I saw Jewel on Saturday night. My girlfriend and I had planned this trip very last minute, so I bought whatever tickets were left on ticketmaster a few weeks ago, it was a waste. I spent $93 on two seats at the far back, and walking up to the concert hall on Saturday a guy offers me 7th row center for $30 each, so I take him up on that, didn't even think twice. I sold my ticketmaster seats for $15 each and went into the show. They were great seats, I could see perfectly. Stuart Mathis opened up, he was really good, I bought his cd and met him and got him to sign it and I told him that he rocked on the This Way tour, and that he sounded really good solo. Jewel came out looking gorgeous, played a bunch of great songs, read the setlist in a few days to find out. Her brother Nikos (or something like that?) was there. The stories were hilarious, I really liked the Race Car Driver story. She told a very long story about she and Poltz in Mexico with drugs and guns and all kinds of stuff... very funny. I got the second half of that story in Austin on the This Way tour, and the first half in Portland on the NWW tour. She had her signature Taylor up there, and played about 4 songs on that (it was in open D). Then she played most of the songs on her other Taylor... the plain looking one. She also had the really cool custom Gibson up there, but never played it. Overall, it was an incredible concert and a great weekend. I spent the whole weekend in Portland... a beautiful city, saw the Rose gardens and ate great food, and bought Chasing Down the Dawn at Powell's city of books. I highly recommend vacationing there if you have never been. That's it for now Chris ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Sep 2002 04:31:32 -0400 (EDT) From: Marcus Ngo Subject: [EDA] About the OST of Sweet Home Alabama Hi, I'm on the mailinglist of Hollywood Records, cause I'm a big BBMak fan. And on the mailinglist it was a section called 'coming soon': - - Soundtrack for Reese Witherspoon's upcoming "Sweet Home Alabama" featuring music from: Jewel, Avril Lavigne, Sheryl Crow, SHeDAISY, and more! Isn't this great? I wish that Jewel will make a video for this song and have it as a single. This CAN be the biggest comeback for her and maybe she will now be very famous all around the world! I hope so... :o) */Marcus Ngo ______________________________________________________ Hdr bvrjar Internet! I really recommend the all acoustic "Colma" album. It is a great somber album dedicated to his parents made when his mother was sick with cancer. For some of his more heavy stuff you can probably find Giant Robot or Monsters and Robots rather easily but the rest of his stuff is harder to find...and would probably have to be ordered from the internet. http://www.tdrsmusic.com/ is the place to look. Its like... Steve Poltz.. kinda. I love his version of YWMFM!! Almost more than Jewels. Everytime i talk about it though, around my family, they get mad at me 'cause they don't like him! :( They said if Jewel had never released it, and Steve had, then it wouldn't have been as popular! :( I don't really care, i love it! :D Alisa... you HAVE to send me a clip of Skippy singing!! :D - --Jewel Worshiper-- http://www.angelfire.com/sk/killorgeteven/pale_shade_of_grey.html (my Jewel Page) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Why are we afraid to be in love?" I need a copy if so!!! :) Dammit, that voice of hers has really improved over the years eh? It was nice to hear some of the old songs, and the new and impressive things she can do with them. As i posted earlier, i just moved to NY a week ago, and so had to miss Jewel at Bumbershoot in Seattle. Moving to the east now effectively made me miss all the Jewel concerts. BUT, my sister went to the concert last night and held up her cell phone while i listened outside of the dorms here, across the country. It was amazing. I missed the first three songs, but after that she sang Sometimes it be that way, Little sister, you were meant for me, near you always, pieces of you, jesus loves you, the new wild west, foolish games, who will save your soul, and chime bells. Maybe there was more, but i'm in a bit of a hurry and can't try to remember more. The concert was very short though, since it's part of a festival not its own concert. It was mainly very POY heavy, which was awesome because she has improved all of the songs so much, which makes sense, she's been singing them for long enough! Especially who will save your soul, oh my god, even over crappy cell phone reception that was jaw dropping. The funniest part was when she was making fun of elimadate, then sang Jesus loves you and changed the lyric to "showing ta tas on elimadate is ok". Has she done that more than once? (i know our Jewel loves to repeat stories) So, that's it. It's funny this basically turned into a concert review of a concert i didn't see, i just really wanted to tell you all about that experience. It was really wonderful, one of the first times i've cried in happiness in a long time. It made all the college stress seem so much more doable. Well, love to all! Maggie PS if ANYONE taped this show/has pictures/knows the setlist ANYTHING, i would be so appreciative. i've never been much of a collector, but PLEASE e-mail me privately, perhaps we can work something out. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #404 ***************************
