Hey guys I'm gonna warn you - this is kinda long. But it's all relevant and interesting, and I think a lot of it will be new information for you guys - so bear with me! During the three weeks the list was down I came across a little bit of Jewel info that I think you will all be very interested in! I have discovered 2 very interesting things about the next single, "This Way": First of all - the remix that is being used was produced by John Shanks. He's a very well known producer who has worked on a number of Melissa Etheridge records. He also produced some of Stevie Nicks' last record, and most recently he produced Michelle Branch's "The Spirit Room". Should be interesting. Secondly - the song is apparently being featured in the film "Life, or Something Like It", which stars Angelina Jolie. The movie opens April 26th (in the US), and supposedly This Way is like the main song from the film. Apparently the video will in some way tie in with the film. Hopefully Angelina Jolie will appear herself (as opposed to clips from the movie). I know that Jewel knows Billy Bob Thornton... so, it COULD happen! So that's that. I got the information from the Japanese Warner Music website. They have a special sub-site dedicated to Jewel, and they seem to have a very well-updated news section. Unfortunately, it's all in Japanese. However I found that there are several online translator websites that automatically translate foreign languages into English. I used that and managed to piece together the information that way. The website is www.warnermusic.co.jp - and just find Jewel's section. It's not hard. Maybe a Japanese EDA could go there and confirm what I found. All I know is that they seem to just post anything that they find out... which so far has proved very interesting. The other little bit of info I ran into is regarding Jewel's US Tour. At the China Club concert Jewel revealed some info to the audience about the tour. She told everyone that the tour will be starting when Jewel gets back from Japan (which is April, it seems). She also said that she is in the process of auditioning a bunch of unknown bands, and that through a process of elimination she will end up choosing a band to open for her on the tour. Cool huh? Um... oh, and just quickly... album sales. Jewel took kind of a beating last week. She lost 20% of her sales and landed at #29 on the Billboard Chart (#30 on the HITS chart). This week she dropped to #34 on the Hits chart, but her sales increased 13%. So she managed to rebound a decent amount, but clearly the music industry is rebounding faster than her if she can still drop 4 places whilst increasing in album sales. They REALLY need to release the second single SOON. I know this is kinda long - but it's my first post in three weeks! later, Steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Feb 2002 21:50:00 -0500 From: "Kerri" Subject: [EDA] Jewel in March Glamour I hope everyone has been well. Thought you'd be interested that Jewel has 2 mentions/pics in the new issue of Glamour. First, in the editor's letter. The issue has an article about loving ourselves and our "imperfections" and there is a small pic of Jewel with the caption "...Jewel with her gorgeously 'flawed' smile (hey Jewel, please don't ever change it!..." The second mention is in an article on teeth. There is a name that smile quiz. There are 12 celebrity smiles, Jewel is among them. It actually took me a second to recognize it because her bottom teeth are also showing, it's not the familiar Jewel smile. It was cool to see a bit of Jewel in an unexpected place. I'm so glad JewelLink is back!! I've missed it these past three weeks. But I'm really happy for another reason. I'm working on getting tickets for one of Jewel's Tokyo concerts. Tickets don't go on sale until February 16, but unless the both shows sell out (good for her, bad for me) I'm going to go!! Oh, this is exciting because I live on a military base on Okinawa, Japan. I haven't been to a concert since 1997, I think. And this is Jewel!!! :D Wish me luck. I vow to not take this list for granted again, I was starving to talk to other Jewel fans :) So.... what did everyone think of NWW acoustic on Conan? I thought she did a beautiful job, although the chorus was a little faster than on the album and I'm not sure how I feel about that yet, I think it might take away from it a bit. I loved how she smiled when she sang the line "what fun's power if you can't act like a rock star" very cool. I like it acoustic but I'm interested to hear it with her band. Jewel left a message in the Jewellink lounge that said that she thinks that it is the best song live from the album with the band (she called when she was rehearsing with them in Nashville). Anyway glad to be back and have you all back. - -- Chrissy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Feb 2002 23:36:00 -0500 From: "*Melissa* :-)~" Subject: [EDA] Yay! As a long time list member I agree that NJC(which I've always loathed) got out of control, as did interpersonal bickering and such nonsense. Anyway, just to comment on some of the Jewel stuff that went on while the list was down. I think the only think worth noting is her appearance on Conan O'Brien doing "The New Wild West" solo acoustic. This is one of the best live interpretations I've heard Jewel do in a long, long time. If she keeps up that level of excellence during her tour I will be very pleased indeed. And I think that performance of that song goes a long way to prove the point I've always made, that Jewel's music comes across much stronger solo acoustic than with some hashed together mediocre studio band.
