Which makes me want to ask, is there a large collection...either in print or online, or anything likewise, of the stories behind Jewel's songs? I know that the POY book exists out there somewhere... and This Way had the little one-liners in the CD-Book, I just didn't know if there was anything else out there that is fairly indepth.. I know very little about the origins of the songs so if anyone out there has anything interesting, as always, I'm all ears. I think there was one performance in particular, maybe a few... but one that
i remember where she did that song, and it was absolutely AMAZING!!! i
mean... you can feel her singing the song! I loved that one. But i forgot
which one it was. I think it may have been when she performed it on
Rosie.... the one where rosie talked about her "favorite Jewel item" the
calendar! :) I need to go through all my video stuff and find that
performance again! its my favorite!

Subject: [EDA] if jewel could cover any song ever written?

Hi Angels,
If Jewel put on her new album a cover of "Sometimes I Feel Like a
Motherless Child" I would be ecstatic. It would be challenging for
her and I know she would do a good job of it. I first heard this song
on the radio, in a tiny, cold room in Paris in the winter of 1964-65
and it has haunted me ever since. A black American woman sang it -- I
don't know who, but I've been searching -- on and off -- over the
years for that version. Unsuccessfully. I have versions of this song
by Sarah Vaughan, Marian Anderson, Paul Robeson and Pete Seeger. A
few years ago I heard a version by Jimmy Witherspoon and some jazz
saxophonist, which was really great, but I have not been able to find
that recording. If Jewel were to do it, it would be just wonderful.
Take care,
Barry Howarth

Subject: [EDA] nedra and true story about nedra

I want a mommy like lenedra. My own mommy is good too, but she was very
concerned with her own issues and didn't always see me. She got polio when
she was seven years old and has been in a wheelchair ever since. And still
she managed to have me the natural way (well, caesarean birth) but otherwise
the natural way and she and my dad have the best marriage I've ever seen
that has lasted over thirty years it's rather amazing, really

I once met Nedra in an elevator in the TIME LIFE BUILDING in Manhattan when
she was there to meet some people to discuss Jewel's upcoming publishing
deal, which didn't happen with time warner. It happened with Harper Collins.
But I was working on the 11th Floor and Jewel's mom was downstairs in the
conference room on the 9th floor and I went downstairs and jumped in the
elevator with her and told her that I loved Jewel. That was when I had just
recently purchased Jewel's first album and was blown away by its simplicity
and powerfulness all in one package

Anyway, Nedra said, "Yeah, she's a good one" (about Jewel).

She was extremely nice.

Then the elevator went down to the first floor and Nedra and the woman with
her got out and I went back upstairs to the 11th floor where I went back to
my desk where I was working as a sales assistant in the s&m department. I am
not working there anymore b/c I do not want to work for the man. At least
not in that capacity.

I'm a teacher now. For the now, anyway
I work with three year olds
And I sing on the side because one must always have a passion or one dies

That's all for today

Angels,

I need help identifying two of my bootlegs. They are two Java Joes discs,
but they dont seem to match anyone's track lists...

The first disc starts with these songs:

1. fading away
2. In a Woman's Life (chords are just like sometimes it be that way)
3. sometimes it be that way
4. Fragile Heart (aka Low Calorie Song)
5. Innocence Maintained

Ends with:
17. Amen

Second disc:

the recording starts, "Hi! I've decided, if you weren't here last night, San
Diego is the best place on-earth."

1. Morning Song
2. Little Sister
3. Satelite
4. Don't
5. She Cries

13. Chime Bells

Anyone that can help me out with the dates of these shows will get copies at
my expense. In the event you already have them (likely) I'll make you any
other show from my growing list (I think I finally made it over 100 shows!)

Offlist, I then asked the master of all recorded sound, MrBB:

To which the exhalted one wrote back to Barry & I:

Man, is he good or is he good? Barry's been searching for this since Ike &
Mamie were still getting it on and MrBB probably nailed it for him in
minutes.The dude knows everything.

MrBB also added about "Sometimes I feel like a motherless child":
 > By the way, when Jewel was in her teens, she

Wow. That's kewel. Barry wondered if she would ever cover that song and she
did so over a decade ago. Looks like I have to visit the Bershaw's this
winter and have him toss it on the cassette deck. I imagine though she
could do a new killer version of it now as Barry wishes.

24th.

This week we are also featuring a mix of photos from our adventures in
