It's just not a big hit... Greetings to all EDAs, I'm glad that Jewel is continually selling out her concerts and appearances. I just want to inform all of you that "Break Me" did not flop here in the Philippines. It's just not a hit with the masses, but the major adult contemporary/r n' b/rock stations play her a lot, and her songs have been requested a lot. Like for example, in the station 97.1 WLSFM - which plays a lot of cool foreign music (it plays a mixture of boybands, pop, rock, r n' b, dance, all the popular genres except country and heavy metal and jazz and classical)... , "Break Me" hit #1 for a week... That is because it was #1 for 6 consecutive days in the Daily top 20 at 12... Eminem's "Without Me" is now the current no.1 song, "Without Me" beat her two weeks ago... Well, in other stations, here are her peak positions in its individual weeklies: 93.1 -- #15 99.5 RT -- #15 89,9 - #9 "STanding Still" was played in about 6 stations here, out of the 24 stations in Manila... "Break Me" was played in 5 of those stations... These 6 stations however, are the only stations which do not purely indulge in the mainstream pop and Filipino music played by 10 other stations. The following 8 stations play specific types of music: 87.5 -- Jazzy beats 88.3 -- Jazzy beats 89.1 -- Jazzy beats/Some mainstream music 96.3 -- Light rock and classic pop and love songs 98.7 -- Classical music 106.7 -- World Music/Latin beats 107.5 -- Hard Rock/Heavy Metal 108.3 -- Harcore Rap Music Thus, i must admit that she is not so famous here, not so famous as britney, enrique, eminem and the gang... But she does get a bit of rotation in the more sophisticated and artsy circles, plus she gets rotation in MTV and MYX (although quite limited). But i believe, that any true blue music fan who is exposed to different types of music and who gets a daily dose of mainstream and non-mainstream music will surely get to hear Jewel... The masses don't know her here and don't give a shit... And that for me, sucks... because... I love Jewel... Sincerely yours, Magno S. Dearest EDAs, Do you know that i have spent some nights thinking, "Why can't they give her that damned Grammy?". when in fact, she really deserves one, right? I just hope and pray that she gets nominated for Best POp Female Vocal Performance for "standing Still" or "this Way", and let her win instead of, perhaps, Michelle Branch or Vanessa Carlton or Avril Lavigne... I really think that this is the right time for the RIAA to look at Jewel as the girl who deserves praise for her contributions to music... What do you think, people? Will she get nominated, or will she win? Please tell me... A Filipino EDA, Magno S. I was at Jones Beach, and she played 3 songs solo, she said that she was in pain, so I understand, but I'm disappointed. I drove 8 hours to see the concert, and I didn't get to see much of the Jewel I fell in love with. The show was great, my non-fan boyfriend said he'd go to another show of hers, but I was dying to hear some lesser known songs. I wore my EDA Got Wings shirt, hoping someone would notice and talk to me, but seeing how I was up in no man's land, I'm sure most of the people around me were not EDA's. Well there's still hope for the solo acoustic, isn't there? Please tell me dates are still coming, even better if there's one in Rochester, or Buffalo, or Syracuse and anywhere in between. I'd even head down to Long Island again if it meant solo Jewel. I wish I had the money and time to see more shows, especially the solo shows, but I'm a poor student, so I have to be happy with the cheap seats I had at Jones Beach. Well enough of my rambling. I thought I had read on the site that all the shows were set. Meaning, no more are going to be added. If this isn't true, then someone let us know cause I haven't heard otherwise from an offical source. I thought the last time we got the official updated list of cities, that was the final one since it said something like that. And if you hope she's coming close to your town, then check the website and you can see just how close she'll be. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jun 2002 10:56:44 -0600 From: "Stacey Hamilton" Subject: Re: [EDA] Cameras in venues This is true for the most part, but at some venues the aisle security can be real buttholes. Just depends on the venue staff and/or the artist's request. Or maybe how obvious or not you're being. I mean if you take like 20 flash photos within 5 minutes, chances are someone may say something to you (if it's at night). But if you take 20 over the course of an hour, it's pretty unlikely. Just use a little common sense really, and most likely it'll be ok. >From: Amber >I've tended to notice that if you can get the camera past >the guards at the gate, it's fairly smooth riding from there. >In 1999 I managed to get mine in to The Woodlands Pavilion >in Houston. Too obvious, and most venue security frown on that stuff. Using compact zoom cams is better, as long as you don't have some high end one with a fairly long zoom. 80% of them are probably ok to use though. Also the security usually considers a detachable lense camera as a "professional one" for some reason, which they clearly state aren't allowed (even IF other cameras are allowed). I think the compact zoom cams are the best way to go, and as long as you're in the first 10 rows you can still get some really great pictures. >>That 1000 speed film is a great suggestion Stacey!
