I was going to but NBC decided it wanted to go off the air for a few hours (still is), so it wasn't on. Almost comical I guess, I mean since it went off about 15 minutes after Michelle got done playing. Maybe it's some sort of message...hehe. Well.. it was really good. I loved that she did DYWTP but it was like she didn't really put that much feeling into her singing. And she didn't say a lot of things like "you're so special" and "who gives a.." So it seemed kinda..... empty. Well... judging by Carsons sex question, for those of you who didn't already know, it has been confirmed that Jewel is not a virgin. There ya go Jade! ;) lol. Oh... And good for Jewel that she spoke up about how the talk shows don't interview the singers, but they do the actors. lol... maybe they'll start now. I sure hope so. all in all, a great show! ~Jewel Fan~ http://www.angelfire.com/sk/killorgeteven (long story about the name of the URL. Hi All, Mr.BB wrote wayback in 1997: This was originally intended to simply accompany a message detailing all the great things the EDAS were doing (such as The JPK Trust Project, Blood Drive, The Raffle, JPK night at Java Joe's, Hot Dog Fest & Berryhill/Hummel EDA Cafe in Boston My question: why not do it all again this summer? We can get back into doing gatherings. Granted, they are never the same twice and no repeats can be repeated(huh?). I'm saying, Jewel has said that she's going back onto tour this year why not have gatherings. And I think that its been said before that Jewel likes it for others to be helpful so lets get some community service gatherings going too. Sure getting out of your neighborhood to hang with a bunch of people that you don't know, let alone probably never met in person, isn't all as scary as its cracked up to be. :-P I love having NO sleep and 3 cans of Pepsi! hehe Laters the Kung Fu Angel Alex ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jan 2002 09:19:54 +0000 From: "now and zen girl" Subject: [EDA] last call... great show! i thought last call was the best interview jewel has ever had hahaha! it was soooo HILARIOUS. i watch TRL a lot, and i really do think carson is a great guy and a real fan of music. and i know him and jewel are friends, but wow i had no idea that hes known her that long... 7 years! and i think we should be really greatful to carson for helping jewel get on the radio in the beginning... so YEAH CARSON! as for the interview... it was soooo FUNNY! i cant stop laughing every time i watch it... cus seriously who wants to hear the same questions shes asked all the time? i thought the sex question was great and i thought jewel handled it very well... but i dont think she was kidding about where she said she has had sex before... dont know who said they thought she was kidding, i think she wasnt kidding. gosh, she said it was too much of sin... was it in a church hahahahahaha... that jewel im tellin ya hahaha... and the castration thing was so funny! i just knew that since this show was a late night show sex would be mentioned... and jewel would swear, cus she can hahaha. its really great how comfortable jewel is with carson... it really comes accross well when he interviews her... now and in the past. as for the performances... they were deffinately her best of the promo tour. dywtp was great, especially when she let go at the end. i havent seen her do that in a long time. and ss sounded awsome too, i think she was feeling the songs a lot. my review.... Is it good? Depends what you're looking for. If you want something fun, easy to listen to, not too deep, then it's great. It's OK. My boyfriend and I got on the priority line thanks to the Jewelink email, which I responded to promptly. He's not such a big Jewel fan, although he kindly tolerates my fascination with her and her music. Anyway, we were snatched off the line to be part of the people sitting on the stage during her singing of SS and DYWP. We got sent up to a little room with a fridge and couches where we watched her rehearse. Then, they came and got us and sat us on the stage. Carson was kind of doofy and I thought his questions were a little lame, but being that it's a new show and he's trying to get ratings...and it's on at a time when few people in their right minds are up. Anyway, it was glorious seeing Jewel so close and making eye contact with her several times. I was sending her love and appreciation vibes. The band was good--they were feeling it. I had a great time. I saw EDAs Amy, Iris, Eric, and others. It was funny. At one point during a break in the taping I was staring at JEwel in admiration and I caught Carson Daly checking me out. He's kind of a dork. Plus I had my boyfriend right next to me. You can see him lean over and give me a kiss right after Jewel's performance of DYWP after Carson says.... "We're gonna have some cowgirl fun". It's very subtle, but it's there...anyway, Jewel is so adorable in person (not the first time I've seen her up close), and very thin and absolutely ravishing. She is just so funny and impromptu. Love her. The interview and blatantly gushing fans made me realize all the nonsense she goes through as a celeb and I could see why she would want to quit...all the phoniness, nonsense, etc. But I hope she doesn't because I think her music rocks, what she has to say is important, and she inspires the hell out of me and others...you take the good along with the bad, I guess. ANyway, I had a good evening. The next time I go on that show if I do I wanna be the one performing, though... ~:0))) _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jan 2002 15:48:24 EST From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Another This Way Review Here's a neat review of This Way... who says Jewel isn't getting compared to Joni Mitchell anymore? This is from a newspaper in Louisville: "This Way" Jewel (Atlantic) All grown up By SCOTT ROBINSON b" Jan. 12, 2002 The Courier-Journal In these cynical times we are pre-disposed to both despise and embrace artists like Jewel -- despising her for the out-of-touch simplicity of her style and demeanor, embracing her because she seems as miserable as we are. But with her third album, Jewel has transcended both her peers and our sel f-serving paradigm, giving us a glimpse of artistry and emotional well-being we haven't seen in a female singer-songwriter since around the time she was born. You'd have to revisit Joni Mitchell or Carole King to really capture the balanced self-appraisal, insight and sheer maturity that these songs imply. And the moody, melancholy girl we heard on Jewel's previous albums is the last person we expected to ascend to this level. Where her peers give us New Age psychotherapy (Sarah McLachlan) and narcissistic reflux (Alanis Morrisette), Jewel's all-about-me approach is the unpretentious kind, that flavor of self that just sees what it sees and expresses it without being supercilious. The world doesn't make sense, she declares with no flashing neon. This sentiment brings her right alongside her artistic predecessors, who likewise avoided any arrogant tendencies to follow such obvious pronouncements with dissembling. Jewel's take on herself and the culture that grants her an audience is a fly-on-the-wall experience, a series of poignant riffs that glow and bleed with equal intensity ("Standing Still," "Break Me"). "I Won't Walk Away" and "Love Me, Just Leave Me Alone" truly place her in a context beyond her time. This is the self-possession of a '70s woman, with no scent of the Ally McBeal inanities we endure today. Outstanding (and surprising) production makes this album a sonic treat that betrays none of Jewel's coffeehouse sensibilities. But it is the unrehearsed vulnerability of her offhand revelations that draws us to her. "I tried to be unlovable, why couldn't you do the same?" she sings. If you've ever loved someone who felt that way, then you know without a doubt that you've discovered an album that will sit up all night with you. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #36 **************************
