I've heard them play Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton etc. but they've played Jewel a lot - one episode actually had two of her songs in it :) I've heard standing still, this way, I won't walk away, and break me among others... ~ Sandy http://angeloflove.envy.nu ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2002 04:54:26 EDT From: JewelBlues@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Re: SUMMERTIME RE: SUMMERTIME--(jewel #258)-its NOt a "janis Joplin" song--its a george Gershwin compostion written for Porgy and Bess in the 1930's...Janis is only one of maybe 50 people who have done versions of this song. When i applied to be one and clicked the submit button, it said there was an error on the page. But then when i tried to resubmit, it said that the username i entered had already been created. I know that someone else didnt have my username, because i tried this several times with several different very random usernames, and kept having the same problem. I try to log in to the section, but can't, and wrote to the webmaster but havent received any info. I also dont know how they pick applicants...is everyone picked, or do they inform you later on? I'm just concerned that my application didnt go through! Anyone else have this problem, or know how to fix it, or know anything about the application process? I love her voice! Some of the lyrics are cheesy though. The cd as a whole: A. Everyone should get it!!!!! It's one of my favorite cds now, b/c I can play the whole thing w/o skipping a song, and there aren't many cds that I can do that. It's very diverse. 1. Losing Grip: A, It's rockish 2. Complicated: A+, Love the performance of this song! 3. Sk8er Boi: C+, I don't like the beat that much. It's sort of ska and popish. 4. I'm With You: A+, I love this song! Reminds me of The Corrs. 5. Mobile: A, I love how she sings the verses 6. Unwanted: A+, My stepdad was listening to this song and asked me if it was devil music. I love her voice in this song! Awesome song! I hope this is her next single! It's really rockish! 7. Tomorrow: A, Reminds me of Natalie Imbruglia. 8. Anything, But Ordinary: A-, I love how she sings this song in the verses. Then, when it gets to the chorus it's gets popish and I don't like that part. I love how she sings the bridge too and how the music stops. 9. Things I'll Never Say: A+, This has to be a single too! I love this song! It's sweet! 10. My World: A, Sounds like some country song that I've heard before. If anyone else knows what song it is please tell me, b/c it's driving me crazy! 11. Nobody's Fool: C+, Lol. You have to hear the song. I really like the chorus though. I'll probably wind up liking this song a lot though, but for now it's fun to laugh at. 12. Too Much To Ask: A+, This has to be a single also! I love it! Reminds me of the old Alanis Morissette. 13. Naked: A+, Great song. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today! I like her, but... It just kinda irks me how she's marketed as being "edgy," but it's really just carefully marketed, glossed over "edge".. Like a 10-year-old girl standing in the mirror, flexing her muscles and trying to be tough.. I mean it's catchy, fun music (I've cranked "Complicated" a good amount of times in the past few weeks), but her whole image just kinda gets on my nerves. And the next single is "Sk8er Boi"? Give me a break! That's one of the stupidest songs I've heard in a long time. I'm MUCH disappointed by that decision. Oh well, it's not like I listen to the radio anyway. I just think they could've picked a better song to represent Avril. scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo! If you've yet to check out the new www.soulcitycafe.com web site, we highly recommend that you do. Be sure to explore the whole site to get a good idea of where Soul City Cafe is heading. And if you like what you see, consider applying to be on the SCC 'sider teams, to help build this community from the inside out! The artists featured at the eight Soul City Cafe ArtBeat venues on Jewel's tour span genres, from solo acoustic to folk pop to hard rock to slam poets and spoken word artists. You can find complete up-to-date scheduling information at the new SCC site. Now, onto the musically educational portion of my notes today. Quite a few of you have written us asking about those two "new jazz-flavored songs" Jewel has been performing during some of her encores lately. The songs are titled "The Other Woman" and "Love Me Or Leave Me" (not to be confused with Jewel's own "Love Me, Just Leave Me Alone"). Jewel became enamored by these two songs after hearing the Nina Simone versions, which were recorded for her 1966 Phillips LP "Let It All Out." Although her versions can arguably be considered the definitive versions and she is indeed a songwriter, in addition to being a gifted pianist and incredibly soulful singer, Nina Simone did not write these two songs. "The Other Woman" was written by Jesse Mae Robinson, and "Love Me Or Leave Me" was written by the team of Walter Donaldson and Gus Kahn for the 1928 stage musical "Whoopie." The album originally featuring these two songs is long out of print, but if you would enjoy hearing these Nina Simone recordings, both tracks can be found on several "best of" compilations. Jewel's versions are quite remarkable and I suspect she'll keep them around for awhile. That's about it for today. Stop by www.soulcity.com for a visit and don't forget to arrive at these special shows early and join in the fun! The following concerts are either sold out, or very close to being sold out (ie - there are only very limited seats available): *limited seats - two seats together available, but at the VERY back Theatre/Club Shows: *June 14th - Tampa Performing Arts Centre *June 15th - Fort Lauderdale - Broward Centre *June 26th - Upper Darby - Tower Theatre June 28th - Toronto - Massey Hall - only single seat obstructed view seats available *July 13th - Minneapolis - Northrop Auditorium July 20th - Houston - Verizon Wireless Theatre - only single seats available July 24th - Las Vegas - The Joint - only General Admission at the back available The show at Interlochen I don't know about, although I presume it's either sold out or close to, considering it's such a small venue. Also the show at the Hard Rock Live is hard to tell because it's General Admission - although all the balcony seats are sold out. There are also some theatre shows (ie - Chicago) that have appared to be almost sold out, until just recently when some more tickets in better sections became available. That may happen with some of the above shows. Pavilion/Amphitheatre Shows: June 19th - Vienna - Wolf Trap - SOLD OUT *June 23rd - Boston - FleetBoston Pavilion - only LAWN available *June 30th - Columbus - PromoWest Pavilion - only LAWN available *July 3rd - Rochster Hills - MeadowBrook Music Festival - only LAWN available *July 27th - Santa Barbara - Santa Barbara Bowl - very back seats available *July 28th - San Diego - SDSU Open Air Theatre - very back seats available The Pittsburg, Atlanta, and Toledo shows also seem on the verge of being sold out up to the Lawn, but not enough to list them. The Backyard in Austin is selling well too. The only shows that seem to be selling slowly are the HUGE venue shows - The PNC Bank Arts Centre, Jones Beach & Red Rocks Amphitheatre. PNC is odd because up until recently only seats in the 400's (the very back) were available, and then a week or so ago seats in the 100s and the 200s became available again. I have a feeling they put the tickets onsale in blocks... to spread out the crowd. So this venue may actually be relatively full, but they're selling the remainder of the good seats at this later date. However, Jones Beach and Red Rocks appear to be only 50% sold at this point. That's about it. This tour is definitely selling much better than the Spirit Tour.. although the Spirit Tour was in MUCH larger venues. However, most of the shows on This Tour should be basically sold out, which is good for Jewel. Hey Angels, I hate to be the one who asks the question that everybody knows the answer to but me, but . . . What ever happened to us being able to buy special Jewel concert tickets for great seating? Did all of that happen already? My parents surprised me on my birthday with tickets to see Jewel in Toledo on July 6 but they got some pretty sad seats. Is it possible to get special seats for that show or am I too late? I hope somebody can help me!
