I would take my entire family and i would buy those last minute airline tickets...those $1000.00 tickets to the reception for Aides benefit. It would be so much fun...Ciara says she would wear her Indian costume...hahaha. She is so silly...she really would wear it and she would be proud of herself all dressed up like that. It would be funny! I've been to NY one time..about 1989, in my husbands brand new chev. suburban truck, all shiny and new . I was doing the driving and my husband was the passenger....i wanted to go to the ghetto part of NY...i wanted to see how the poor people were living on the streets...i found the ghetto and i got lost there. I had stopped at a traffic light on a very wide street (about 8 lanes i think) and a group of young guys were walking across the street coming towards our truck and i was scared. It was very late at night and warm...the windows were down...my husband had the video camera in the windshield filming and all of a sudden...one of the guys yelled at me..."don't even think about trying to leave"....it scared me so much that i put my foot to the pedal ...ran the red light and then got very lost. It took forever to get out of that part of town. Luckily...i was the first car stopped at the light and there was no one to run into. There were cars parked on the side of the streets without any tires...new looking cars and many of them. One intersection there was a car on fire. I had turned down a side street just to catch my breath and there was a big brick apartment building with tall glass windows...on the staircase just inside the door, i could see people sleeping on the stairs. After all that, i decided to just find my way back home. I would go back to see Jewel sing... That's all for now..Sheila. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jan 2002 19:16:12 EST From: TheHpyFntm@aol.com Subject: [EDA] NJC: This whole Britney Spears thing Okay. This whole Britney thing is really starting to get petty and stupid. To clear a few things up: Whoever said that she doesn't sing live, 90% of the time was correct. In her concerts and public appearances, she uses pre-recorded vocal tracks and either lip-synchs or sings along with them on all upbeat tracks where a lot of dancing is included. She almost *always* sings live on her ballads. Several other performers do this (ie: Madonna and Janet Jackson). Last night, at the AMA's her voice may have sounded shaky and she may have missed some notes, but she was nervous. I would have been nervous as well. Everyone is so quick to snap at her when it's not like some of us could be up there doing it. And anyone who wants proof that she can sing, listen to any of her demos (prior to the god-awful producer that taught her whining was an attractive vocal quality) like on Star Search or on the Mickey Mouse Club. Some of the vocals on the album are impossible to reproduce live without the use of a voice box or over-dubbed vocals because they are so over-produced on the album (which, as you read on, is not her fault). Last of all, I hate the way people always judge Britney's personality. I don't know how much most people on this list know about the music industry, but from some of the comments, I'm supposing not a whole hell of a lot. Some people are not lucky enough to have the freedoms that Jewel had when cutting an album. Most acts, starting out are not allowed to write their own songs, much less be the person that they really are. Half of what you see of Britney in magazines and television interviews is not her. It's the record companie's version of her. It's what they think is sexy and hot and appealing to the pop market. They don't care that Britney is a sweet little southern girl. They don't care that in real life, when she goes out with her friends, she would be much more comfortable wearing a pair of sweat pants and a long-sleeved t-shirt than some hoochi outfit. Point being, *she* doesn't get to decide how the world views her. She doesn't pick all her songs. She doesn't necessarily make the decisions about a lot of things that some people have been criticizing in the past few weeks (like the video, which for the record was made prior to "standing still"). Basically the point is, don't make accusations that you can't back up or don't know anything about. Don't criticize her when it's really the record company's fault. And for God's sake, don't pit her against Jewel. She has never compared herself to Jewel, nor has she ever said a derogatory word about her. I don't see why she's such a big issue on *this* list. Just get over it. If you don't like her, that's fine. If you do, more power to you. Either way though, last time I checked this was a Jewel list. This is the last I'll comment on Brit. Anyone with response, is more than welcome to email me privately. Please don't take this email the wrong way. I didn't mean to come off as crappy, but I was just hoping to clear up some of the misconceptions... JEWEL! you have anger... and then someone to explain it...a balance! atlantic is missing some very huge marketing hints here! ive taken marketing... but you dont need marketing skills to figure this out. i suppose this is more a matter of psychology if you think about it. im big on psychology, so i like this kind of evaluating. maybe atlantic needs a psychologist to give them assistance hahaha. call me wierd but thats what i think, and it seems more logical to me than thinking she just got big for no reason. so i think that a song like the new wild west could change things all over again! the way the world is right now a song like the new wild west could be the anthem of america. it could make history. people could associate the crisis of sept. 11 with the new wild west... it could be the anthem! i know if i was working for atlantic it would the first song i... ok maybe the second... NO the first! the first song off the album... cus it came out right after the incident... a song to get people going and thinking and motivated! its what america needs!!!! an anthem... and jewel has it... and atlantic wont let it take flight.... FOOLS!! haha i laugh at them for this. so go ahead atlantic and release another love song... nothing wrong with the song, i love it, but its not the appropriate song right now. we dont need another love song, we have britney for that. we need an anthem! we need powerful lyrics that motivate and make minds tick! thats what we need! and jewel is the person who can do it perfectly. but dont listen to us, the EDAs, the people you should use... go with the radio friendly. of course if a song is wanted by the public any song could be radio friendly... even the new wild west. ok enough said by me. just felt like stating my point...my side of the discussion. alisa _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #13 **************************
