Jewel's drummer from her most recent tour!!! Looks like he found himself another gig. I really hope that Jewel keeps the same band for the next big band tour. I agree with Chrity and Lewis on many points here. I do think that people at times confuse talent and taste and how relative those two are. Personally, I don't like Dwight Yoakam's music because I don't like country music, but that doesn't mean I think that he can't sing. With someone like Britney, I can respect the hard work that she's done as an entertainer, but as far as a musician, I don't think she more talented than Jewel. Let's face the facts, she got where she is by shaking her ass more and marketing herself better. She's a singer and a dancer. For me, it's not all about the packaging. If you respect and admire her for that, then carpe diem. You have a right to your opinion. But I have right to mine. And my opinion is this: I don't like her music. I don't like the image she presents to young girls. That's it. The merits of her assets are subject to debate. Minh - ------------------------------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Oct 2002 02:25:35 -0600 From: "Lew - New World Warehouse" Subject: RE: [EDA] SJC What is talent?? I totally agree with Christy on this one. I've maintained that opinion several times over. Singing, while tough, is not unique and for the most part, anyone can really do it....some may need more vocal training than others, but even some of the most seemingly "unique" artists have taken voice lessons (even the guy from Disturbed). As a songwriter, I've always been frustrated when I see artists like Jewel that have busted ass and worked hard to make it up the ladder, while "formula" music like Britney and N-Sync top the charts. Most of that music is all marketing...basically like listening to a really long commercial. Now, don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against these people because they are still out there working their asses off. Britney I think catches a lot of flak that she doesn't deserve, but I also think she is taken too seriously by some. A lot of people discount Shakira right now, but what they don't realize is she not only writes her music, but she also helps produce it and plays quite a few instruments as well. If you listen to her older stuff (though if you don't know spanish, it takes a bit), you'll find her style is similar to the direction that Jewel is moving in now. Inevitable sounds like a Jewel tune, just in Spanish (there is an English version available on the web you can sometimes find). It's frustrating being in a band and being a songwriter and feeling like you are getting nowhere because you are actually trying to make some real music on your own instead of just strutting out, looking good and learning some dance moves. I've been writing songs since I was 8 or 9 and have been playing since I was 7. Amateur songwriters are VERY under appreciated and like it or not, when an artist "makes it" they deserve all the recognition, money and whatever else they get because there is a LOT of work to do as a musician. Too many people out there think that they just lounge around and have it easy. You try working a job where there is little to no pay and no guarantee you'll EVER get any money or fame from it all. Most people who aren't true musicians would quit after a few months, maybe a few years. Either way, next time you hear Jewel complain she can't make an interview, she doesn't feel like doing something, or feels she's losing money due to internet downloading, stop and think how long she spent doing endless gigs in clubs and hitching rides to get where she is. If you email back to the list it will get quite long and annoying.. so please just email me... and then I will compile the list and then post it for everyone to see... Well it's official that m2m has broken up. I'm sure Atlantic's lack of
support had something to do with it, but they are still "best of friends".
Marion, the brown-haired one, has been named the 2nd sexiest girl in Norway
(she appeared "slutty" to me, but I don't know her) and is going solo
(surprise....she had her own fan club while the group was still together)
personally, I like the other girl better. When i met them, she just seamed
nicer.

Subject: [EDA] NJC: RE: wanna trade cd angelfood (GroupieGrrl6969)

Maybe I'm miss understanding what she's saying, but personally, the
fact that someone out there was denied angelfood definately does not mean we
should deny others in the same way! Now if someone was denied the Jewelstock
tapes, and the way I understand it, you have them, why don't you just make
him copies? Or how about this, I'd like to publicly offer MY jewelstock
tapes to him, because I have them on CD!

Now just to keep things in perspective, when the Jewelstock tapes
first started circulating, I know *I* certainly didn't have access to a CD
burner, so Jewelstock CDs would have done me no good- since I couldn't have
made copies for others. Now that CDs have taken over the multimedia world,
it is more appropriate to trade Jewelstock on CDs.

To summarize, instead of making everyone else suffer for a wrong that
was committed a while back, let's just rectify the situation and get on with
our lives (and trading).

James
