I thought I'd list some artists for you to check out (a few have been mentioned before by me and others) Kris Delmhorst - her album is "Five Stories" and is great. John Mayer - he's young, he's cute, and talented? Need I say more?? :) Buy his CD "Room for Squares" today!!! Mary Lou Lord - she's really good...she has such a sweet voice. I recommend any of her CDs/EPs.... I just ordered her new album (Live City Sounds) off Amazon.com, and I can't wait to get it. David Poe - another guy with a great talent in songwriting. He only has one album (i'm praying he releases another one!) and it's acoustic and filled with alot of great grooves. Jack Johnson - bluesy, folky songwriting. This guy is really good. He's sort of like a cross between ben harper, john mayer, and g. love... i highly recommend this guy. Willy Porter - incredibly talented singer/songwriter. upbeat but relaxing. Check out his CD "Falling Forward" Keb 'Mo - I was turned onto this guy when he appeared on the Garth Brooks special. He's an awesome blues guitarist. Peter Mulvey - this is another guy who sort of reminds me of Dave Matthews in his songwriting. I can imagine Dave singing some of these songs. His CD is called "The Trouble with Poets" Ben Harper - awesome awesome awesome songwriter. I love him so much! David Rice - I discovered this guy a few years ago, and he is quite talented. (he's kind of cute too!) Julia Darling - before her CD was released to the public, her record company emailed me and asked me to be a part of their "listening forum" for an up and coming artist. They sent me her CD and I've been hooked on it since. Apples in Stereo - I don't own any of their CDs, but I've loved them since I first heard one of their songs a few years ago. They sort remind me of old Beatles. Rialto - one of those Oasis-esque brit-pop bands. I love them, and their song "Untouchable" Hurricane #1 - Another britpop band that sounds much like Oasis, IMO. David Gray - another great singer/songwriter... sort of reminds me of Bob Dylan. and.... that's about it for now. If I think of anymore I'll post. anyone else got artist recommendations? :) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Jan 2002 14:13:17 -0800 (PST) From: Michiel van Gorkum Subject: [EDA] jeroen thijsen email me about hamburg hello jeroen, i lost your new emailaddress, can you please sent me the mail if you are joining me to hamburg by car to see jewel michiel Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! Subject: [EDA] AMA's tonight Well maybe this will spice things up a bit since the list has been all but dead the past few weeks. I just saw Britney's performance on the AMA's tonight...and while *I* wasn't surprised at all, I figured some of you might like to know that she didn't lip-sync. Anyone who saw it and tries to say she did needs some serious help. Some said awhile back that she lip sync's ALL the time...you know who you are. And I replied, "no", she SINGS about 90% of the time...it's just that what most people are associating their statements with are when they see her on select TV performances. So, tonight there was no boa constrictor, no dancers surrounding her, no lip syncing, and she was covered more (with far more elegant clothes) than Jewel has been the past several TV performances. My, how things change. So rather than saying all sorts of things to those who said she never sings, I'll just say "I told you so". I rest my case. :-0 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Jan 2002 21:47:50 -0500 From: "Scott" Subject: [EDA] Re: NJC AMA's tonight she sings nowhere near 90% of the time. she'll sing live on the slow tracks because there's no dancing involved, but considering the fact that 'not a girl' is the only slow song on the new album, that's not 90% of the time. i watched the hbo concert and it was obvious that 'not a girl' was the only song she sang live. the sound was incredibly bad and cut out many times and her lips kept moving. and, yes, you could tell she was singing live tonight. it was pretty bad when she tried improvising. heh. where was your "njc" derrick? that jewel sentence was "sjc" at best. heh, sorry, you've just been so picky about that with everyone. just picking at ya ;-) scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . I especially think that thoughs who like Jewel's poetry would really like this song. The way she sings it is gorgeous, everyone should listen to it again. Ciara just does not like her singing voice and i don't think she ever will....Ciara continues to say that Britney does not have a talent with her voice....however, she says the music is okay. She really liked the Yolanda Adams singer...but still says Jewel is the best!! Soon, it will be two years since Ciara's discovery of Jewel....her love for Jewel has grown as she continues to be totally inspired by all Jewel does. I was organizing her room this morning and putting all the Jewel stuff in its place and i was in awe when i came across the scrape books she has put together of Jewel....she has written every Jewel song she has on her notebook paper and has them all stacked neatly in a folder which has Jewel pictures pasted everywhere. I re-read poems and songs that Ciara has composed over these past two years and i just can't believe it....this child is so inspired by Jewel and i wonder how long this love of Jewel will continue. Looking back on all of this and all the fun we have had these past two years....i hope it continues forever! Thank you Jewel for what you have done and for the inspiration my little girl gets from you. I hope there are many, many children out there that are so inspired by you. If it were not for Jewel...i doubt that Ciara would be singing, writing poems and her own songs, playing a guitar and i doubt that she would even have a hero in her life. There is something about Jewel that Ciara just connects too....and it amazes me how far she has come in two years. I read the email yesterday from Mr. BB...Jewel will be in Nashville the last week of Jan.....about 2 weeks ago we received a call from the lady that does showcases in Nashville....she told me that Ciara may get to do her showcase the end of January. I have not told Ciara that Jewel will be in Nashville and i'm not going to tell her. I think she would lose her mind. Bye for now, Sheila. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #11 **************************
