I'm packing up and getting out of this hot, hot city. Headed to my parents' log cabin the Catskills where it'll be cooler and the air will be much fresher. And there's culture, too...we'll be going to plays in Chatham and in the Berkshires...ahhhhhhhhh yes this city is way too darn hot right now...kinda like the Jewel cover "IT's too darn hot...." that's how it is right now even with A.C. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Jul 2002 00:37:05 -0400 From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: [EDA] intro to LMJLMA Wow... Stuart's intro to LMJLMA from the Philly show was totally different to the Toronto show two days later. In Toronto it was shorter... he did some rhythmic thing and Jewel was like "Do you guys like rock and roll?".. it was kinda funny. I have to say I agree with Scott - the new band is REALLY good. The more they play together, it seems, the better they get. It seems like Jewel is really into them too. During T-Bone's bass solo at the Toronto show she went up into the drummer's little section and was like running her hands through his hair.. and then doing the same with the guitarist guy. I think she likes having "the boys".. it's kinda funny. We sat in the eighth row from the stage, but all the way on the left. My boyfriend is not a Jewel fan (he's mostly into heavy metal), but he got us tickets for our anniversary. Yes, they thoroughly checked my bag and thoroughly checked my boyfriend's jacket pockets. They frisked both of us. I'm glad I did not attempt any cameras or recording devices. Anyway, first she played with the band: I Won't Walk Away, Standing Still, Do You Want to Play, Jesus Loves You, Hands, Till We Run Out of Road, This Way, and What's Simple is True Then, solo acoustic: Morning Song (she asked Morning Song or Little Sister and we voted Morning Song), Cold Song (my boyfriend loved that one), Break Me, and You Were Meant for Me Again, with the band: Life Uncommon, Down So Long, Serve the Ego, Love Me Just Leave Me Alone, Everybody Needs Someone Sometime, New Wild West, and Who Will Save Your Soul Encore: Foolish Games (just Jewel and the keyboardist), The Other Woman (full band), and Chime Bells (a capella) I was most disappointed that: 1) the only THIS WAY song she did NOT play (not counting the "bonus tracks") was my favorite (Cleveland) and 2) the keyboardist playing the cello part in The New Wild West sounded so fake (even though the keyboard was on a "cello" setting). Also, the audience wasn't excited enough. Jewel even said that the New Jersey crowd was rowdier (she commented "I didn't think that was possible"). The people who knew all the words (like me) were in the center and I felt that my good seats were just not good enough. The couple next to me only knew the POY songs, and when it ended they commented, "well, this was nothing like I expected". Bottom line: Jewel was awesome as always. Next time I need to get even closer! I hope she adds some solo shows to the east coast... Thanks, ~Patricia :-) P.S. Sorry for the long post. Hope this hot summer (100 farenheit here) is going well for all of you! ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #312 ***************************
