A few days ago i posted that my daughter, Ciara, was performing in a local play, "Annie."......she was Annie. I mentioned an "interview" for the newspaper and how Ciara mostly talked about Jewel. That interview made front page headlines/with photos! I want to share with the EDA's two quotes regarding Jewel. "Last summer, after catching two appearances by singer Jewel, whom Ciara idolizes,"...(then the story goes on to talk about ciara) next quote: "Inspired by Jewel, Ciara has started writing poetry. She also plays the piano and an accoustic guitar. "I put star stickers on my guitar, like the stars Jewel has on her guitar," she said, beaming." Ciara is sooooo proud to have Jewel mentioned in her newspaper article. When other cast members of this play read the article and asked Ciara about Jewel, it was very exciting for Ciara. She just loves to talk about Jewel! She is completely inspired by Jewel and if it were not for her own discovery of Jewel,....i do not think Ciara and the rest of the family would be having so much creative fun today! Ciara has supported Jewel in many ways and to many many people. Ciara has a little talent with her voice and loves to sing. I am often asked, "where did she learn to sing that way?" I tell them that she is inspired by the singer Jewel, she loves her voice. Ciara often follows up with, "um, mom, Jewel singer and guitar player and actor and poem writer!" I cannot count on two hands how many mom's have gone out and bought Jewel's cd's for their own daughters. Most of these parents had no clue who Jewel is. I always stress to these parents that some of the subject content/words may not be appropriate for young children, in her songs....i tell them that it's Jewel's singing voice that inspires her so much. We would like to send a copy of the entire article to Jewel (not email). Is there an address or po box for Jewel?? I cannot think of any reason why it would be inappropriate to send such an article to Jewel....however, if there are any reasons why i shouldn't, please tell me. Michelle Branch + Savior of rock and roll = no. Michelle Branch is really a great artist and stuff, but NOT the savior of Rock and Roll... I mean, come on! Regarding Norah Jones, she won 5 grammies. (She dropped one when she was holding them all backstage!!!) She seemed so nervous, it was cute!Someone else here posted what categories she won, but they posted 6, when she only won 5 grammies, which I think was all she was nominated for. It was Best New Artist, Record(song) of the Year, Album of the Year, one was for song writing, although she didnt write it, a guy named Jesse Harris did. And she won a grammy for female pop vocal, I think thats what one it was. I really think that Norah Jones would be phenominal, an amazing artist, but the fact that she doesn't write many of the songs (She didn't write "Don't Know Why") kind of ruins it for me. I think its important for an artists credibility to be able to write their own songs, not just sing others work. It has to come from the heart, and I think its a major part of being an artist. I really hope she writes more of her own songs in the future. Her performance at the grammys, however, what phenominal. Thats my little-more-than-2 cents!
