 -0800 From: "Jewel Worshiper" Subject: [EDA] NWW tour hey.. do i recall someone saying that she did nicotine love in a couple shows of the NWW tour? or was that just me hoping? i have quite a few NWW shows and i haven't heard that song once. :( - --Jewel Worshiper-- http://www.angelfire.com/sk/killorgeteven/pale_shade_of_grey.html (my Jewel Page) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jewel is GOD WWJD --- What Would Jewel Do "if you talk, you get shot randomly" ~Jewel _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? In my mind, it's all about the emotion that I seem to hear in songs people wrote for themselves; it just seems to be lacking somehow when they cover someone else's material. Rob, I agree with you. One example I have is Tori Amos' "Strange Little Girls" which was cover songs. Though she put a beautiful spin on them there was some emotion lacking. You could tell they weren't her songs. Her most recent CD "Scarlet's Walk" has all that emotion back in it. You can tell she went through a person journey in writing these songs. Cover songs can be good, but in my opinion there is nothing better than the emotion you get from having gone through the writing process yourself. I think that on the whole we are so much not against Britney herself but against what she represents (i.e. record companies). It will be interesting how the future works out for her. I like Norah because she seems to be genuine about her aspirations. She always wanted to be just a musician. Fame and money, although nice, are secondary to her as long as she can perform for people. By the way Lewis, Norah is a music goddess. :). I mean, she's definitely a commercial puppet in my opinion, but I think the thing that everyone should try to be is more tolerant in general. That would keep a lot of the crap off of this list and less stress for everyone involved. Either way, just wanted throw my two cents in... I can preorder Jewels new cd at amazon but I won't benefit from preordering if the cd is released in Europe within a few weeks (the shipping time is 2 or 3 weeks) after the cd is released in the states. Anyone who can advise me on this? - - Floris _________________________________________________________________ Chatten met je online vrienden via MSN Messenger. http://messenger.msn.nl/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2003 15:36:31 EST From: Dave0828@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Preordering and release date Just go to the store on the date of release. Amazon almost never ships the preorders in time to reach you sooner that 2 - 3 days after release. Then you're left looking at it on the shelf for a couple of days at your local music store wondering if you really want to pay twice - but chomping at the bit to hear it. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2003 17:18:30 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: [EDA] FWD: JeweLink NewsFlash!
