I don't think this was ever mentioned on the list before, but on last nights' Carson Daly show on NBC when he was talking with Piper Perabo, Carson mentioned to her that two high-profile singers had told him that they had wanted the role that Piper won and that the two singers were Britney Spears and Jewel. Just thought I'd toss that out there. Sure woulda been an interesting role for Jewel, but I think Piper was the right choice (over Jewel anyway) as she had more of a role-fitting youth & innocence look to her back in 1998 when it was filmed. I'd love to see Jewel's audition tape though :-) Mike ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Sep 2002 00:46:02 EDT From: DPS8315@aol.com Subject: [EDA] The EDA Importance My Reply to "Fist Fight at Jewel Show" jhawk16@attbi.com wrote: "This hasn't been mentioned yet and I thought it was kind of cool. Jewel spoke of how she has some real loyal fans who always support her and come to her concerts. No matter what her album sales are, or how a single is charting. I think we have some great debates on what the record label side of Jewel should be doing or could be doing better. But hearing her talk essentially about how she values the EDA's in not so many words I thought said a lot. " Just reading the posts I've noticed that there have been a few incidents from the New Wild West tour where Jewel has recognized the small albeit dedicated following she has developed. Back when I first joined the @smoe list, I felt like I was truly part of this dedicated following, and a lot of that was the result of the closeness that the list portrayed with its object, the lovely Jewel :) Mike posted our member numbers a while back, and they were modest in comparison to the peak, to say the least. If you really think about the raw numbers of people that attended a Jewel concert these past tours, we make up a fairly negligible percentage. Jewel said of the "college boys" in attendence at her Deer Creek 08/07/99 show, "They are few but they are proud." The conclusion I'm trying to come to is whether or not, as a collective, we truly are *important*- On one hand, I've honestly given much consideration to the fact that one of the reasons Jewel might have one of the better major-artist websites is directly related to the fact that her core fans - EDAs, have been web-based for so long. On the other hand, are we actually her "core" fans at all? Back in the JewelStock days, I would say that we certainly were... there was a frieking concert for us right? But I've not heard the EDAs directly mentioned in a very, very long time. I sincerely hope someone can correct me on that second part, and I'm very interested in replies.
