It's a fairly harmless magazine. But if Jewel could grace the cover of that magazine fully clothed, fully dry and without a lollipop in her mouth, and look sexy as hell (which we know she would)... I think it'd be fantastic... because it'd show everyone that sexy is an attitude, and doesn't necessarily require ass-nakedness or a g-string or various strategically taped bits of fabric. TO me that whole industry is missing the point. THey need to get an imagination instead of angling just to get everyone to strip for the camera. As far as playboy goes... Jewel doesn't need that. I don't have anything against the magazine persay, but I don't think it's appropriate for Jewel. JEWELBLUES@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2002 03:01:20 EST From: Dave0828@aol.com Subject: [EDA] On to other things.... Alright, I'm sure that most of us have heard just about enough of some of the recent topics. Here's one for everyone to consider - and hopefully someone in charge of the maintenance of Jewel's site and the creation of it's pages might pass the idea along to her. Does anyone recall the idea that Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young used via an internet poll to choose their setlists for their first tour together in years? They had an internet poll that asked what the fans wanted to hear. And, they created their setlists from the most popular answers. Now, I think that we know which half dozen songs or so are tried and true that Jewel will play on most nights - alright, maybe we can list a dozen or more. But, I'm not even sure that she knows which of her b-sides and unreleased songs the fans want to hear. Maybe they could list 2 - 3 dozen of those songs on her site and the most popular of them can get polished up for the next tour. The ones that won out and got played - that's what her fans really wanted to hear. Those of you that cast one vote for Food Stamp Love - sorry, Boy Needs a Bike, Emily, Last Dance Rodeo etc will probably win out over the completely obscure. But, hey - at least some of the other material would get dusted off - - and by popular opinion no less. Just an idea - and not an entirely original one once again. But, it may be a pretty good one. Later, Dave ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2002 03:19:27 EST From: DPS8315@aol.com Subject: [EDA] blah de blah I know I shouldn't even post this because it's going to do no good, but I already typed it out. Someone was dissing on Michiel: > SO many times > yet still only comes on here and blabs about how beautiful she is. YES > we know she is beautiful. > I want to point out that while I dont always read every "jewel is so beautiful" line in Michiel's posts, he does frequently comment on how much he loves her art as well, and I think that it's a shame that every topic that comes up these days turns into bashing one EDA or the other because they're simply more liberal than others on the list. I don't think anything truly profound came out of the to pose or not to pose debate, but it contained moral, political, and even artistic value and I'm glad we had the discussion, at the prospect that something truly profound might have been said. Most importantly, I hope that those that have been bashed before aren't afraid to continue to speak liberally. YES we know she is beautiful. thats a given, and any fool can see that. we are EDAs because we see beyond that. could i be more annoyed by the never ending beauty related posts from michiel... NO. they are so pointless, if you have read one you have read them all. hey, remember she sings songs? she has a mind? she writes awesome poetry, poetry that doesnt need a series of sexy pics with ty to sell! use your imagination. and to even consider her being in playboy or maxim would be a good thing is just disappointing. do you listen to anything she says? she has turned them down several times for a reason. its not her, its not comfortable for her, its not where she wants her career to go, she doesnt want to be associated with that image. she is an artist, and in that she gets so much respect. i have been to strip clubs, male and female, and i gained a ton of respect for them going to those clubs, i didnt think that would happen, but it did. but i know that is not going to be the outcome if jewel poses in those magazines. i wont know what to think. she will lose that mystery. she will lose that respect as an artist that i have set so high. i dont think at all that people who do those things are bad or people to be disrespected. but some people are made for that stuff and some arent. some people go right into that life and career, cus its what they want as a living. jewel has a career and a living and she doesnt need to show her tits to get more of what she already has. anyway, these posts about jewel being so beautiful are really annoying and i think they should stop, michiel. we know shes pretty, and sexy, and all that, but to hear it every day is a bit much. i kinda like the mystery that nobody really says how great she looks, but we just know that we all think she does, it doesnt need to be said. want to discuss something about jewel, comment on a lyric or something... but after it dont mention how fuckable she looked as she sang that song while you were standing next to her on stage at your 4000th jewel show, cus we dont care! was that harsh?...oooooh i like it that way! alisa<<< - -- Join my Dark Angel forums! http://forums.delphiforums.com/dafanclub http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dafanclub ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2002 09:00:11 -0600 From: "Rob Hanning" Subject: Re: [EDA] ANWA >From: DPS8315@aol.com >To: jewel@smoe.org >Subject: [EDA] ANWA >Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2002 03:23:23 EST > >The chitter chatter about the release of a new book of romance poetry has >me >wondering how many people have read through ANWA in its entirety... James, please! ;) Not only did I read it cover to cover at least half a dozen times when it first came out...I just pulled it out of storage last