A joke is usually something not to be taken seriously... and I think we're all taking this "potential album title" way too seriously. The fact we can almost guarantee it won't be called that... because if Jewel were seriously considering it, she wouldn't have referred to it as her "joke title" for the album. Secondly... this whole swearing thing is totally ridiculous. Censorship in America is WAY overblown. I just moved back to Australia and after like 9pm commercial television stations (ie - australia's versions of NBC, CBS, ABC) air shows/movies with swearing, nudity and other "adult content" and frankly I dont' see what the big deal is. Here they show stuff like sex and the city and the osbournes COMPLETELY uncencored... and I mean literally completely uncensored. Ozzy and all his fuck-filled swearing rants are not bleeped in any way on COMMERCIAL TELEVISION in this country. And it's so refreshing. The less of a deal one makes about things like swearing, the less of a deal they become. Swearing is only an issue when you MAKE it an issue. Jewel should be allowed to curse as much as she wants in her songs without worrying about what the closed-minded mid-western conservative "family chains" are going to think. Steve. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Mar 2003 17:52:49 +1100 From: Stephen Hallowes Subject: [EDA] one more thing Oh... and to add to my last post. Atlantic are going to have to seriously reconsider how they market Jewel and what her image is going to be on this next album. They went a littler darker in the image for This Way... which was good... but they're gonna have to get WAY darker... because if she's doing a funky, euro-style dance record that she considers out there enough to label "artsy", even as a joke.... the whole folk-pop princess thing is NOT going to work anymore. I mean apart from the Serve the Ego remixes and the Life Uncommon charity single, Atlantic haven't released a non-lovesong single since Down So Long. Those in the public who didn't buy This Way got Standing Still, Break Me and This Way... all of which are closest in style to the POY era singles (ie - YWMFM) and none of which really represent the artistic changes Jewel has gone through SINCE POY. I really hope they absolutely flip Jewel's image on it's ass and hit everyone with something TOTALLY out there in terms of a video and a "look"... and just get people interested again. I'm not saying be contrived and go all britney with the the crazy MTV video music award performances or whatever. I mean she should stay true to herself... but just do something interesting in terms of image. They are NORAH JONES and SOPHIE ELLIS BEXTOR... Again again ATLANTIC records dissapoints me, and i find it sad that JEWEL4s management doesn4t ENCOURAGE Live dvd4s for her fans!!!! To release one show is that too much asked for! How much dedication and loyalness that i have for Jewel and respect for her jewel team, i really underestimate their qualities and feelings that they show for her fans!! How can such a big star like Jewel is and will always be, not can release a live dvd of a great concert during her 10 year carreer so far????????? She is for heavensake Jewel, the most beautiful and honest artist on this world. If Jewel can4t make this release on a market, what will then be the result of her new record??? Would that be a success if people don4t appreciate or are enthusiastisc to release a live dvd!! i am a fan, a passionated fan , a fan that always enjoy jewel4s lyrics and music and i am the opinion that only jewel4s phenomenal songs come to light at a concert. The atmosphere, her voice her sweet expressions can be what the fans would love to see. I am not being redudant here, i am just expressing a lack of ambition that the jewel team has, and also the lack of ambition that ron shapiro with atlantic records show towards their most prestigious stone and gem Jewel. If they can4t help Jewel , then i would be more than happy to apply for her job to personally coach her on the market. I am a big strategic expert, and i want to see Jewel become more famous and known in the world and with her carreer a live dvd or something other exceptional such as live concert cd would be the bomb! Jewel released so many nice records that she owes her fans and herself the exclusive gift of a wonderful live dvd or any other project! For the last time Atlantic records representives and Jewel4s management team....become not a familily portrait!! and enjoy the music for the fans.. Jewel is a star, that should always shine as the sun :) Our Jewel is unique and i can4t handle the situation any longer ! So please listen to my message !! The world is in your hands, the whole wide world with fans of Jewel...is awaiting a big move from Jewel or Atlantic Record! I was sure they would release a This Way Tour live DVD, but apparently they didn't... I'm quite sure we'll see a DVD when the album after this new one is released. I believe that that album will be a collection of Jewel's accoustic concerts, so we can definitly see a DVD. But, I wouldn't expect a DVD to come out this year, unfortunately... Fabio ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Mar 2003 18:38:44 +0100 From: "Michiel - van - Gorkum" Subject: [EDA] =?iso-8859-1?Q?Are_they_having_fears_=3F=3F=3F_Jewel=B4s_manage ment?= hello Jewelfans, I think i can give a number of qualifications for the jewel management. How nice Alan Bershaw is interacting between the fans, just one person can4t make the difference. We are more talking in the good direction if the jewel team and representives at atlantic records listen to the voices and thoughts of the fans on this forum. They can talk with them, ask for their opinions and altough some nice online activities have become reality such as the vh1 storytellers show, the austin city limits show, the show in texas before jewel released this way, i still feel that they lack a lot of confidence. Their eye for chances in a market and how to present jewel in the nowadays music industry makes me angry. I can4t accept, and will not understand why the fans who are always supporting jewel don4t get the coolest suprise they deserve! A live recording dvd with a great show with hylarious comments told by jewel would be great. An interpretation by Jewel to her own concerts. How she invited fans on stage that helped her to remember the songs, the atmosphere at the concerts being discussed by jewel in a review to the concert. I think a lot of fans would be grateful and happy if the jewel team can for heavensake for one time change their attitude. I think if they are influencing the atlantic records bobo4s in their ivor towers, than i am sure that jewel would get more recognition! I feel a screaming fan in a desert. They really should listen more to fans, they can ask them for their needs. I think a fanbase is important, and of course this fanlist is there for fans but are there any new jewel merch recently being put on the market ?? On all this answers i have to say just no. Since the This Way tour there is just nothing they add to our information. No cool things that keep the fans happy. Fans who have to wait a