They only had $50 000! I know that SEEMS like a lot... but when you're working on a "professional" scale, as they would have been... it's not much money, especially when you consider that many artists spend millions on music videos... Definitely the budget would have limited them to ONE set, and probably only a day to shoot. This means that many of the more "interesting" premises were probably rejected because they would have cost too much to make So, given the confines of the budget, Marcus Efron did basically the smartest thing he could have done - he chose the simplest, easiest premise he could think of and just focussed on making Jewel look absolutely gorgeous... which I think he did quite well. Anyway, everyone knows the video won't get much airplay... but maybe it gave Marcus Efron, who could wind up being quite good, the opportunity to meet a few of the right people and make a few connections and get his name out there a bit. So that makes it worthwhile.. even if the video is a little dull. Steve Ps- I know WWSYS was also filmed on a shoestring and was a much better video.. but then again WWSYS is a much better song with much more inspiring and interesting lyrics... This Way is fairly one dimensional, as a song... so what can you expect from the video? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 23:53:27 -0700 (PDT) From: Christy Subject: [EDA] Jewel in Blender Just wanted to let everyone know that there is a little snippet about Jewel on page 32 of October's Blender magazine. I can't believe they actually are doing something nice in conjunction with Jewel since the only nice thing Maxim/Blender usually has to say is about her boobs... :p Here's what it says: 'Blender Sessions! The new seriews of shows coming to you soon, kicked off by... the ever-lovely Jewel! Whoo! "I really like Blender," Jewel said when she played the inaugural Blender Sessions Show in Los Angeles in July. "All my friends really like it, too." The singer, who has sold 20 million albums in her career, was performing solo at LA's Chrysler House in front of a select audience of 450 to help launch a new series of shows organized by Blender. These Blender Sessions will showcase majore artists performing acoustic sets in intimate venues.' Later!! That's true but I think they should have just donated the $50,000 to some charity or even used it for Clearwater. It would have been put to better use. It's not that the video was bad, it was just pointless. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Sep 2002 13:07:44 -0300 From: "Fabio (wnet)" Subject: [EDA] yeah, This Way is over... Unfortunately, VH1 will not play the This Way video... MTV won't either, of course... from the VH1 message board: >>THIS WAY Video Completed - VH1 won't play it! The contest winner directed a GREAT video. Very sexy/cute. Now VH1 needs us fans to call in and tell them we want to see it. Anybody know a VH1 programmer? by videopro (this guy is always right, so I believe in him) I was presuming it. I remember that VH1 started playing Break Me right after it was finished, and I was wondering why it hasn't started playing TW. So there you go, not to sound cocky or whatever, I think Jewel could learn something from it. STOP RELEASING CRAPPY POP SINGLES!!!! This Way is full of interesting/different songs and she just released the pop stuff... It makes me mad!!! hehe... I go out to local clubs (sometimes) who play this exact kind of music, popular clubs here in FLA and I think it would go over really well....it is hard to differentiate between the several remixes, but i like the ones where all the lyrics are sang. anyone? another note, any southern EDA's traveling up north to see our girl for a couple shows?? Was prepared to dislike it, but I actually liked it. I thought the remix sounded great. True, it's not the most original video in the world and it was kind of cheesy and self-indulgent, but what video/song on pop radio isn't? Jewel looked fabulous and I thought it was very tender and sweet. It captured that longing for things to stay the same with a lover when things are going so well. To have the moment or weeks or whatever frozen in time, in memory. "I want to photograph you with my mind" I like that line. ANyway, it's very sweet and innocent and sexy at the same time, much like Jewel (okay maybe she's not THAT innocent, but very fresh as a summer daisy).
