I think that first line goes along very well with what has been mentioned a bit on the list lately... Jewel has a lot going on in her career, ,and i'm sure in the blend of her personal life as well... I definately agree that I'd rather see new albums than "the repackaging of old material." (Even if the new albums feature old songs like Sometimes it be that way) :):):) Unfortunately, the fact that she has so much going on that is "good" for her career right now means we'll probably never see her on the cover of Maxim or Playboy... Which honestly, deep down, we all feel is a shame. :) Don't get me wrong, I'm sure she'll age wonderfully, but she's not going to have the same opportunities with Playboy in 10 or 15 years... Since she spent so much on all that lingerie she needs to get some use out of it (not just private use) Do it now dammit! Why do I know these things? I read it for the articles. Yeah right... I read it because they have dreamgirls like Tia Carerre on occasion. If Belinda can do it at her age - Jewel can do it years from now. And, probably better. Always leave them wanting more. Hi Everyone!
I have just joined the list and am very excited about it! I am a
big Jewel fan as I'm sure you all are. I've heard of the EDA's but have
never found the time to investigate. My husband spends alot of time
online while I take care of our now 15-month old daughter Jewel (you
guessed it, named after THE JEWEL). Thanks to Lesley for pointing me in
the right direction. I look forward to hearing from others who love
Jewel and her music like I do.

Ann

Hey everyone.

Does anybody happen to have any Michelle Branch shows on c.d.? I've been looking everywhere and haven't been able to find any. I have a lot of Jewel stuff to trade, as well as a few Fiona shows. Please e-mail me if you can help.

Subject: [EDA] Jewel & Alanis Similarities

Okay so I'm going to see Alanis for the first time tommorrow and I was
thinking how her and Jewel's careers have kinda mirrored eachother...here's
my thoughts.

Jewel's Debut Album : 12 Million Copies
Alanis's Debut Album: 17 Million Copies

Both are in the top 10 best-selling albums by solo-females of all time. Both
released singles which defined the mid-late '90s. The singles form both
albums were mega hits. Both albums define the girls as major recording
artists with a lot of talent.

Jewel's Sophomore Album: 6 Million Copies
Alanis's Sophomore Album: 4 Million Copies

Both intial singles (Hands, Thank U) were both huge songs that got the album
to sell. The second singles both had some success, but the rest of the
singles got little to no air play.

Jewel's Third Album (Joy): 1 million copies
Alanis's Third Album (JLP Live ((canada only))): 1 Million Copies

Both of the artists now have had a major continual fanbase, which helped this
albums go platnium, with no singles released.

Jewel's Fourth - 1 million
Alanis's Fourth - ! Million

First singles are huge hits which give the albums strong debuts. The second
singles get a little play, and then the third don't go far.

I LOVE THEM BOTH!!!

Such an awful decline! hehe.

And you would have thought that Standing Still could have gotten "This Way"
more sales.

Subject: [EDA] live dvd idea

I think I brought up this idea a while back, but I think i'll mention it
again because I think it's a good idea. Bearing in mind this would be an
extremely long and complicated process and woudl probably take a year to
compile fully... but I think it'd be awesome and worth it.

This could be done for either the band tour or the solo tour.. preferably
both.

Basically - take a typical setlist (ie - 25 songs roughly) and then choose a
different show for each song - ie: try and find the BEST performance. Then
do like a kind of a roadmap theme (which would tie in with the "This Way"
idea), and go from show to show playing the songs in order and including
backstage footage and interviews. I think it'd be a cool way to sort of
document the tour as well as having a live "concert". And the same could be
done for the acoustic shows. It would be awesome - but they'd have to make
the backstage stuff decent and detailed enough... and they'd have to make the
performances FULL performances... not clips or cutting from show to show in
the middle of a song.

Anyone like this idea?

I also love the idea of selling soundboard recordings of shows for a limited
time. However, if they're only sold for a limited time and only online by
the J-Team I could see a problem if bootleggers got hold of them in the
future. But there could be ways of getting around that. I remember another
band sold separate concerts of their tour in stores. I remember going into a
store and seeing like 30 different "concerts". I forget the band though.

later

Steve
