Sorry you were right. Sarah is so evil! How could she let one of her fans say that about our precious Jewel? Jewel being stuck-up in interviews is one of the things I like about her - she doesn't suffer fools gladly and good for her... But if I was that interviewer I'd have been a bit pissed off with her too. And disliking any artist for a reason like that is pathetic. When did it stop being about the music? ...Which leads me on to the precise reason I dislike Kelly Clarkson. I'm not American so I didn't vote for that fantastic show but I was in the US for the end of it. And she is nothing special. Neither are any of the "talents" that have been discovered by these tacky star search shows. There are people like Jason Mraz and Tara Maclean around who don't sell as many records but have so much more talent and are so much more deserving of the platform Kelly (and the Pop Idol winners from the UK) are being given. She's only known at all because she's been on TV and that's a pretty shoddy reason to be popular. Other artists like the ones mentioned above and bands like Leftover Crack will never sell as many records, but they could give so much more to the world in terms of what they have to say... They're not just record company puppets... Tom. PS - In saying those things about Kelly Clarkson I'm not "bashing" her - just speaking some truth... And how can it be "artist bashing" when she's the furthest thing from an artist I can think of? :) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Oct 2002 03:21:14 -0700 From: "Jewel Worshiper" Subject: [EDA] this way single hi... would there be anyone willing to get me the This Way single??? She has brains to start a tour like Lilith and take chances. She changed the face of music for women and has been readily named by major women artists for who they thanked for the changeover to more Women performers. Just because you heard, rumors I might add, that she has a problem with Jewel is ridiculous. Anyone, and I mean anyone, who has EVER met Sarah will tell you she is not and will never be the type of person to rip on another person especially to the media and to the public. She has a great talent, & I think those judges made the right choice. Besides, it was regular people like US who voted for her, not just music producers. I'm glad that she persued her dream of a career in music, because a talent like that, or any kind for that matter, shouldn't be wasted! Like the song sais, "Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this." BTW, "A Moment Like This" is currently #15 on Casey's AT 20, after debuting on the chart just last week at #19! Obviously, people DO like her. I'd like to think that it wasn't people like ME who voted for her though. I know I wouldn't waste my time or money voting for any of 'em! I thought people who like Jewel would have respect for people who have something useful to offer the world. Something more than a pretty face and a pretty voice who just got lucky. <> This is exactly what I'm trying to say. There are people who are continually ignored by the majority of the world who are writing extremely thought-provoking lyrics which would be so useful to people if they would just listen. Songs which aren't just about love and the usual stuff, but songs which are politically relevant and could actually inspire some thought which goes further than "Ooh, this is a pretty song". These people often DO wait a lifetime for their work to be recognised... These are the talents that shouldn't be wasted, but unfortunately they are, because its not as easily accessible and people just won't take the time to listen. Jewel got lucky... Thousands of real artists don't, and people like Kelly Clarkson are a waste of everyone's time... <> I didn't dispute that people like her. I'm just pissed off that she is so popular and the really good talented artists aren't. The fact that someone is saying 'don't say anything against Kelly' and then saying they don't like Sarah Mclachlan for such a petty reason just riles me even more... I really can't understand that. They all are so nice!! We wrote them all letters and they each took the time to read them in between meeting people at the meet and greet and thanked us so much!!! I think it's terrible how people see them just because they were on a TV show. They really do have the passion, the drive, and the talent! The show reflects all of that. So in my own personal opinion, I suggest people give them a chance to be in the business for a couple months after the show before you make a final judgement. As all of us who watched the show saw, Simon's comments about people competing didn't always reflect the publics point of view on them! Thanks for allowing me to express how I feel on this subject, I hope I didn't offend any of you!
