Subject: RE: [EDA] m2m opening I agree...and don't forget that Jewel was once an opener herself! Of course all those Peter Murphy fans back then may very well have said *she* sucked too. lol It's all just about opinions really. > ---------- > From: DavidJaymz[SMTP:davidjaymz@davidjaymz.com] > > Saying that all opening bands are poor is sometimes untrue... Subject: [EDA] NJC: Openers...more insight I think the reason many people claim opening bands suck isn't so much that they really DO (although in some cases this *may* be true), but it's more of the fact that the bands those fans went to see (the headliners) are the main reason, if not the only reason, they are there. Again, in most cases, not all. So of course those fans are going to be more likely to say the opening band wasn't good, etc, unless they are very similar to the band they came to see. Sometimes that's true, but most of the time the 2 acts aren't identical enough for the fans to like both. There have been a few openers I liked before...some even more than the headliner I went to see originally (happened twice), and I became a fan just from that one show, having never even heard of the band before. But I'd say 80% of more of the time the opening bands don't really interest me that much. I'll sit through M2M since I'm willing to give all bands a chance, but I won't know if I like them anymore than I do (or don't) now until I've sat through a 30-45 minute set of theirs. The main thing to remember though is not to judge something before you give it a chance. Yeah you may have heard some songs from then before that you didn't like, but maybe they are alot different now. You won't know though until you see them. Then after that, if you still think they suck, then you have the justification to back up your statements/opinions. :-) Sort of like don't say you hate a certain vegetable if you've never even tasted it. Derrick (also you can't really even use their new tracks as evidence on whether you'll like them or not since some bands sound totally different live...Michelle being one example) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2002 14:26:29 -0500 From: "Kerri" Subject: [EDA] NJC Openers I haven't been to many concerts, but there were times I liked the opener better, or at least as much as the headliner. The best example would be the Korn concert my boyfriend dragged me to. Stained opened for them, and I enjoyed that part of the show. This past summer Fuel opened for Aerosmith, it made for a fun show. And there are those who go for the opening act. During the Spirit tour I was seated behind people who left after Rusted Root performed. - -Kerri "But don't wander too far, my one constant star. Darkness exists, except where you are. If so, she must have seen something in them. Something that many of the EDAs, including me, don't see--though some, of course, do. I guess I'll just have to wait and... well, see. Maybe they won't be too bad. I dismissed them as soon as I heard of them a year or two ago, without even listening to their music. But then again, I dismissed Dido and I really turned out to love her. I guess Juel's reaching out to more mainstream audiences, you know? Like in the Pantene Pro-V concert, there were lots of people there to see Willa Ford, but they watched Juel anyway. Why couldn't it be Poltzie, though?? I mean, with his new CD coming out and everything, right? Or is he still working on it right now? I might suggest The Strokes, but they sound too different from Juel. ===== ~*Liz*~ the Bronx Angel HARMLESS & SHAMELESS PLUGS (if you can, check 'em out!)
