Or: The music gets me by... Just gotta share, you know?... So, I just got back from a 350 mile trip (each way) to the Mayo Medical Center in Minnesota, where we found out that my mother has a huge, inoperable tumor in her back. It seems to be very aggressive, so it looks like she doesn't have too much longer. I've never even felt like a part of my "family" (a whole other story), so I was rather surprised when I started bawling like a (32-year-old) baby as I drove myself home after leaving the 'rents to take a plane back tomorrow. But I think part of me knew it was coming, because the only music I took along on the trip were discs by the 3 women whose voices touch me like no others: Jewel, Patty Griffin, and Amanda Kravat. Right now, I'm looking forward to the tour moreso than ever. I cannot wait to stand in front of Jewel (or to the side, or whereever), let that voice get into my head, and go to another place. In what will probably turn out to be an otherwise phenomenally crappy summer, I can count on our favorite songstress to give me some moments worth remembering. Take care, all. Howdy y'all, For all of you attending the Jewel concert in Atlanta, I have a little info y'all might want. I searched the web for affordable motels near the Chastain Memorial Park area, and about the best I could find was Red Roof Inn near Druid Hills, on Druid Hills Rd. The route from the motel to the show is pretty bloody straight-forward, and it doesn't seem like there would be much traffic. The price, which to me was crazy (cheaper here), is $49.99 + tax for one person, and $59.99 + tax for two people...both for one night. Also, if everyone can get to Atlanta early enough, we can have a gathering, or whatever y'all feel like doing. I found out that there are a helluva lot of coffeehouses and such places on Peachtree Rd., which is not very far at all from both the Amphitheater (the Memorial Park) or the Red Roof Inn. Let me know what y'all think, or add to my info, and we'll put some finishing touches onto this trip. She blew me away!!! I love when she is rockier, her popish stuff is great too! But her rap is a little , well, shaky!