long time for new input lose their passion and interest. To keep the fanbase solid and rocking and happy then they should bring new elements on the jewel scence. Live dvd4s , cool photobooks with Jewel, interviews and all other great items are the wish of every fan. You support a star with music that you enjoy, the number of cd4s that you collect, the photos that you enjoy ,the shows that you can attend... Come on Jewel team and atlantic records, become more interactive and listen to the voice of the fans from the first hour. They are rare, and they are always saying truly the truth in this opinion! I think sometimes i am the only person who shouts this out, but that is because i am honest and passionated and i will support jewel forever!! So fans , let4s start to rock and roll and i hope the jewel team and atlantic record will listen to your voice and let us participate in their plans! we are jewel4s fans, so we are always wanting to help her carreer flourish!!! bye michiel the dutch jewelfan Fabio ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Mar 2003 12:57:18 EST From: Dave0828@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Are you kidding me with this???? In a message dated 3/3/03 12:41:10 PM Eastern Standard Time, michiel_van_gorkum@planet.nl writes: > No cool things that keep the fans > happy I'm not sure what you mean by this. There is news that she is producing a movie - a new poetry book - a new album going in different directions from before - another album to follow soon after that takes her "back to her roots" - a summer tour - a book about her compiled with things taken from all of those closest to her. Jewel went straight from the completion of her last tour, took a four day Thanksgiving holiday, then she was right back in the studio working on the next album throughout the rest of the holidays. So, I'm quite sure that you'll have to forgive us all for not standing with a united voice and screaming at Atlantic for this cruel injustice that there is not a DVD to satisfy your need for instant gratification. There is not enough to keep the fans happy? I don't know of another singular artist with this much planned for the near future. Besides, she's trying to complete her contract obligations. Maybe there is something that states that this sort of thing cannot be released until the albums are done. Maybe Jewel doesn't want it released and she wants to release it herself after terminating the current contract. Maybe they weren't happy enough with the video footage shot at the concerts from this past tour. There are FAR too many factors that go into this sort of decision. These things don't just happen. But, to sit here and continue to complain when there is a tour, a movie, two books and two cds to look forward to is just ridiculous. This is not even to mention the charitable causes that she works on when she's not writing, touring, recording or working on the production of her newest film. There is hardly a harder working person in the business. To continue to complain that JewelTeam doesn't care enough about the fans because there is no new DVD on the shelves for you to buy is just about asinine. Give me a list of artists who give back as much to their fans as Jewel does while working as hard as she does. Give me a break with this. The continuing dissatisfaction expressed makes you sound downright ungrateful!!!! But - that's just my opinion - I may be wrong. Of course there might be a lot of factors that influence a decision for making a live dvd. But i am not saying that i don4t admire jewel for her great works Pieces Of You Spirit This Way her two books A night without armor and Chasing down the dawn and her movie Ride with the devil and her thousand one performances on american and european tv. I also rate Jewel as very hard working for her living and that she pleases her fans always in a concert. I am grateful , i just think in the communication with her fans she is improving lately with telling us her updates and stories that coincide with the work on the new record. No way I would ever not support Jewel, but can4t i be a fan and having some points of critisicsm. To say something negative doesn4t have to have the meaning that the positive elements can4t be the biggest part. I just say that Jewel has done so many cool concert tours that i have seen in my life, this way, spirit and the new wild west tour, i just think her fans could relive the memory of a live show. I always enjoy trading live recordings, and i am grateful that we fans can do such trades. I am not blaming Jewel, i am just expression some points of consideration. Which fans can4t say that they are not passionate and happy. I like Jewel a lot, i think she will be my idol forever. I support her, i enjoy her music, i love her acting skills, her lyrics i greatly adore. There is nothing i can4t say i don4t like , jewel is and will be my one and only superstar in the music, so therefor i keep supporting her carreer bye Michiel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Mar 2003 14:37:18 -0500 From: BeetleBugAngelVW@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Atlantic records are cruel In a message dated 3/3/2003 2:21:20 PM Eastern Standard Time, michiel_van_gorkum@planet.nl writes: > I am not being redudant here, i am just expressing a lack of ambition that> the jewel team has, and also the lack of ambition that ron shapiro with> atlantic records show towards their most prestigious stone > and gem Jewel. But you are being redundant; we get this post from you at least once weekly...and furthermore, as much as we all love Jewel, we are in the MINORITY...why would a record company spend money on an artist that in record sales and radio airtime so small in comparision w/other artists they have? Let's face it, not since WWSYS, YWMFM, and FG has Jewel really been "popular," not to the extent she was then...She's taken a different approach, and the music scene has taken an altogether new direction since then. That was, what, 7 years ago or something? Wow...you don't catch people singing Jewel's songs under their breath anymore like you did back then. I remember being at summer camp that summer that WWSYS came out, and for the talent show that session I'd say at least 75% of the girls sang or played Jewel songs from POY. You ask people who Jewel is now, they don't know until you go all the way back to that album...some will recognize SS, but really that got no airtime compared to the singles off of POY. Yes, we'd all like to see a live DVD...yes, we all love Jewel...but the difference between you and us is that most of us have ahold on reality, and realize that Jewel will never be as promoted or marketed as Britney, Avril, Norah, etc, unless this album is poppy-mainstream crap, which it probably isn't. So suck it up and move on or find a more popular artist to be a fan to. You seem a wee bit obsessed, and it's unhealthy. Instead of spending your days daydreaming about a live DVD, go do something...anything...sorry to sound harsh, but I think it's needed at this point.Gina East Angel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V8 #69 **************************
