Craig is the best, cause he always interviews the musical guests. The performance was great! She was so funny!! She really should be a comedian. The audience was much better than on the audience on Leno. Mark is hott! If not, maybe someone can make a tape? I don't have much to trade, but I can certainly cover your costs. Thanks. :) Hmm... while I'm at it, I missed the live TV performance of TNWW (on Conan?) a few months ago - if someone has both and can make me a tape of them, that would be AWESOME! Shouldn't the purpose of the SoulCity missions to help the actual artists that make up SoulCity. I mean I know it is kind of tough after Atlantic kicked off the headliners, but still - I didn't realize the SoulCity was going to become another way to the JewelJK street team. And as a continuation to the whole "same type of music" and "radio stations suck" discussion. Here are my two thoughts: (a) most radio stations always sucked. Creed is just this decade's Journey. As long as I can remember stations played the the top 40 and not much else. It isn't like they just got this way last year. For the most part college radio drives the market anyway. Pop stations follow the hits about 4-6 months behind them. (b) How much more, unusual, off-beat music do we need? We can't make mega-stars out of everyone. Really there are thousands of acts out there in the singer/songwriter genre - do we have to feel bad if not everyone one of them is the next Branch or Carlton? I mean it is tough enough to keep up with the steady stream of new acts now ... why do we feel the need to add more? == Rob == ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Aug 2002 16:43:46 -0300 From: "FabioJJ" Subject: [EDA] Edify Hey! For the most part college The difference was that back then, you had heavy rotation (same) medium rotation (about the same) and light rotation, which is basically the rest of the station's catalog. In the old days, this was piles of things that could be drawn upon according to a DJ's whim. Even in medium rotation, the station's own music director would make decisions on songs one at a time. In the modern radio model, you buy your playlists from a research company. You get one or more CDs which contain everything you're putting into rotation. The DJ is some poor slob who gets 15 seconds an hour to express a personality and pretend to be taking requests. In reality they answer every request call with "okay, I'll get on that" and of course most requests are for songs that were in heavy or medium rotation anyway, so most audiences never notice. The 89% majority may be the same, but that last 11% makes all the difference in the world to an unsigned act, or even one out of favor with the hip and trendy. Don't get me started on the "good old days" of college radio, especially since it wasn't that long ago for me. :) Ray Wong PO BOX 6163 negativl at best.com, negativl at rayw.com Hayward, CA 94540-6163 Member #11537, Deborah Gibson International Fan Club Co-Founder and Charter Member, Sutton Foster International Fan Club ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Aug 2002 18:13:45 EDT From: PENNY16161@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Fall Tour Dates!
