Subject: [EDA] NJC: Vanessa and Michelle Has anyone seen the video by Vanessa Carlton? She plays the piano. I've only seen it a couple times now, but I can't help to think back to old school Jewel when I hear her voice in some places...not in the whole song, but in certain parts if you close your eyes, you'd swear that was Jewel circa 95-96. Amazing vocal similarities. Did anyone see Michelle on TRL today?? It was really cool...she showed Carson the chords for her new single All You Wanted, then they debuted the new video, which was really great! Then they came back and talked to her some more. She looked really cool too, wearing some tall hat. Kinda silly but it worked well. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 00:43:39 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: [EDA] last call issues Some people say Jewel isn't going to be tonight, others say she will be, but what I haven't seen are those who are saying they don't even get the show in their area. I've learned that many regions aren't even broadcasting this show. They play other shows after Conan then paid programming airs. So I guess only certain markets will even get to see it, whether Jewel's on or not. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 13:49:15 -0500 From: "Pablo" Subject: [EDA] NJC: brand new contest!! read only if you dare to participate ;) hahahahahhah!!... I have to say of all the television appearances she's done (aside from the I&I) this was the BEST both musically and in terms of the interview. Both Do You Want To Play & Standing Still were GREAT... especially the end of DYWTP where she let it rip vocally. And the interview was truly an example of how Jewel can be when it's not a contrived situation, and when the interviewer is just being relaxed and asking questions and chatting instead of asking a bunch of pre-planned pre-discussed questions that don't have any kind of new answers to them. Anyway.. I really enjoyed it! Last call just ended so, i thought before i lose the nerve to post i should. I personally thought that it was the best i've seen Jewel in a long time. Standing still was MUCH better than on Dave. And while i'm really looking forward to seeing her perform TNWW, i think Do you want to play was a good choice for this show. And leave it to Carson to Tap in to the sex department. Ha ha. Too bad he didn't castrate the cow right! =) I too am nostalgic for the "girl and her guitar" but when i had that i wished for a more rock jewel. Maybe i'll always want what i don't have....i'm not saying that i think jewel is very rock now, but i see more potential. As andrea has told me more than once.....i don't want the good songs on the radio, it makes me think they are more special because i don't have to share with so many people. Ha ha. SOrry Andrea. =) Have a nice night/morning everyone Mel _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 02:26:27 EST From: JeWeLsTaR386@aol.com Subject: [EDA] last call jewel did sound really good though Love ya~Michelle I'd rather be disliked for who I am, Than liked for who I'm not~Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 07:32:38 +0000 From: "now and zen girl" Subject: [EDA] jewel and ty where-abouts so ty has confirmed that he was not with jewel at the rugburns concert on new years eve. he spent it alone at home cus he had only been home 2 days in all of december. and he said that he and jewel were at ground zero last month. so maybe thats why there were things said about jewel and ty being new york. alisa - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: Click Here ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 08:36:42 +0100 From: "Tom Hall" Subject: [EDA] [SJC] Letterman and the buffoon Watched the 2 Letterman performances on ITV2 the last couple of nights. Now, since in Europe we're starved of *any* Jewel, they both were great in my eyes :). I thought Standing Still was a bit bland, sounded too much like the album version, but was an OK performance. I didn't think she looked bored though. Break Me was great, there were some points where I did really see the old Jewel, screwing her eyes up and letting her emotion show. That was cool. Looking forward to seeing her in Hamburg now! And now something from Derrick, who seems to enjoy proving others wrong so I thought I'd correct him for once: <> 'Diversion: 1. The act of diverting from a specified course. 2. an official detour used by traffic when a main route is closed. 3. Something that distracts from business, etc: amusement. 4. a feint attack designed to draw an enemy away from a main attack.' I'm guessing your record collection isn't trying to divert people, is it? Or do you have 2? - The No Doubt one with 'real' music diverts people away from the one filled with NSync and Britney? Hmmm... I'm thinking you meant diverse. And if we're talking about really diverse here - the one thing that all has in common is that it's all charted. Try and dig deeper and find some really original and diverse music. World music could be interesting, or a little bit of the incredible Johnny Mayer :). Cheers, Tom. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 02:02:41 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W."
