Here's another article relating to the injury and Jewel's tour from 
Rollingstone.com.  It mentions that a number of unsigned bands will be 
opening on the US tour, which I think I posted about several months ago.  I'm 
glad that worked out.  I'm interested to see which bands.

Despite Fall, Jewel Ready to Tour

Singer will perform without her guitar on European trek

After taking a topple from a horse on April 24th, Jewel joined Lyle Lovett 
(crushed right leg), Creed's Scott Stapp (neck and back pain) and George 
Jones (broken right foot) on the touring injured reserve. The 
singer-songwriter, who sustained a broken collarbone and rib in the fall, had 
to cancel a few promotional appearances but still plans to launch a European 
tour behind her latest album, This Way, in Italy on Friday.

"Usually he'll only buck with you a little bit, and then he'll get it out of 
his system," Jewel says of the as-yet-untitled colt. "My boyfriend [rodeo 
star Ty Murray] saddled him up and he goes, 'I guarantee you he won't buck,' 
and just then he bucked harder than he ever bucked [laughs]. It lasted 
fifteen seconds, which is a long time for an animal to buck. So I found a 
place to land, but I just landed wrong."

As a result of the injury, Jewel will likely be unable to play guitar for any 
of the European dates, which are scheduled to run through the end of May, but 
she hopes to heal in time for the first U.S. gig, June 14th in Tampa. She 
says that her inability to strum has her singing a capella and has rekindled 
her jazzy leanings. "I'm really into it again," she says. "There's a song 
called 'The Other Woman' -- Nina Simone covered it, and I've been singing 
that. I love, love, love jazz music, and my band is very versatile."

Courtesy of Jewel's Soul City Presents, several unsigned artists will open on 
select dates on the American leg of the tour. "I just really like new music," 
she says. "And it's a hard market right now -- it's really corporate. There's 
a lot of great music out there, but if Tom Waits came around today, I don't 
think he ever would have gotten developed or discovered. I think it's an 
anomaly that I'm making it at all."
