[Mike Connell Subject: [EDA] Bad Trader on the good side there are alot of good traders here. i've traded with over 30 different people and only jullian byrde has burned me. sure, some people take there time or have computer problems or busy with school. sometimes i've had to wait close to a month, another time 6 months(!) but most all have been good experiences. maybe if someone is unsure of someone they can ask the list about this person and then others can respond. i'm not saying do this for every single cd but when you have a major trade set up like 100 blank cdrs (yikes!) or a save the linoleum original they can ask the list and people can respond privately. i think this plus if you do have a real bad experience with someone then you should share your experiences. unfortunately i think this julianne byrd is long gone and doing the same bs somewhere else. hopefully she'll get hers. does someone still have her address? i might have it in an old email at work but i'm not sure. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 01:34:48 EST From: Dave0828@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] sour trader suggestion Have to chime in an agreement with Mike here. I've seen this happen in eBay buying and selling. With the feedback system that they have, some people through miscommunication can be quick to post a negative comment. Then the next day their item arrives and they want to take it back. But, they can't. So, just be careful. If you don't hear from someone for a while there may be a good reason. For instance - last month I spent three weeks going all over the place. Then I got back and I was backlogged with work and school. Finals just ended - I got caught up on some work projects. And, trades that I said I'd send a while ago just got sent. Now, I told all of these people that I would be a while sorting things out, etc., so, no one swatted the fact that they waited from before Thanksgiving to almost Christmas. But, this also lends to his comment about how important communication is. Yes, sometimes you are getting stiffed. But, MOST people on this list are pretty good people. We're just in a world of e-mails, cell phones and FedEx's where society expects instant gratification. I'll include myself in that bunch of course - I want the things that I want to be here yesterday. I just have to give a BIG agreement that communication and patience are the most important things. They breed each other. If a delay is communicated for a valid reason, there is little to no impatience. At any rate -- it's very hard to take something back. So just be careful what you say in haste. Guidelines/definition should help in this matter. Exactly Mike. Thus the simple beauty of the eBay rating system. You can't hurl a negative at someone without getting one back ... in this case, the "bad trader" should be allowed to respond and I'd leave out the long editorial - as in comments are 50 words or less. There's a long time list member that I know routinely takes over a month for a trade, but if you know that going in - and that she spends extra time to make sure the record is excellent and that there a few goodies thrown in - you'd know what to expect. == Rob == ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 16:55:07 -0500 (EST) From: V Alex Brennen Subject: [EDA] NJC: Steve Poltz show hey everyone, steve poltz is playing a show in tx with my eda friend bea (pronounced bay-a). she will probably cover some jewel stuff, she is really good at it. but, she can't do the La, da, di, da, di, da, di thing at all. :) her songs are really good too - if she doesn't do covers. anywayz here is the info from her website (http://www.onlymebea.com/): december 29 @ sidecar pub in houston 7pmish with Beaver Nelson, Steve Poltz, Judd Newcomb and Adam Carroll. i am trying to learn to cover the abcs. :) - alex * the geek angel * ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 17:53:05 -0500 (EST) From: V Alex Brennen Subject: [EDA] Selling Downloads of Concerts wouldn't it be cool if the jteam could get rights from the label to sell downloads of a couple of jewel's best concerts? like buffalo '02? phish is doing just that: "Phish have a new system for distributing their music. At livephish.com they will be selling their soundboard concert recordings. Most 2-3 hour concerts will cost $10 to download in mp3 format, $13 to download in the lossless shn format. What makes this interesting is that they're putting no DRM on these files at all. How are they protecting themselves? One paragraph in their Faq: 'Live Phish Downloads relies on an honor system, and we ask that you do not abuse the unrestricted nature of these files. If you would like to see this type of delivery of shows continue and flourish, please respect our taping policy and don't abuse the system.'" for you youngsters who don't know, phish has a liberal recording policy and has lots of their fans who trade like the eda's or dead heads. one of my college roommates was really into it. he had an entire rack of tapes - like over 200 of them - that where all live phish. he's the guy who got me started going to concerts and interested in angel food and stuff like that. i actually said to him once, "why would i want to go to the concert, i got the cd right here!" i never heard someone, who wasn't on psychedelic drugs at the time, say the word 'dude' with so much inflection in my life. lol =) maybe for jewel's next album they can do it... it would be great for those of us who aren't usually near the tour dates or can't make it to the concerts for whatever reason. - alex * the geek angel * ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 20:46:55 -0500 (EST) From: "Neal" Subject: [EDA] Bad Traders Sour... Hey ya'll. I am not that involved with this list. But if there was a bad trader, and you all labeled them. Couldn't they just sign up again under a different name? So maybe to your bad list could be addresses. But still they could use a friends or PO Box. Just like anything in life..... where theres a will theres a way. So like mike said, just honesty and courtesy and respect. Neal Dogg.... As do most markets I am sure, a couple of stations here play 100% Christmas/Holiday music for about 3 or 4 weeks leading up to Christmas day. Prior to this season I had NEVER heard any of Jewel's tunes from Joy on the radio, so I made a point this year that whenever I am in the motorized vehicle, at home and not watching the toob, and at work, I am listening to one of the two stations. Been doing so solid now for over 25 days. Haven't heard a Jewel song from Joy: A Holiday Collection yet. Granted, there are thousands of Christmas songs out there from lord knows how many artists from the past 6 decades, but ya'd think I'd hear Jewel's Oh Holy Night or Silent Night or something from Joy at least once. Anyone hearing her holiday stuff on the radio anywhere?
