I was doing some genealogy researches in internet and I found some pages speaking about Jewel's grandfather, Yule Kilcher. He was very known and important, and we can see that talent passes on through the family. I was reading some passages in Chasing Down the Dawn and at the beginning Jewel says she was already recognized like a Kilcher because she have some characteristic, like her nose, for example. And she says she isn't a singer without reasons, her grandmother studied opera, was journalist and poet and others ancestors had some special talent, too, so much so that they taught each other music and languages (Yule spoke 8 languages and dialects of each one). I know this subject of genealogy can't fascinate the most part of people, but I'm trying to get the origin of the Kilcher surname and its lineage. I'm not sure if it's from Switzerland or Germany or any another country with german language... it's a long time work, at now I have this: Yule Kilcher (born 09 march 1913, died 1998) married Ruth (what would be her maiden name?). Children: Mairiis Kilcher Wurtila Kilcher Fay Kilcher Mossy Kilcher Atz Kilcher married Lenedra Carroll (born 1950), children: Jewel (1974), Shane (1971) and Atz Kilcher Jr.(1977) Yule had 8 children, 23 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and I know almost anything. So I decided to send this message to ask if someone knows more about Jewel's family, or saw some page, something like this... I'm not sure but Jewel have some "half-brother" ?? (I mean a brother only for her dad's side)... Well... I don't have many information, you can laugh... :o) But the beginning is always at this way in genealogy... If someone knows something, my private e-mail is jeweljk@uol.com.br . I'd be grateful if someone can help me, we can exchange information and I have some online reports to send if someone wants... I'm just wondering...I've been a collector of various Jewel appearances on video tape for a few years now. I have her on many talk shows, and a few different concerts on VHS. I'd REALLY like to get any tapes of her current This Way tour...althuogh I know that might be hard to find since video cameras are so rare to get inside a venue. Almost all the sites listed there are pop stations. The pop stations don't even hace the single yet to play it. I will probably be able to make either the show in Des Moines or Sioux City. If anyone has some good seats available extra, or you can can't go, please let me know. If not, I will just purchase some from ticketmaster. But I would like to sit close, so I'd rather not call ticketmaster, as I have already checked what's available. Thanks! Print version with photo...]] http://usaweekend.com/celebs/whos_news/index.html Q: Ty Murray is the reason I watched rodeo on TV, but he's gone. Where is he? Also, is he still dating Jewel? Barbara Strine, Spencerport, N.Y. A: Murray, 32, retired from bull riding. He's running cattle on his ranch in Stephenville, Texas, sitting on $3 million in earnings he says he has no idea how to spend. "I'm content right now just being at the ranch and riding colts and looking after my cows," he tells us. (Asked about other interests, he says, "What do you mean? Like fishing?") The "King of the Cowboys" and singer Jewel, 28, are still together after four years but have no plans to wed. "Marriage scares both of us, because of the statistics," Murray says. Jewel is away on tour now (despite a broken rib and collarbone she suffered when a horse bucked her on the ranch in April), but Murray has company; his parents moved into a house he built for them on the property in 2001. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 16:56:56 EDT From: Spirit1924@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Jewel ringtones~ Hey angels, Sorry, I know the Jewel ringtones were talked about b4, but my cell didn't work then so I didn't pay attention. She was fantastic and I'll always remember her show as the first one I hosted. One day she'll play at my place again, but this time it'll be a real venue. (: Thanks to everyone who attended as well. I'm very glad you all could make it. Thanks to Rowdy for putting it all together. Now, on to the Jewel shows. Once again, Jewel has really shown me why I believe in her so much. She's the best. That's all there is to it. Steve Poltz showed up at the Austin show too and played a few songs with JK. He was on top of his game...those couple of songs he did with Jewel were the best I've ever seen him. They both seemed very happy to be singing together again. Well...I guess that's it...I suppose I'll see Jewel in another year or two. Now it's back to the dreadful, empty existence of not having Jewel to look forward to. JK is da sh*t, - - Wilcher. ps....I'm an M2M supporter, but I can see why whoever dropped them might've done it. I can imagine them getting a lot of heat from the crowd. I noticed rude crowd reactions even at the Houston show with Think of England or whatever they were called. That's just part of the game...Jewel used to get heckled too. Honestly, the opener was pretty horrible and the reaction although rude, was warranted in my opinion. But that's just me! I probably don't think anyone's fit to open for Jewel...I wish it was just Poltz. That would work best. Anyway...time to shutup. It was a great venue, brand new, and the perfect place to see jewel. It was a great show, Atz was really cool to see and jewel was perfect. Hearing her scream at the end of till we run out of road was absolutely amazing.... she can scream with the best of the hard rock/metal lead singers. That was my first time to hear violet eyes and the other woman. Violet eyes was a beautiful song, maybe someday I will get a copy of that song. Hearing jewel sing The other woman was just like hearing a professional jazz singer. WOW. Then I went to Austin to see jewel for my second time... It was a really good show as well, it was really hot, which makes it hard to like it better than Dallas, but Poltz showed up and Jewel talked more to the crowd and she was hilarious. I saw Atz walking around through the crowd before the show, and he played the yo song again with Jewel. She sounded great once again, though I think the Dallas show sounded better. She was definitely having more fun in Austin. I yelled for Last Dance Rodeo both nights, and she had to have heard me. I knew she wouldn't play it, but maybe in a couple of shows we will see it on the setlist. :) In Dallas, someone held up a banner for nicotine love and she told the crowd to wait til the solo tour to hear that one... she has to "brush up on it". Sorry to the EDA's I was supposed to meet. I got to the Dallas show late, and it was already dark inside so there was no way to see anyone. Then, I got stuck in Dallas and couldn't make it to the LRC in Austin on Sunday, I really wanted to though, oh well maybe next time. Uhmmm, thanks for reading this if you have gotten all the way to here. Sorry if it was boring, I am not a writer, I'll shut up now. :) Chris ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #345 ***************************
