Thats a great idea for a cover song, I think she could do it really well. But would she be emulating Janis Joplin or doing it more her style? And what exactly is Jewel's style? In my head i hear her doing it Jewel-style (me and bobhy mcgee). I hear her doing it in that sort of growly Sweet HOme Alabama way. Actually, I haven't yet heard her cover of Sweet HOme Alabama but I can imagine that im my head too. I guess I've taken in so much of Jewel's singing that I can actually almost predict in my head what she's sound like and play the tape. It's very bizarre. Of course, it would probably sound different from how I imagined, but I have a feeling I wouldn't be that far off. Like Jewel's "Me and Bobby McGee" would in some ways be like Janis', but it would also be very different. It would be with Jewel;s voice and her growlier stuff. It would be sweet, raunchy and great all rolled into one. ;-) Okay, I know I'm making absolutely no sense. But I hope you understand anyway :-) Amy _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Dec 2002 10:48:34 +0000 From: "Amy Emerman" Subject: [EDA] trying on different styles One thing I love about Jewel actually is her unpredicatability in the sense that she is very experimental with different styles and willing to explore. Like one album may be totally different from another. I love that she lets her be so creative and really masters so many different genres of music. That takes extraordinary talent to be able to move so comfortably from one style to another and to be able to do them all so well. It's really extraordinary. And I don't even think she had that much vocal training. She has an outsanding gift. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Dec 2002 11:09:45 EST From: DPS8315@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Java Joes Again - If you have it you NEED to read this :) I'm still looking for the dates on my Java Joes discs. Most of the suggestions I got were June 9th and 10th 1996, but no one was positive. Here are the full setlists for the discs I have. (important stuff towards the bottom) Disc One 1. fading away 2. In a Woman's Life (chords are just like sometimes it be that way) 3. Sometimes it be that way 4. Fragile Heart (aka Low Calorie Song) 5. Innocence Maintained 6. Butter Cup 7. I'm Sensitive 8. Tiny Love Spaces 9. Marital Carnival 10. Near You Always 11. Fat Boy (Fragile Flame) 12. Morning Song 13. Deep Water 14. You Were Meant For Me 15. Nikos 16. Race Car Driver 17. Amen Disc Two 1. Morning Song 2. Little Sister 3. Satelite 4. Don't No Seperate Track - 1,000 Miles Away 5. She Cries 6. My Fish Family 7. Studies in Love #12 8. All the Animals 9. Nicotine Love You Were Meant For Me (False Start?) 10. Carnivore 11. Cold Song 12. Sometimes It Be That Way 13. Chime Bells On Angel Needs a Ride (a fairly well known website) He lists these for the June 9th 10th 1996 dates: June 9, 1996 Java Joes SIDE A Absence Of Fear Carnivore 1000 Miles Away Satellite A Boy Needs A Bike Angel Needs A Ride Fade Away If This Is What Love Is Sometimes It Be That Way Fragile Heart SIDE B Innocence Maintained Buttercup I'm Sensitive Tiny Love Spaces Marital Carnivore Near You Always Fragile Flame Rudolph Nikos June 10, 1996 Java Joes SIDE A Morning Song Little Sister Satellite Dont' 1000 Miles Away She Cries My Fish Family Studies In Love #12 A Perfect Pair Nicotine Love Carnivore SIDE B You Were Meant For Me Adrian Near You Always Angel Standing By I'm Sensitive Deep Water Here When Gone Who Will Save Your Soul These two setlists are close enough that it looks like we've got the same shows, but he either has extra tracks added in or the copy of June 10th 1996 at least that is circulating is a pretty *bad* copy- with tracks that didnt get split properly, or tracks that might be missing altogether? My copy also has these horrible 2 second gaps that makes me hope someone out there has a good copy, without the gaps and with all the tracks... If you have setlists for your discs, or have a few extra mins to go through them, I'd really like to come up with a solution for this problem... Perhaps if someone out there feels that have a complete copy of the Java Joes discs that aren't in such bad shape, we could do a CD-Tree. It would be great with Jewel's voice all growly. love ya, shawney the hippie angel ________________________________________________________________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! As someone who has participated in contests that are used for advertising and promotion (AMA/Coca Cola New Music Award), I can tell you that there are far easier ways of driving traffic to an artist's website. And this is not Jewel's website, I don't see any info about her music or merchandise anywhere - it is separate website that deals only with these unknowns and with the charitable organizations and community that she is supporting. A contest like this one is extremely difficult to administrate and the costs and potential liabilities are huge - imagine the upkeep of this website alone. There is no way that she is going to pay for this contest from increased record sales. You will also notice that artists who have sold 10,000 albums or more are not eligible, so any artist with enough fans to really have an effect on Jewel's career (which by the way is doing fine) can't participate in this anyway. It is far more likely that the artist(s) chosen for the contest are going to be terrible than it is that he/she/they will be so good that they boost up Jewel's career. From looking at the list, it seems like they have done a pretty good job of choosing all kinds of different artists, many of them very eclectic with little commercial potential. I'm not a Jewel fan, I have no interest in her music and don't have any of her albums, but she is a nice person and is doing this primarily because she cares and because she can. >From: lisaj59@aol.com >To: indiegrrl@yahoogroups.com >Subject: Re: [indiegrrl] jewel contest >Date: Fri, 6 Dec 2002 18:46:52 EST > >In a message dated 12/6/2002 3:25:05 PM Pacific Standard Time, >bellecanto77@hotmail.com writes: > > > .
