Hey angels, I know I'm going to get a lot of bashes from you guys, but this is my opinion so oh well. I love Jewel, I think she has an amazing voice and wonderful song writing abilities. Lately, she hasn't been using her song writing abilities. Everytime she makes a "new" CD she says it represents where she is at in her life, but how can the songs represent where she is in her present life if, when the CD was put out, she wrote the songs about 5 yrs. earlier? I'm starting to wonder if she's scared to write and maybe she is actually afraid she won't be able to write how she used to. It makes me sad b/c her lyrics are one of the biggest things that brought me to like her music. Yeah, she does write 3 or 4 new songs for her CDs, but the rest are old and just remixed. What happened to the Jewel that used to surprise people by playing a BRAND NEW song in concert? I'm not saying that she always needs to have a new song, but it would be nice to have one every so often. Maybe Jewel doesn't want to try so hard at it since now she has got more money. I know this may seem a little rude, but I'm just telling what I see. Everyone email to the list the websites of the stations in your area that need to start playing Break Me, or are playing it but not very much. Then whenever anyone gets a chance we can go to those sites and request it. Even if the stations just get a few different requests for it that has to give them a hint to at least give Break Me a try. I thikn this is a critical time for the song, and hopefully this will give it the boost that it needs. If anyone ever noticed, a lot of their singles were never originally available on albums. There was the album tracks and then there was the singles...songs like "Paperback Writer" and "Hey Jude" were never available as an album (until later when they started putting compilations together). Also, in the first years of their career they were issuing TWO albums a year, AND touring, AND doing movies. I think a lot of times, that is what helped them get as big as they did so fast. People were not allowed to get "sick" of one song on the radio. These days record companies try to milk a song for as much as possible until people get so sick of it they don't even want to hear anything else by that artist. With the Beatles, by the time you got sick of one song another one was already on the radio. They kept it new. Think about if Jewel was allowed to release songs as soon as she finished them. I mean, "Break Me" was written a long time ago and it's just now hitting the general public. The whole taking years to make an album has never made sense to me and I know it's more to do with the label than the artist. Before anyone starts asking me (once again) what I'm basing this on...I've worked with a local label in Dallas affliated with Arista for awhile and I'm in a band that records, so there (I get a lot of emails anytime I post anything like this). Anyway, I just think that record companies should go back and look at when they used to make a lot of money in music instead of constantly reporting drops in sales and see what they were doing different. Just think how the scene would change if say, Jewel had Spirit released and then Love Me Just Leave Me Alone came out as a radio single. Instead of trying to get people to like a song, they should go back to trying to get people to like the artist. That's my rant...all done....buh bye Lew www.coilback.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Apr 2002 16:49:08 -0400 From: "cymbaline" Subject: Re: [EDA] official request break me thread Its not going to work. This was discussed months ago when people were e-mailing tons of radio stations in different parts of the country just to request SS. Radio stations don't take requests from people who are obviously out of the area. Radio stations even contacted jewel's management inquiring about the "fan club's scheming" I know this was adressed by MrBB in JeweLink.... I don't remember the exact date it was, so I can't find it in the list archives.... but maybe Mike can find it and repost it for anyone who needs to be reminded that if you live in CA, don't call or e-mail a station in NY. cymbie "Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one is watching." - -Bono ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Apr 2002 16:50:49 EDT From: SullMa84@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] official request break me thread All i do when i request to a station that isn't by me is not put my location...pretty easy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Apr 2002 17:09:23 -0400 From: "Sandy" Subject: Re: [EDA] official request break me thread - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: ; Sent: Sunday, April 21, 2002 4:50 PM Subject: Re: [EDA] official request break me thread > All i do when i request to a station that isn't by me is not put my > location...pretty easy yes, it may be easy for you because your email address ends @aol.com, but the reason the radio stations knew that people were requesting the song who weren't anywhere near the location of the station was because a lot of people don't.... people would write, for example, to a radio station in NY to request standing still, and their email address would end with something like: @nefarious.university.nc, or @parkscommisson.bc.ca, so that it was obvious they were coming from too far away, and with a sudden burst of requests for the song, it makes them very suspicious of any more requests they receive. so yes, write/call stations to request it, but stick to stations around you unless you are *absolutely positive* there is no way they can tell where you are from...the radio stations are even less likely to play it if they think some sort of ploy with a fan club is happening...they might ignore all requests for the song altogether if that happens. With that in mind, check and see if any of the stations have web broadcasts as well....you can then request the song at that station regardless without it lifting anyone's eyebrows... :) ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Apr 2002 18:21:59 -0300 From: "FabioJJ" Subject: Re: [EDA] Forcing Hits! We almost had it till the end when the No Doubt fans pulled through. I think we can do the same thing for Jewel on TRL. If we can get her on TRL then her song will pick up more momentum than it has been. This is why I am proposing an attack "TRL campaign" I'm setting it for this TUESDAY APRIL 23 since it might be kind of late notice for those who don't check their mail everyday. Here is the link, you have to scroll down and check the other box and enter Jewel's name and video in the spaces. http://www.mtv.com/onair/trl/votevideo.jhtml I know you can vote as many times as you want, so everyone vote as many times as you can. I'm not sure when the voting for Tuesday would start, maybe someone out there does. It might start Monday after Monday's episode. Anyone know? You can also call in, but I don't know the number. I hope everyone will help with this. I'll try and send a reminder out tomorrow too! We CAN do this! At the least maybe get her a "close call" video!
