Unless you're going to tell me Mergle Haggard, Sepultura, Charlotte Church, Rammstein, and Snoop Dogg are all "the same music". LOL That was my only point...that what she said wasn't entirely true. - ------------------------- > >And...Jewel does get played often on the "Mix" stations. Sunday night: Vanessa Carlton, Third Eye Blind and the Goo Goo Dolls. First off, John Mayer is an extremely talented person. His guitar playing completely blew me away, and that boy knows how to jam. I was slightly disappointed with this concert though. And sadly, it had nothing to do with John at all. Basically, I was with a group of people that were just "ho-hum" about being there. I get INTO concerts, so I would have been perfectly fine standing for an hour or so during the opening acts waiting for John to come out, so we would have places to stand in the front. But we walked around for a while and didn't join the concert crowd until right before John came out. That left us closer to the back, by the beer stand, with people who couldn't care less about who was on stage. I could hear the songs, but when John talked to the crowd, I couldn't understand a word he said. General admission sucks. Especially when you're in the back and a really really really tall boy is in front of you. Ugh. But John Mayer is officially a cutey and one of the most talented musicians I've come across. I admire his music so much. I could marry him... :) The way we both think is so synchronized (based upon his lyrics). I think we're soulmates... ha. Ok, now onto the Goo Goo Dolls. Actually the openers, first: Vanessa Carlton was good. I wasn't expecting much, but she can really rock out and her piano playing is very admirable. Her lead guitarist is so damn attractive as well. Third Eye Blind was next and I didn't know how many songs I knew until they started playing. During this, we moved over in our row to be in the center, so the (freaking hot) lead singer was pretty focused on our area. It was sooooo much fun. They're very good on stage. Almost got a pick and a drum stick, but missed both. I was very sad (not really). Then it was the Goo Goo Dolls. DAMN!!! Johnny Reznik (sp??) has always been attractive, but never so freaking sexy! I will be having his babies. We had to move back to our actual seats for this part, but they were still amazing, just slightly to the left (5th row though!!!!) Johnny was working our side of the stage though. He was always over there on guitar riffs and such, and his smile is to die for. The music was amazing, though (I'm getting off my hormonal soap-box... damn, I must have been thinking every boy there was attractive.... but I am a sucker for funky musicians.....drool....) They didn't play "Acoustic #3", but I would have been highly suprised if they had. The playlist could not have been better though-- they mixed old with new seamlessly. Bottom line: the second best concert I've been to. (Number 1 will always be NashBash) There were no weaknesses. I highly highly recommend going to either of these tours if they're coming by you. Definitely worth the money. Sorry it's so long, but thanks for reading :) Take care, ~Rachel~ _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Aug 2002 12:21:08 -0500 From: "Rachel DeSchepper" Subject: [EDA] VH1 All Access This morning, VH1 had a segment on their All Access show about touring and Jewel was interviewed shortly. For the past couple of months I could of sworn this list had changed into an Avril Lavigne/General pop list !!!!! Don't get me wrong, I actually like Avril Lavigne and the only reason I own her CD is because of the shear number of EDA's who talked about her (she is very much unknown here in the UK so far......), but I was just wondering what has happened to all the old school Jewel fans ?? I feel increasingly like a fish out of water and that Mike's list is morphing into something it was never intended to be - a (dare I say it) kiddies squabble list. This is by no means directed at everyone, as I know a lot you are long time members and just as big a fans of Jewel as I am myself. I just feel disappointed when I go to check my email and some days half of the messages aren't even about Jewel or are a select few emailing to say "Vote Jewel USA's/World's/Universe's sexist female" as if that is where her only talents lie. Please don't hate me, but I just had to get that off my chest !!!!!!!!!! Now to totally contradict what I just said, have any of you had the chance to listen to any of Jess Kleins music ?? I can't remember seeing her name mentioned on the list here before (or if it was it must of been quite a while ago), but I've only recently got to hear her stuff and she is one talented lady !! If you only get the chance to check out one other Jewel'esque artist this week/month/year, give her a listen. Her old(ish) album "Flattery" reminds me a lot of Jewel in her Innerchange days ......................... And she talked about how she was on a photo shoot and the woman that picks out her clothes asked her what size she was.. and she said.. "Uhmm what size is Ashley Judd..heh.. Oh really.. I'm the size smaller." Lol of course.. I would pick that out. I thought it was cute though! Just figured, I would let everyone know. What is everyone's fav. joke or quotes of jewel's? This list seems to be getting younger. I joined back in late '96, barely missing Jewelstock. Now, I'm old and feeling older as the once 7 and 8 year olds of '96 are part of the list. It may seem like there aren't much of the old school EDAs left, but there are. I think the reason why they aren't posting as much as before is because a lot of the things that are discussed now on the list by the younger EDA's have already been discussed years ago by the older EDAs. What more can old school EDAs say? The same thing regurgitated over and over again? This is not all bad, though. This gives a chance to the newer and younger EDAs to voice their opinion, post comments, and ask questions, while us old schoolers just sit back and just watch the newbies go at it.
