(hehe - better late than never) I've been extremely busy lately, but was fortunate to catch a movie earlier this week - Standing in the Shadows of Motown. It's a joyous celebration of music and musicians - and no matter what genres of music you like, I'm sure you'll love this movie. At the screening I attended the audience applauded after the songs (and wow - you should catch the knockout vocal performances by folks like Joan Osborne and Chaka Kahn) and couples were, literally, dancing in the aisles. It's a beautiful experience! If it's playing in your town or city - don't miss it!!! peace and cheers, Adrian ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Jan 2003 00:56:20 -0330 From: "Mark Austin" Subject: [EDA] The New Direction & More To the person who said she should go back to do an acoustic album and find herself again, that is exactly what she is doing by making this new ablum. Dont worry though, I heard an acoustic one is supposed to come out pretty soon after this one. I could be wrong but enjoy the variety! Jewel wouldnt make and release bad music, you know that. You may feel worried now, but every album is a wonderful surprise. Just wait and see. Its not gonna be corny crap, and Im sure the lyrics will be meaningful as well. Just cause its feel good doesnt mean it wont be beautiful. Ah, have I ranted about this part for too long? Sorry~! lol Jewel is confident in it, so don't worry. Along with Violet Eyes etc, another amazing song which I love to death that is never ever played by her these days is "Here When Gone." It was my first Jewel bootleg song. It was bad quality, but I still could listen to it over and over. Then when I got the Jewelstock cds it was on it and even better with superb quality. I love that song so much, if Jewel or any of your afiliates bothers to read this, PLAY THIS SONG SOME MORE PLEASE! ITS BEAUTIFUL. And the idea part of my subject. I think it would be nice for one more single to be released off of This Way and I think that I Wont Walk Away would be great for it. It would make a good single I believe. A live form like Train's live release/video of "Drops of Jupiter" would be nice (live and studio videos were released for the song) but is unlikely with the lack of upcoming concerts anytime soon I guess. But it would be a nice closing of the album. I have no idea if it would bother getting played since Break Me and This Way didnt fare too well on the charts; I heard This Way a few times in a mall in September and Break Me was never heard on the radio but was on the ChumFM 30 (Toronto based music chart) for a couple of weeks, making it to 18. I havent seen the video for This Way yet besides on poor quality real player! (the fastest connection you can get here is less than 56k) But I think I Wont Walk Away could get requested. Its a great song, especially for the adult pop charts etc., where Jewel usually comes up on. Commercially, even though Jewel isnt going for homecoming queen anymore, This Way could've probably fared a lot better (Not saying that over a million copies in the US alone is bad!) if different songs were released as singles. This Way was beautiful, and Break Me was even more beautiful, but not the kind of music for the pop charts? Just my opinion I guess. I think Do You Want To Play (maybe at least ;p) and I Wont Walk Away would of fared better. But I love Break Me more than those songs so yeah. Just from a commercial/industry point of view, which Im probably not very good at! All that aside, I love Jewels views on music and how it should be handled much better than the industry. Do what you feel like is best, not what the industry feels like is best. Okay, that was one long mixed up rant! I got a little off track. To sum that all up, Jewel is on the right track, making good music dont worry, her acoustic songs will never die off either. Here When Gone is a beautiful song that I love. I wont walk away should be released to finish off This Way, and Jewel is on the right track! Well, thats all I have to say! Thanks for reading, for those of you who managed to read it all! Maybe we just need to have some patience. Artists need to go through stages and try on different hats...Personally I'd be thrilled if Jewel released a solo acoustic album and I'd run out and get it immediately, but I also want to hear other things that Jewel wants to do. I'm willing to wait. I'm hoping that eventually maybe she'll make public some of the wonderful songs from Jewelstock, perhaps a double CD live acoustic CD of Jewelstock, or something like that. Or, at least, acoustic live performances with some of her charming, personable and funny banter. We'll have to wait and see, I guess. But, I do think we shouldn't try to peg artists into one style and demand they they keep giving us the same food...I mean, she is after all an artist and should try to expand creatively. Let's just wait and hope to get some acoustic soul food sooner rather than later, but I'd say let's be patient and let Jewel decide when she's ready to do that. I think a Jewelstock CD of the best performances of Jewel would be incredible, but that might be something way down the road later on in JEwel's career. We'll have to see how it unfolds.
