Hope you're doing well. Just a few things: 1) I saw Life or Something Like It when it first came out. I had forgotten about the discussion, so hearing This Way was a nice surprise. They didn't just play the song for five seconds, either. It faded out just as the music gets rockier (right before "I get afraid..."). So that was nice. Will it be on the released soundtrack? If so, it could get people to buy the This Way CD. *As a side note, someone I know was in the movie. He was an extra (a cop or security guard or something) in a scene toward the end (I won't give it away) in front of the NYPD station in Times Square. I hadn't known ahead of time, but my sister recognized him right away! Sure enough, his name (Brian Donahue) was in the credits as a stuntperson. Later on, we asked him about it. He said he even got to meet Angelina! Just thought I'd share. 2)Is it worth buying The Wizard of Oz video? Just wanted to know what you guys think of it. FYI: Amazon.com offers the video AND cd for less than JMerch charges for just the video. 3) What do you guys think of the soundtrack for Ride with the Devil? I wasn't going to buy it just for one song. But I realized that the composer is Mychael Danna, who also composed the music for my favorite movie in the world, Girl Interrupted. His music was awesome in that, is it good in Ride with the Devil too? (Wow, Jewel and Mychael Danna - two of the best musicians - working together on music) Thanks, Patricia :-) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 May 2002 11:38:58 -0400 From: Perterter@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Avril Lavigne Hi, whoever reccomended her didn't mention her website, so here it is. I was front row center. It was a standing show which is great cause you can dance all along the concert. lol and it was a real rockish show since there were no solo part. Jewel is not wearing a sling anymore. She was keeping her arm against her body at the beginning. and then she started to move it a little bit near the end, but still you can see she was suffering a little bit I really enjoy the new band. It was so cool to see them on stage because they couldn't stop smiling !!! Jewel, the drummer, the guitarist... :-) Mark Oakley, the guitarist mostly acoustic is doing the backing vocals. I don't really like it neither, it sounds like a girlish voice and Jewel doesn't need this. the drummer is also doind backing vocals. and Steve George too on some songs. the new version of Who Will Save Your Soul is absolutely wonderful. T-Bone is playing the bass line at the beginning, he's really funny. he goes on the front of the stage and plays alone for a few minutes. Jewel almost all the songs from This Way (except Cleveland). She messed up my favorite part of Everybody Needs Someone Sometime : she wasn't in front of the mike in time to say "hey there honey bee, will you give me..." so she starts at "sugar". lol at the end of the show, we were waiting outside the venue for Jewel and her bodyguard came to us and said that Jewel was tired and couldn't sign anything. but he said she had a nice idea to sign some pictures in the afternoon and he gave us beautiful signed pictures. the new tourbook is really nice with beautiful pictures. take care Emilie ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 May 2002 18:17:14 -0400 From: "Brian Borden" Subject: RE: [EDA] Spokane Show. Hi Melissa, Life can certainly go to the gutter sometimes. I have been through some trying times and have had my share of loses. My best friend's dad committed suicide 10 years ago. The ramifications are still felt by her to this day. I can't tell you that life will get better. All we can do is roll with the punches, be thankful for those that we still have in our lives, and, most importantly, let them know how we feel. Have fun at the concert. Her albums have dominated the pop charts throughout the 90's with record sales in excess of 23 million- over 11 million alone for her critically acclaimed debut Pieces of You, the album that produced such well-known singles as "You were meant for me," "Who will save your soul," and "Foolish games," all of which spent a combined total of 114 weeks on the Billboard 200. Jewel's musical experience dates back to the early 1980's when, at the age of six, the young artist began performing alongside her folk singer father, touring Alaska and the lower 48 for roughly seven years. After graduating from high school, Jewel moved to California where she spent time honing her musical talents through live performance and in the process, developed an enormous cult following in the San Diego area. Says the singer on her live performance, "I've always been a live musician, and I wanted my voice to shine through." The record industry quickly got wind of Jewel's remarkable skills, and she was signed to Atlantic Records in 1995. Her latest release, entitled This Way represents her first collection of new material in three years. Maybe it's just me but I like reading stuff like this:) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #215 ***************************
