I'd like to hear their take on the show. > thx > Emily I was there. Just by chance too. I was up in buffalo doing consulting for roswell park on thursday and friday and I stayed till sunday so I could go see the falls and the city on saturday. I found out about the show because I was walking around down town buffalo looking at all the beautiful church architecture and there's that romanesque church right across the circle from klienhan's music hall. I had no idea jewel was playing. I'm glad I stumbled into it. The show was great. She played allot of songs and the songs had allot of emotion behind them. She did an amazing performance of life uncommon. I got to hear her yodel for the first time too. I had those early eda tickets to her ft. lauderdale show but I gave them to some friends as a wedding present and they are both cuban and had never heard yodeling before. Even time I see them they tell me how amazing jewel's yodeling was. It is the funniest thing because they always tell me part in spanish with this mix of like shock and amazement. It always make me giggle. I thought their reaction was just because it was so culturally different for them, but it really is pretty amazing sounding. Now they'll have to hear about it from me. :) I was thinking about hanging out for a few minutes after the show to meet the other eda's who where there to see if I could get a copy of the recording, and to say hey because I'm kind of thinking about moving up to buffalo to work for RPCI full time and it would be nice to get to know some people locally. But, I felt kind of weird hanging out after a show and I figured I would just say hi on the list. So, hi and I'd really love to have a copy of that performance of life uncommon. :) I think the venue was only about 80% full. I was way in the back under the balcony in the row just before all the empty seats. I was kind of surprised that it wasn't sold out, but I went to this irish pub after the show which was pretty much empty too and I was talking to the bartender and the cook and they where telling me that the cities in the area have lost allot of their population of the last few years because of the local economy and everyplace has been kinda empty lately. The crowd was actually a bad crowd for a jewel concert which was surprising too! Maybe that's why security got so much tighter. People interrupted the show allot to give flowers and ask for autographs and one guy up close to the stage even yelled "show us your tits" or something like that after yelling a bunch of other stuff. I was creeped out by it, and I was all the way on the other side of the venue. I don't know if security threw him out or not, but I didn't hear him yelling anymore after that. Overall, it was a really great show. I saw her in Miami which was really really good too, but I think Buffalo was the best performance I've been to. The acoustics in the music hall where awesome even from the seat that I had. It's definitely worth getting a copy of the recording if you can. If I manage to get a copy from someone, I can share it with some people too. - alex * the geek angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Nov 2002 23:28:22 +0000 From: "Lauren Bennett" Subject: [EDA] Atlanta show Hey, I'm kind of an inactive EDA in hiding. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHUCK! ******************************************** ***NOTES FROM MrBB Hi All, The Northeast swing of Jewel's solo acoustic tour is off to a real nice start. The audiences have been very responsive to our Soul City Cafe opener Jason Mraz and Jewel has been captivating East Coast audiences, who haven't seen her perform full length solo acoustic concerts in quite some time. I've noticed that recent audiences seem considerably more respectful and attentive. Especially when performing solo, this often brings out the best in Jewel and it allows her to play some of her quieter material, which she rarely attempts in noisy environments. The concert at Foxwoods last Friday evening was a perfect example. Jewel was relaxed and very interactive with the audience, but during many songs you could've heard a pin drop, it was so quiet. Not to mention this was one of the most comfortable and best sounding rooms (with a phenomenal PA System!) that we've enjoyed in quite awhile. A very enjoyable night that we filmed and we hope to get a video clip from that up on the tour section for you next week sometime. Jewel is off today and tomorrow, but we're looking forward to the next stops in NJ, NY and MA. I usually wander around outside the venue prior to shows and I've had the great pleasure of meeting thousands of you over the years and I can honestly say Jewel's fans are some of the friendliest and coolest people on the planet. I hope to meet some more of you later this week. If you see me wandering around, come on up and say hi! Sorry if this gets to be a tad lengthy, I'll try and keep it as short as possible, but I've been putting off making a reply about this for days, so I'm getting it all out now :) First of all, I read the entire thing, despite how long it was, and how incomprehensible it became at times. I decided if I was going to give an opinion on it, I should read the whole story - as it seems by some comments, others haven't read the whole thing (and I don't blame you, because it was long, but if you're going to comment about certain things in it, you should probably make sure you know what you're commenting about). So this is my take on it - the guy is being a little too sensitive and illogical. First of all, as someone else has already said, you don't give a gift to someone and *expect* to get something in return, at least without arranging it ahead of time (which makes it more of a deal, not a gift). If he really did just want to give it to Jewel as a gift, he should never have expected to get anything back. The fact is, that Jewel probably doesn't get a lot of the gifts etc. sent to her, and even if she was given the painting, it's quite possible that she wasn't given the other contents of the package with it. Now on that point, the guy goes on to say he found out later that Jewel's brother gave it to her and told her that he had it made for her - now, when he found that out (if he indeed did - some of his statements either contradict his sentiments, or don't make a lot of sense) wouldn't it make sense for him to be mad at Jewel's brother, rather than at Jewel, since there was no way for her to control the actions of her brother? On that note, he *did* get the autographed book (which some people don't seem to have read) and though a long time later, it is what he wanted to begin with, but he seemed dissatisfied with it - which, again, is not Jewel's fault that after the problem of him not receiving it was solved, that he wasn't happy with it. On that note, he askes for the painting back, which is *ridiculous*, if it was a sincere and genuine gift, then despite not "being satisfied" with what he received, he should have just left it alone. I mean, you don't ask your friend for a birthday gift back two years later when you get in a fight and aren't really friends anymore. Someone said "he should get his painting back", and the fact is that he *did* indeed get his painting back. and I have a comment to make about this statement: "And if they were going to use it to promote Jewel, they should have sent him a check." I don't think they ever used to painting to "promote" Jewel. He said it was hanging in her corporate lobby, that's not really a use of promotion. That's no different than hanging any other painting in the lobby of a business, other than the fact that it was unique to her. Regardless, after he gave the painting to Jewel as a gift, she was free to use it however she wished, as long as she was never claiming she painted it, or made copies of it and used it on promotional materials or something like that. He didn't deserve any compensation for it's use as a painting hanging in her corporate lobby because it was (supposed to be) a gift. As for the "owl in the music video" part... he said the owl showed up in her music video two months after he sent the painting. Most likely the video production was probably wrapped up and in editing for those two months, before Jewel ever set eyes on the painting. ~ Sandy ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #490 ***************************
