I just saw Jewel last night and man she kicked some massive arse. I was thoroughly thrilled to be able to hear "Carnivore" live (thank God she heard me yell it out!). Just a heads up that once again Jewel shined on stage. The Meghan girl from Star Search opened for her.. and although she had a nice voice for a 13 year old I wouldn't say at all that she sounded like Jewel. And in addition she started talking to us in between her songs and she was really very irritating. However, there's no question that there's potential there. My hope is that she finds a voice and style of her own and I'm sure she'll be extraordinary when she grows up and doesn't talk like a valley girl. - -J "We are everyday angels, be careful with me cuz I'd like to stay that way" ~"Sensitive" Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jan 2003 01:19:38 EST From: WiddleyPud@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Minneapolis concert review Hey Angels! I went to the Jewel show in Minneapolis last night and it was blast. This was the forth time i've seen Jewel live and the 2nd time i've seen her solo. I think this show was better than the Des Moines that I attended, by far. A male and female from some morning show in Minneapolis opened the show. They didn't sound very professional, but I suppose they could have been nervous. It took the lady about 10 different tries to pronounce Lenedra Carroll. Anyway, so you can assume her Nedra came out next. She talked about Clearwater Project for awhile and then announced Jewel's opening act, Meagan from Star Search. She had a good voice, but it was the standard Star Search professional karaoke. So it wasn't too entertaining, but it wasn't too boring either. She sang her 3 or 4 songs and then they set up the stage for Jewel. She came on and opened with Does Anyone Believe in Love Anymore. Later on in the show she asked what we wanted to hear, I shouted "Carnivore" very loud. Jewel said "I heard someone say Carnivore, I don't know if I remember it, but i'll try". She began to play it on the guitar and then said "Where did you get that song from?" and I replied "bootlegs". Then she said "mmmhmm, mmmhmm" and continued on with the most beautiful version of Carnivore i've ever heard. During her first encore, she brought her mom on stage. She came on and made a comment about Jewel telling the same stories over and over and how she has made it a craft. Then she said it's interested to see how they have changed over the years and Jewel said "all the lies i've told". She then introduced the song she was going to sing by saying "Jewel had a lack of imagination" because that's the only song she ever wanted her to sing. She did her best with the song even though she said she was getting over laryngitis. Jewel closed with Angel Standing By and that was the end of the show. Beautiful none the less!!!! Sorry this got so lengthy, but I hope you enjoyed reading it!! If you don't know what I'm talking about... here's a quick summary: - - Send me a list of your favorite albums this year. - - You can list any number of albums... you can list 1 or 100... but - - only the first 20 (or less if there aren't 20) will count. - - It is REALLY IMPORTANT that you put them in the order of preference since it makes a big difference if an album is listed as #1 or as #20. - - Every album must have a release date either in 2001 or 2002. - - send your charts to romeantic@email.si That's it! Cast your votes and make a difference... put your fave album among the best of the year... the margins at the top are small... since NOT ONE album has been declared best by two different people so far... And that's the beauty of it... this isn't my call it's the EDA Album Of The Year... so you should be a part of it. - -- Have fun and stay beautiful Dr. RomeAntic, an angel with the worst stroke of luck and a flash of revelation "If being sane is thinking there's something wrong with being different... I'd rather be completely fucking mental." First off I must say that the venue was extremely disappointing. The way they had their ticket purchase set up was frustrating. You didn't get to know what seats you had until they were mailed to you. If I had control over it I wouldn't have chosen the seats I had. I was in the 11th row, which normally would be wonderful. However this venue was so WIDE and we were on the very edge of the outside aisle. We would have been closer if we were in like the 35th row than we were in our 11th row seats. And my neck hurt from turning so far to the side the whole night. So, I was really not happy with my seats. I could hardly make out her face. Okay, moving on. The opener was alright. I found her irritating. But you have to give her credit because she is only 13. It was basically her singing along to her favorite songs. And it wasn't even artistic because she was just doing exact copies of how the original artists do them. She didn't even put her own spin on them. But, she did have a beautiful voice. And if there is anything that the "popular" music industry has proven, it's that you don't have to write your own songs to be famous. So, she has great potential. Really beautiful voice. Terrible stage presence, but that will come with time. On to Jewel. The crowd was really dull. Some of the lucky people in the front of the middle section were cheering. Otherwise it was just polite clapping. Later on in the show the crowd started to get more into it. But I noticed a couple of times that Jewel seemed disappointed with the crowd as well. When she started songs only a few people clapped. One time when she was starting a song (can't remember which one) only a few people cheered, she said "what, 4 of you know it?" It was funny. She started the show with Does Anyone Believe in Love Anymore. It was beautiful. She was crying by the end of it, very touching. Before she started there were all sorts of people who were late coming in. She asked them if their tickets didn't say what time the show started! Then she filled the time until they came in with singing a little tune about them being late. That was funny. Carnivore was BEAUTIFUL!!! I have never heard such a good version of it. Breathtaking. Jewel was very talkative! She "played" for almost two hours. But I would say at least 30 minutes of it was spent talking. She spent at least 20 minutes telling the You Were Meant For Me story about her and Steve going down to Mexico and being on the drug bust. It was very amusing. She also did Race Car Driver. I had never heard that live before (or if I had I don't remember) so it was a treat. She told the story about that song too, about how she ran out of gas along the freeway. That was funny. She also sang Cold Song. She said that a reporter once asked her what one song she would want to be remembered for. She said that it was Cold Song, it was hilarious. I can't remember much more about the show. Hopefully her site will have the set-list up sometime soon. Did anyone there record the show? If so I'd love a copy, if and when it is ready. Jewel is so great in concert because she sounds exactly like she does on her CD's. It's great to see artists that are real, if you know what I mean. Anyway, she did wonderful and I wish that the show hadn't ended. It was beautiful. Thanks for reading this. I'd love to hear comments from anyone else who was there too!! Just thought it was interesting :-) Hugs!! Tammy :-) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jan 2003 13:33:29 -0500 (EST) From: "" Subject: [EDA] Mnpls Review/setlist Another incredible show!
