Seventeen insulted Jewel! Okay, so I'm reading the September issue of Seventeen (with Julia Stiles on the cover) and I see this! "Cool music girls: Meet six chicks who march to their own beat." The caption read for an artist named Neko Case, "Sounds like: If Jewel suffered a concussion and woke up cool, she might be able to make music this moving." Uck. All the other artists did not have any negative remarks except this one. I'm definately writing an email to the editors. It's a small thing, but why does a "cool girls" article have to belittle another cool girl artist? She really got back into her old roots. I have really missed her acoustic setting and I really saw why tonight. The theater was not too large and she seemed so comfortable. She talked back to the audience a few times and also told several of her stories. Being that I in the middle of a road trip across the country, I'm in a new motel every night so I can't possibly post that much, but I can at least give a rundown of the songs performed, in no particular order..... Some people claim that jewel performed them but I have serious doubts about that. The following song are the ones I have my doubts about: - - American pie - - Bizarre Love Triangle - - Black day - - Cornflake - - Curtain fall - - Leaving - - Let the sun shine in - - Cranes (live on the radio) - - Little drummer boy - - Mother - - The man who's already gone (I have got this one, only the title is wrong here) - - I don't want to be loved by anyone but you (I have got this one , only the title is wrong here) Someone who's sure that one or more songs listed weren't (or were) performed by Jewel please respond. The caption read for an artist > named Neko Case, "Sounds like: If Jewel suffered > a concussion and woke up cool, she might be able > to make music this moving." Neko isn't very much like Jewel. Well, I mean aside from being a rather independent and spirited young woman. Neko (at least lately -- she has punk roots (well "cuddlecore" punk bands like cub and Maow) sounds more like Patsy Cline. I suppose though that a lot more of Seventeen's demographic would know who Jewel is as opposed to Patsy Cline. Neko's songwriting is touching and heart-felt in an entirely different way than Jewel's. I would recommend Neko's albums though, if you like old-style country, they _are_ cool. (She also appears with Carolyn Mark as The Corn Sisters -- and even more tangentially, Carolyn Mark's new album is pretty darn good). As to why this happens, well, the press builds and artist up, then tries to tear them down. Its not nice, but such cattiness is the stuff that sells dead trees. Following the acoustic tour, Jewel will tour in November and perhaps in January and February. Then, she says, it's back to the studio for more recording. That made me angry. I don't understand why they would insult her when in previous issues, they have shown they really liked her. I don't like teen magazines anymore. I threw most of them away because they bug me. They write that it doesn't matter how much you weigh. And then in the back of every issue, they advertise model agencies and "fat camps." Ugh. Great show last night! I had to go by myself :( which kind of sucked, but I wore my EDA shirt and no one came up to me. Ah well. Scooter Sedaris (sp??) is AWESOME!! You must download his songs, buy his CD, or whatever. He's got an Eddie Vedder voice, w/ a Jewel message. He rocked. I went out to get a CD and to get it signed, but they sold out. Ugh. But Jewel was incredible as always. Same stories, but I love them anyway. I was incredibly emotional that night because I'm moving on Thursday, so some songs literally made me cry, and I was so embarassed because I was by myself! I don't remember the setlist exactly, but it was all that standards, plus Does anyone believe in love anymore, life uncommon, what's simple is true, til we run out of road, passing time, too darn hot... etc etc. We'll get a setlist soon. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me someone recorded the show. I really really hope someone did. I would have, but I'm waaaay ignorant about that sort of technology. Also did anyone stay after to get things signed? I was going to but I had no idea what entrance/exit to check out, so I just headed back to the hotel. Anyone record it??? Hey guys, Fortunately, I was able to attend this unforgetable show last night. I won't say much about the performance because others have already covered it pretty well. However, someone did ask if anyone stayed after to see Jewel exit, which I did. She came out only about 15-20 minutes after the show, which was great being a waited a good 30-45 minutes after the Houston show. As soon as she came out, she made the announcement that she would try to sign one thing per person because she had to catch a flight. She patiently signed about 15 things, including my NWA book and I then shook her hand. She was very friendly and humble as she was in my last experience of meeting her. She then walked to the van which was taking her to the airport, waved and told everyone goodbye and thanked us for coming, got in the van, waved goodbye again, and she was gone. Now, I have a favor to ask. I saw several people video recording the show, and i'm sure there were others getting audio recordings. So by chance, would anyone of those people happen to be an EDA who be so kind as to trade that recording with me? I got some great pictures of her as she was signing things and many CDs to trade if at all interested. But if you recorded this show, I would truely appreciate a copy of it!