month and read it cover to cover again because a friend has asked me to do a reading at his wedding, and I need some material. My favorites: Saved from Myself; So Just Kiss Me; Cautious; The Slow Migration of Glaciers; Tai Pei; I Miss Your Touch; Grimshaw; All the Words; You Are Not; Infatuation; Long Has a Cloak; Road Spent; We Talk; Lost; Sometimes; I Guess What I Wanted Was; Insecurity; I Keep Expecting You To; P.S.; Someone to Know Me; May Brought Longer Days; Crazy Cow; God Exists Quietly >I have taken the liberty of stealing a few of her >ideas for poetry of my own... I won't go so far as to say I stole her ideas, but I did write something shortly after reading the book which I realized later kind of reads like some of her stuff. (I'm debating whether to include it here or not, but I don't think I will.) Interesting, because when I write poetry, it is totally stream-of-consciousness. The first verse comes to me all at once, and once I put pen to paper, word follows word, with no time for premeditation in between. So I guess that's an indication of how much Jewel's thought patterns had invaded my head at the time. Okay i might have been going a little too far, but my posts are always very very jewelish. If i say Jewel pose for a magazine, than this is not necessarily a wish. It is just a suggestion, do fans on this list think that i don4t like her songs, that i am not touched by her lyrics and words??? Why would i otherwise go to see her in concert over and over again. Why would i ask for Does anyone believe in love when i was standing next to her on stage, or why would i request Jewel to play Satellite in the USA? Of course i would lie if am not struck by her beauty or her personality. She has all that fans appreciate, a lovely body and excellent songs. Her performance always is the best on stage, no doubt that i like that the most. Just because i fantasisied a little about jewel, doesn4t make me look bad. Okay i might have crossed the line, but i never intended to say that jewel is not making the right choices. Jewel can do whatever she wants, and if she doesn4t pose for magazines than fine. I don4t want it in the end of the day and my comments about jewel playing with ty on sheets in bed, were in my imagination just some nice photos of them together in love. So innocent photos nothing to deal with anything not understandle photos.. So fans who always attack me don4t know what i feel for jewel4s music and what i respect about jewel. those assumptions of some they call them eda4s make me SICK. They are always played on my own person, that is low and not fair. Some fans do respect me on the jewellist. But i have the idea that the mainstream is wanting to break my person by hurting me.. but i can handle it, i know what jewel has done for me in my life, and what i have done for jewel to become more appreciated by fans at the shows.. i am always there to support jewel at shows, no matter what it takes...i just love jewel and her music forever. my 22222222222 jewel cents on the matter.... michiel ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2002 17:33:44 +0100 From: "Michiel - van - Gorkum" Subject: [EDA] and i apologize Jewelfans, For my posts for posing for a magazine, that is a little crazy though. They only thing i was referring to that Jewel is pretty but that her other talents are always more interested to go for. I admit i may have crossed the line, and i won4t let that happen again. I appreciate jewel for what she has achieved, and i appreciate always her own decisions. her choices always have been the right ones....so i take my words back for the posts i made about posing for a magazine.....i was never excplicit. I just thought jewel could do something strange, but she hasn4t to do craazy things. she is a mature woman, and her choices are great. She has great songs, great lyrics, i never intended to be insulting or cruel to jewel4s real talents. i never doubted them, and i always support jewel with her music and songs... i hope everyone understands, that i am just a jewelfan, and that that is important to me. michiel ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2002 13:06:48 EST From: JeWeLNuMbEr1FaN@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] ANWA I musta read anwa about 4000 times...I loveee it...I actually read it to my friends when we go on trips to places to lol...I make them listen :) ~Michele ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2002 13:07:32 EST From: JeWeLNuMbEr1FaN@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] ANWA I musta read anwa about 4000 times...I loveee it...I actually read it to my friends when we go on trips to places to lol...I make them listen :) ~Michele ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2002 10:28:53 -0800 (PST) From: Lee Garner Subject: [EDA] Jewel posing. Howdy y'all, I have been following a little on all the recent threads, and here's my input. I find Jewel VERY attractive, especially now that she's gained a tiny bit of weight (I like full-figured women I guess). I, too, feel that Jewel's talents and opportunities don't lie in just music anymore, as many of you do. She's done music, a movie, books, and soon another movie. But what else can she do? I personally wouldn't mind seeing Jewel in Playboy, because that magazine is made with intentions more than just to show naked women. Playboy has always been more of a softcore magazine, showing lots in a more reserved, softer image. I would NOT like to see her in Penthouse or Hustler. If Jewel did pose for Playboy, I would hope it would be done in a way that doesn't compromise her image. Instead, I'd rather see it like a partial nudity, or just her wrapped up in a bedsheet. Something that wouldn't look trashy or sleazy, or maybe a little digital editing that would give her ANGEL WINGS. Hmm...topless Jewel with angel wings, could be something kick-ass there. I'm just going to say, however, that what gets to ma about her isn't even her looks or music...it's her mind, her ideas, and her beliefs that I'm really into. Just look at my favorite quote.
