I knew that her next album would probably take on a decidedly jazz/blues tone... but the hip hop/rnb and electronica thing is a huge surprise... and a welcome one if for no other reason than Jewel exploring new musical boundaries is absolutely the best thing she can do at this point in her career. Going back to the "girl with a guitar" folk-rock style that made her famous (which is what it seems a lot of her fans want her to do) would be basically just stepping backwards rapidly... and I think it'd be a monumental mistake. I'm glad she's ignoring said fans, and doing what she pleases. Hopefully she'll continue to surprise us. Can't wait to hear the new material. I haven't heard any of it yet as i'm sure none of you have either. So in my opinion, there's no reason to get upset about it until you've heard it. And from what the post said, it's expirimental anyways, there's no concrete plan for this to be her next album. So don't get your panties in a wad yet :). Personally I think she's the same Hopeless helpless > fragile sensitive personality and that's why we connect with Jewel's music..." I did read that and kind of raise my eyebrows a little. After all, my boyfriend can't stand Jewel and I've dragged him to see her anyway on various occasions and he's sat bored through many televised concerts while I sat with my eyes glued to the TV and not him, with my finger on the record button. Actually, he doesn't dislike her, but he doesn't see what fascinates me and he would never buy a Jewel album. He actually says I'm better as a singer, which is sweet of him, although I don't see the point of making those kinds of comparisons. I would never want to be Jewel (All right, in some moments I admit I've thought of it). I think what draws me to her though is a reflection of something that I have in me. I am also a female singer/songwriter, a Gemini, a creative type person. While I wouldn't want to "be" JEwel, I certainly like and admire her a lot. I also see things about her that are fallible, because of course, she ain't perfect. But she does come close. And she makes it looks so easy.... But, of course, I'm sure "being" her is quite a difficult thing and personally not something that I would ever want to deal with. I'm glad she's doing what she's doing, touching and moving people, and inspiring them. Many people do it on different levels, and she happens to have a particular platform. And she wears her platform well (and her platforms). ANyhoosels....yeah....I think Jewel appreciates her fans, but I actually know a lot of guys who don't like her. Some who think she's not attractive (or just okay), which I don't understand. To each his or her own. I'm sure some of the women find her attractive, but most of them not in a lustful way but in a way of appreciating the beauty and grace of another woman. I think she shouldn't underestimate her male fans, because many are not just lust-crazed idiots but people who like good music and sensitive, interesting performers. If anything, I think she attracts intelligent and sensitive males as well as intelligent and sensitive females. I think she just attracts sensitive and intelligent people in general, although certainly I'm sure there are some exceptions as there are to any rule. Enough babbling from me....
