Sure sounds like it. I could name off a ton of similar ones related to Jewel and her fans but that wouldn't really solve anything I guess. And Avril isn't a one hit wonder. Watch TRL sometime and see where Skater Boi is on the countdown. Listen to the radio. While I admit the VMA's preshow wasn't her best performance, it certainly wasn't bad at all. Artists can't perform 100% every single show they do. They're human. And I also happen to know she was just getting over being sick too, so that could have had some affect on her as well. Plus with it raining, I'm sure it wasn't very pleasant singing up there on that balcony. If you had a bad experience then I'm sorry...but I'm sure many of us have at some point in time when it comes to meeting artists or trying to. But just as a flipside to your comments, I know people who've met Avril, and have said the complete opposite of what you just did. That she was a real sweetheart taking time to sign tons of things for the fans. She poses for photos too, I know cause I have some of her with her fans. And I've seen TV segments of her signing things for the fans and answering their questions. So I guess whoever said she was rude and nasty must NOT have met her -- to correct your first sentence. If you want to see an outstanding performance of Avril and her band, check out MTV's Rock n Roll Hall of Fame show that she did. ~Stacey~ >RE: AVRIL---Whoever said she's rude and nasty-you MUST have met her--cause >she wont sign autographs or pose for photos and she sounded AWFUL "live" on >the VMA's--rain or no rain--this was one of the worst live performances I >ever saw--she ruioned Sk8er Boy.....One song Wonder at this point should >NOT >be mean or rude to anyone , let alone fans--and i am not talking about >where >ethere are 100 people trying to get close to her--i mean one or 2 >people--she >IGNORES you. Personal emails are for personal conversations. Instant Messengers are for personal conversations. Telephones are for personal conversations. An email list with a mass number of people, however, is not. If you'd like to bash someone, bash them. Not bash them and have everyone on the list watch. Courtney ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Sep 2002 11:19:35 -0600 From: "Stacey Hamilton" Subject: [EDA] freedom of expression Just to let everyone know, I've contacted Tanya and have politely asked her not to CC the entire list every time she sends me what appears to be a private e-mail. >First of all, I didn't know you were the moderator and my "bashing" >Avril wasn't half as offensive as what you've written to me. - -------------- I'm not, so maybe you should ask him then, or just read the list etiquette rules. >It's not fair to me or any of us if only positive things are >written on this list. The list will become somewhat dull and no one >will >ever be able to hear the flip side of anything. Giving someone only >positive promotion is like lying. You can't make >someone appear flawless. - ------------------ I do agree with the above very much, but unfortunately I have no control over the guidelines established for the list. I can only abide by them. We all know Jewel has quite a number of flaws, yet whenever someone mentions that they get bashed. But it's ok to bash other artists? Seems like a double standard to me. >And you shouldn't block out all the bad things you hear about your >favorite artists because then you are admiring them blindly and > >contributing to their wealth and popularity when they could be really > >bad people. - ------------- I agree with this too. This pertains to all artists. >Which is why both the good and bad characteristics in someone should >be >brought up so that we can all make better decisions. - -------------- You are right. But again I have no control over the guidelines of the list. I wish things like this could be discussed on the list without people getting upset all the time. >Also, don't tell me to do something productive because I don't consider >writing positive statements exactly productive either. I believe in > >freedom of speech but I don't believe in being rude. - -------------------------------- Well being that 99% of everything written on the list about Jewel is positive, are you saying that all those people aren't productive then? If not, then what are you saying? I believe in freedom of speech too. >But I will never be okay with someone who chooses to ignore reality. >I'll >generally keep my mouth shut though if that is what they want to >do. >Avril doesn't need defense and her attitude shows that she >doesn't care >what other people think of her anyway. - --------------------------- I'll never be ok with someone who chooses to ignore reality either. But what is this regarding? >I think your reply was more about pride and defending your favorite > >artists. - -------------------------- No my reply was about being allowed to bash some artists and not others. I mean either we need to be able do this with everyone, or not be allowed to for anyone. One or the other. I thought it was the latter, but lately it doesn't appear that way. >And although, I'm sure we'd all like a peaceful list, controversy is >what >gets people to write in and stay interested. Controversy sells >and >opinions should not be oppressed. - -------------- I agree. But I don't believe this applies to the Jewel list. It's all about having a peaceful environment to interact in. Anything of a controversial nature should be voiced in another forum. _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #407 ***************************
