I definatly agree...I personally don't listen to either of Jewel's first cd's anymore and didn't a month after I had each of them. PIECES OF YOU seems a bit juvenile to me, yes some of the songs are good but basically it's nothing to praise highly, I too am glad Jewel is doing other things even if she is dabbling in "pop radio"...so be it. Courtesy of Mikewhy's "A Dent In The Tori Universe" Web Site: Tori has received several gifts from people throughout this tour by those who are inspired by her. When I heard of the following gift however I had to really admire this person for his originality. A friend of Tori's named Jeff Scott Young (who used to play guitar with Megadeth and now writes a monthly column in Guitar magazine), presented her with a special gift after the Cincinnati, Ohio show. She was given a plaque documenting an actual star located at the coordinates of Andromeda Ra Oh57m 54sd 33 degrees 50 degrees that is officially registered in Switzerland and at the US copyright office bearing the name TORI AMOS. Now the heavens will remind her of her billiance. Tori was very pleased with her gift, for she has mentioned it in at least two shows, Milwaukee and Kansas City. How the card read that accompanied Tori's Star: thoughts one night puppy walking and night sky watching a thought of you happened to pass through those twinkle eyes shinning down like pools of elysian fields got me thinkin' on another gift to wish upon you you know i danced with mr. famous some years back as he flashed a shallow smile through the haze but i've shacked up with some ghosts on the other side lately to help get past the hype and the craze so as i sit watching you shine from the second row tonight i'm most of all understanding the space that you're in no matter how much talent you tuck under the glitter of spotlights shadows seem to make even the magic one's like us forget that's why i decided to place a mirror in the sky to remind you when there's not another soul or a stage for miles where ever you are "baby do look up" for the star with the yummy tori smile Jess angel with broken wings ~*~*with a broken wing, she carries her dreams, but man you oughta see her fly*~*~ (\o/) /_\ >Another birthday present that Jewel got awhile back was a star(like in the >sky, not on the Hollywood walk of fame) named after her. Well, yeah, perhaps Tori had one named after her, not sure WHEN that was, but in May of 1997 the EDAs in fact DID gift Jewel a birthday present that was a star named after her. It's official name is "Jewel of the North" or something like that. It's located in the bucket of the North Star. (I think that's where it is anyway. Adam's Pieces Of Jewel web site that was the official location of the proclomation is no longer online to verify the exact facts) Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2002 21:18:33 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: Re: [EDA] : RE: STAR NAMED JEWEL I wrote: > but in May of 1997 the EDAs in fact DID gift Jewel a birthday present > that was a star named after her. Adam's Pieces Of Jewel web site > that was the official location of the proclomation is no longer online to > verify the exact facts) Here's the post from MrBB that announced the present Mike :-) Date: Wed, 21 May 1997 00:24:37 -0400 (EDT) Subject: MrBB-Jewel's Birthday-All is revealed :-) Hi all EDAs, As you all know, there has been much discussion about Jewel's birthday, and as a result, some genuinely fantastic projects have taken place & some are still underway. We achieved real consensus that we didn't want to inundate Jewel with conventional gifts, and so we're commemorating the day with spiritual and generous personal and collective acts. We know this is more in line with her wishes, and this being the real gift, will no doubt please her immensely. However, we also knew the EDAs wanted to present her with something representative of our feelings for her that would be memorable, appropriate and kind of fun as well. The guitar picks are an excellent idea but unfortunately were not going to be available in time to make an impact on her birthday. We hope that you will find the following another idea that you'll be proud to be associated with. If nothing else, we hope it brings at least a smile to every EDA face. For a number of reasons, there was virtually no consultation with the EDA's for this gift, so we hope you don't find it too presumptious that we're presenting it on behalf of all the EDA's. Timing was a key factor, and we had to move quickly if we were going to be able to present this to Jewel on her actual birthday. However, we're confident that most of you will be happy (or at least amused) with what we've done. As an abstract and symbolic gesture, we've arranged to have a star officially named after Jewel. This has actually been accomplished! A star that is easily visible (in the bucket of the Little Dipper) no longer has just a bunch of teloscopic co-ordinates for a name. It has been officially redesignated as 'Jewel Kilcher (Jewel of the North)' Those familiar with Jewel's favorite question ("Would you rather be a fish or a star?") & her answer to this question will hopefully see the thought (& humor) behind this gift. A few of the key people in Jewel's life that know about the gift have said this will blow her mind! (They are sworn to secrecy, too :-) Amy Nuefeld also was kind enough to design a card from The EDAs to Jewel. This was originally intended to simply accompany a message detailing all the great things the EDAS were doing (such as The JPK Trust Project, Blood Drive, The Raffle, JPK night at Java Joe's, Hot Dog Fest & Berryhill/Hummel EDA Cafe in Boston). Without knowledge of this gift, she created the PERFECT card! Incredibly, on the front is an angel figure blowing into their hand as it explodes into stars! Cosmic, heh? ;-) You can all see this card along with Jewel's certificate, letter & star map. You can also read a note that was included explaining the concept. We think this will pretty much explain to you why we felt this was a gift both worthy of Jewel, and the truly wonderful group of people that comprise the EveryDay Angels. All of this is now available on a new area of the "Pieces Of Jewel" site. You can actually view these gifts now by taking a little journey to: ***** NOT ONLINE AS OF THIS MOMENT ****** I plan on looking into getting at least this back online, perhaps at my EDA site - Mike 1-17-2002 Lenedra has the originals (certificate, card, star maps, etc.) with her now in Europe. She will be personally presenting them to Jewel on her birthday (Friday) in Cologne, Germany as a gift from all the EDAs. We hope you continue to support the EDA Foundation & become an active part of its future & to make a difference in your own community, as well. But for now we simply hope you all enjoy being a part of this birthday gift to Jewel & accept it in the symbolic & humorous way it was intended.
