"Essentially" and what he said are still two different things. The way he phrased it left it to question if he was saying that it bothered him about people being gay or something else... Yet, several people immediately assumed the worse of him and he was accused of being homophobic. No one bothered to ask him to clarify himself, just jumped right on his back. Despite my jests in my other posts, that really bothers me. He apologized, did any of the accusers? As for to just stop talking about the "gay" issue... Why? Why can't we have a friendly, open conversation about this? Maybe some of the people out "in the boonies" will learn something, or maybe the city folk will learn to be as open minded as they pretend to be.... By the way, I'm from the boonies.... For those of you wondering what this is, you can see a brief history/explanation of the event at the end of this email - this is mostly taken from the Bearsville gathering page for 2000. Camping is basically $9 per night per person. Attendees so far include: (I hope I didn't forget anyone...) Rob, Tammy, Ahmetia & Katerina Campbell Tom & Rachel O'Brien Tom & Tiffany Proven Laura & Jon Ted Berberian Mike Connell (maybe for his customary 6 hours ;-) Bill Bartholomew Chris Moynihan Dan & Leif Amy Neufield Eric Montas (at least one day) Erica Covallo Kelly Gallagher Gina & Cheyenne (a friend of Gina's) Iris (maybe) Please let me know if you would like to be added or removed from my list.... Hope to hear from many of you soon :-) There is also a list set up for attendees to email amongst themselves, so, to subscribe to the new list, send an email to majordomo@smoe.org... with either subscribe bv end or subscribe bv-digest end or subscribe bv subscribe bv-digest end And all the usual subsequent reply stuff and you'll be in. Some of the attendees plan to arrive on Thursday, with the majority coming on Friday - Did you guys notice by the way, that the days fall on the exact JewelStock dates this year, so if you arrive on Thursday, it truly is the JewelStock anniversary :-) Well, after this email, I will mainly only be posting to the BV list, so be sure to subscribe if you're planning to attend!!! Hugs! Tammy :-) OK, What bands have you got lined up and how much are the tickets? No no no....this ain't that kinda Woodstock event. This is just a little ol' EDA gathering that was born in 1997 and has developed into an annual event to enable the subscribers of our Jewel fandom community to get together and hang out for a peaceful fun weekend in the lovely Catskill Mountains of New York State. Basically, it's as simple as this. Many folks believe the Jewel list was really "spiritually" born when Hiranya first announced JewelStock in early June 1996. (Hiranya was then the lists' main contact with Jewel and her management, as she worked for Jewel in the office) The JewelStock event itself was quite special, and many friendships were formed during those three days in Woodstock/Bearsville in July 1996. Since then many "EDA gatherings" have happened, arguably due to JewelStock, with most of them occurring without Jewel anywhere near the place (i.e. EDA gatherings generally are not featured around a concert of Jewel's, although some are). Five years ago, as the first anniversary of JewelStock rolled around, the idea for a major reunion/campout/EDA gathering in the Woodstock/Bearsville area surfaced, thus Bearsville 97 was born. The next summer we had Bearsville 98. After much intense brainstorming via conference calls, we decided to name last years' event Bearsville 99. Sticking with tradition. while adding two digits, this years will be known as Bearsville 2002. BV 97, through BV2001 were rousing successes, as over 30 people attended at various times of the events. These times musical entertainment was not part of the events, and it wasn't needed, as list members pretty much hung out and had fun, took in the Catskill Mountains, went to Woodstock to be hippies for a day, partook in other activities such as Tubing and Horseback Riding and last year a few of us went to a 'beach'... - not to mention attempting to get us booted from the campgrounds with fireworks... Let's see, who brought those?? Ahem.... Dennis??? ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Jul 2002 15:30:59 -0700 (PDT) From: Holly Miller Subject: [EDA] HOW DO I UNSUBSCRIBE?? "Q. If you had a time machine, where would you go? A. It's hard to pick. I would've loved to be around Socrates, I guess. It was a great time in history, the rise of the intellect and science and mysticism hadn't all been separated out yet. Q. Who's the best stage act you ever saw? A. I'd say (Bruce) Springsteen. I've never seen many live shows so Im probably not qualified, but I'd say Springsteen is the real deal. I like musicians that don't need fancy light shows to keep you entertained. Q. Would you ever have cosmetic surgery? A. I'm only 28, so it's easy for me to say no. I have terrible teeth and a big nose and a million things wrong with me but...I don't want to hurt myself. It doesn't excite me to think of putting myself through pain. The other thing is I can't help but feel responsible because I'm in the public eye. I know little kids look at Cher and want to remove ribs because she did. It's like a bit selfish. Personally I'm one of those kids that always looked at fashion magazines and felt bad about myself. I don't want to add to it, but check in with me when I'm 50. Q. What's the sexiest part of a man's body? A. Depends on the man. Really. Every man's body is different. I think one of my favorite things about my boyfriend's body is his biceps. Q. What's your favorite sports team? A. I guess I'd say the PBR. The PBR is the Professional Bull Riders, and it's just bull-riding. They tour around the country, and they sell out 20,000 seats every weekend. It's the most extreme and exciting sport, and the hardest sport. It takes more skill to stay on those animals because you have to make a counter-move for every move the bull makes. There's so much torque and pressure and danger involved. The men have bodies like gymnists. Q. When was the last time you were in a church? A. I frequent cathedrals as much as I can. I'm a real freak for them. I'm not catholic, or Chritian for that matter, but I love churches. I love being inside of them. I love empty churches. But I also love seeing people who are focused on themselves all week focus on something else for a day. I think it's healthy. Q. How often do you vote? A. Last year was the first time I voted for a presidential campaign actually. Before that, I felt like a lot of kids feel, which is, what's the point? Last year, I felt really differently about it. I fought really hard for Gore. If last year didn't show you how much a few votes count, no year will. Q. What's the best time you ever had on New Year's Eve? A. I think a couple years ago. I was camping with Ty and we wrote a song that's on my new record that's called "Till We Run Out Of Road." He'd never written a song before. So it was sort of teaching somebody how to write a song while writing one with them." Jewel July 2nd, 10pm at the Harley Davidson Roadhouse...see you there! I was out of town all weekend, but I got back today, so me and my fellow Jewel fan-friends decided to go downtown and look for her! We started out by going to the hotel where most celebs stay - The Phister. We say 3 tour buses, but couldn't tell who's they were. Finally, in one of them, there was a tour schedule in view. One of them days said something about the B.E.T. Awards, so we concluded that it was that of Alicia Keys, who's amphitheater tour kicks off here tomorrow. We then went to the Wyndam (that's probably not spelled right!!!) hotel, next to city hall and the PAC. There were buses out front, and one of them had a Jewel backstage pass hanging in the front!!!!!! On the door it also had a sticker that said "Clothing Optional Beyond This Point". We took pictures in front of it, and then went into the hotel, where the bellboy told us that, yes, Jewel was here, and no, we couldn't see her. We then hung around outside the PAC for a few hours, and met 2 people on the tour crew. They were nice. We then realized that we weren't going to meet Jewel today, but are hopiing to tommorrow!!! Can't wait till tommorrow's concert!!! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Jul 2002 21:45:34 -0500 From: Amber Subject: Re: [EDA] Music in High Places Does anyone have a list of who all has been on this show so far?
