But add this: I actually gave a lot of thought myself to the potential "behind-the-scenes" motives the Jewel team might have with everything that is Soul City Cafe... I don't think they're using it to promote Jewel's musical career, but I do think there's some huge money making potential. Consider this: Jewel has two albums left with Atlantic, correct? If she puts out one this spring and then a compilation of live appearances or other unreleased songs, she's out of her contract. She's already started a movie production company, and to the outside eye I think it's completely plausible that she's trying to build momentum for a possible launch of her own record label- not only to produce her own albums, but to sign all of these great-potential-money-makers (present and future Soul City Cafers) to her new label... and to make a killing off of the one or two that make it big. Is she that devious or ill-intentioned? I seriously doubt it... but it's definately an angle to be looked at. For the June 9th show, I can piece together everything except these three songs: Emily, ,The Little Bird (Lenedra only), Who Will Save Your Soul, If anybody has these on their version of Java Joes (this has to be an old school EDA with one of the first tapes) PLEASE let me know. I want to get a complete source and to do a CD-Tree. In all of this I've learned that there's at least a partial recording of June 11, the next day... I'm assuming this is all with Poltz: JAVA JOE'S - 6/11/96 SIDE A Not The Right Time For Love Crazy World Fade Away ? Single Life ? ? Lockjaw ? Going Out w/Golds Gym Side B I Thought I Saw You Last Night Old Lover's House On The Wings Of A Song Passing Time Silver Lining You Were Meant For Me Build A Fence Around My Heart ? UPS So I kinda figure a 3 day collection is worthy of a Cd-Tree if I can find a donor with a source good enough to transfer. If Japan gets the CD a couple weeks early, as they did with "This Way" then you can order it from Japan via 2 day shipping and get it, about 10 days before most Americans. Obviously taking unknown artists out on the road isn't going to bring HER any new fans - if anything the effect will be the opposite - some of her fans will become fans of the artists (ie - what we've seen happen with Jason Mraz particularly). And as far as paying the artists for their time - as somebody on that list said, the costs Jewel must be incurring having this program up and running must be quite substantial. Paying people to work on SoulCityCafe for ONE thing... The amount of exposure that the winning artists will get going on tour for an extended period with Jewel is worth more than the $$ it'll take to travel to the locations and all that. It'll take their career to the next level. For any musician trying to "make it" in this industry.. that's worth more than a measly few hundred bucks they might get paid for the same gig in a bar or whatever. I hope that all's going well with your family. I'm thinking of them and everyone else too. The fact that we are in the middle of the worst drought we have seen for almost 50 years doesn't help with the need for water to fight the fires. And its not just the fires in NSW either, we have had numerous bush fires burning down here in South East Queensland - - we have just been lucky enough to have the fires all put out before they have gotten to the magnitude as they are down south. Fire has got to be one of the most destructable things on this earth, and to think that all of that turmoil can be started by one person and they can get away with it is beyond my mind. shan the aussie angel > Date: Fri, 06 Dec 2002 22:52:20 +1100 > From: "~* Venus Aphrodite*~" > > Subject: [EDA]- Prayers Needed > > hi all!, > I know there are a lot of people who need > prayers right now. Hi Angels, What would you ask Jewel if you could ask her a couple questions whether that would be via meeting in person, the telephone, or email wouldn't matter, but what would you ask if you could get answers from Jewel? For me, since June 2000, it has been the following: When Jewel's people held an auction to raise money, I purchased a suitcase that Jewel used. However, there was very little information provided to me. All I was told is that Jewel used it for sure when she moved from Interlochen to San Diego and there is two luggage tags with old addresses in San Diego, one of which she wrote. So, if I could ask Jewel a question I would want to know more about my (or should I say Jewel's) suitcase. Does she remember it? How long did she use it? When she lived in her van, did she have the suitcase then? I hope that one day I can know the answers to these questions. So, what would you ask Jewel?
