Nashville. Where Jewel recorded This WAy the album. Remember a few months or so back when she had a recording session with about 200 people? That's what happened in Nashville. As for the "problem" that occurred at the time, a certain EDA posted asking how the selection process worked and that spurred a huge fiasco (think: argument) about what we, as fans, should expect from the Jewel team. Geesh ... go look at the archives. Too long of a story and too much paraphrasing for my comfort for me to explain alone. Go to http://www.smoe.org and then check the EDA archives. But hey, I'll give it a shot...it's not like I can do any worse right ? Just hope I catch wind on the Grand Prarie, TX one in time. If any of you are going to that one and gonna get tickets online, let me know when you find out something on it so I know what/when to look for. As for those of you who weren't "lucky" enough to have to go through the Nashville thing, I'll try to summarize it. You know that track on the new CD "Sometimes it Be That Way"...well that was recorded at a special "secret" live recording session now affectionately known as "Nashbash" on the list. Jewel's management (and I'd imagine Jewel) decided to give exclusive invitation to the EDAs to attend this. It was very limited and only 100 invitations were to be given. I was lucky enough to get one and go and it was a lot of fun although meeting EDAs is just as fun as seeing Jewel and I would suggest it just as strongly. Anyway, to get the invitation, when the notice went out, you had to respond quickly back to a special email and they were putting together a list. There were minimal instructions to follow (although, just from my experience in dealing with an online business, no matter how simple...you'd be suprised how many people can't do it). Afterwards, I think maybe one or two days later, you'd get an email letting you know you got confirmed (if you actually did get confirmed). Well, the whiney factor came on when certain people didn't get selected and they started bitching and demanding to know how they did the selection process, blah, blah, blah. Arguements insued and a lot of people were complaining...mostly those who DIDN'T get picked. Somehow, I'm sure the process would have seemed more "fair" had they gotten picked. I personally put my request in, figuring I wouldn't get it, but I ended up getting it, so bonus for me. Now, the whole process of my actually trying to GET there and FINALLY see her is a whole different story....heh...a few of you know what I'm talking about (i.e. Rowdy and Dennis)...it was the road trip from hell. Anyway, that's pretty much it. By the way, if any of you are in the Dallas area and like some just decent hard rock, my band is finally gigging again (with our new female bass player Racquel) at The Rock on Friday, April 5th. Come out and say "hi". Lew www.coilback.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Mar 2002 23:59:53 -0800 From: "Jewel Fan" Subject: [EDA] Break Me Remix Hey.. I don't know, it kind of seems like she wrote it about someone with a hard shell, but a free spirit, who's maybe stuck in her past a little. Parts of the song don't seem to fit together, but I do think it is actually about something. As has already been stated, this is hardly preferential seating at all. A link on an artist's website that's available to anyone who can get to that site is the same as Ticketmaster.com, prob'ly slower actually since TM's website is used to handling the volume. I can see JewelJK experiencing all sorts of technical difficulties. Also, this is not in any way a "fan club perk." List owner Mike Connell asked what other groups do. A couple examples I know of personally are Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews Bands. The fan clubs for those bands(note that these fan clubs are paid-for fan clubs that have a yearly membership fee) put special seats onsale ahead of time for fan club members. That's the other thing about this JewelJK offer that's really poor. At least they could have had a special internet onsale a week ahead of time, not the same day they go onsale to the general public. That's what Tori Amos and Weezer have done recently, through web pages and internet fan-clubs that are free. You went to a special part of a website, then entered a screenname and a password that you had to have at a certain date ahead of time(to prevent bunches of people from joining up just to get the priority tickets) and again, this was a pre-sale, a week before they went onsale via Ticketmaster. Now, I'm fine with the Jewel situation personally. I hardly ever buy tickets online anyway and I know how to work the Ticketmaster system and I'm sure I'll get tickets. I doubt Jewel will sell out any of the NY area venues all that quickly. Even her smaller venues will prob'ly last longer than same day to sell out. But offering this seems kinda pointless, an effort to appease rather than true special treatment for hardcore fans, which would be the fairest thing to do.
