In all that time I never managed to get myself a copy of the Jewelstock concert. At one point I was talking to someone about it, but never received them. Anybody willing to share? Preferably CD, but tapes are ok too. I don't have much to trade, but I'll try (or pay s/h and tape/cd costs) Please let me know.. Thanks! But if she wants to take a private concern public, then expect to see a public reply from me. Alisa's in control of her own complaints...she just hasn't realized this I guess...or enjoys what she's doing too much. Which is fine with me. Truly you have a fallen logic. Those skydivers have still taken classes, and what would you like to bet the one is not likely to ignore regulations until they are very very good. I know that I would follow every regulations when jumping out of and airplane thousands of feet above the ground until I was comfortable doing otherwise. What would you like to bet also that those who ignore the regulations and safety precautions are the skydivers who are more likely to receive and injury, and or even death? Also, skydiving is not THAT dangerous in the first place. Thousands of people do it, and only a very small fractions of those people are injured. Why you ask? Because they have been TRAINED!!!! "In any case, the BEST way to learn how to drive in snowy/icy/slippery conditions is to actually do it." This is the fallen logic I'm talking about. Do you realize how ass backwards this statement is. That's like saying "Well, the best way to prevent a drug overdose it to take it in small amounts first increasing to larger amounts so your body can gradually become more accepting of the drug." You should have to get your body prepare for high doses of the drug. Why? Because you shouldn't even be doing the drug in the first place. The same goes for you shouldn't have to learn how to drive expertly in the ice/snow. Why? Because you shouldn't be doing it in the first place!!! ~kris~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2001 15:06:33 EST From: WishingChair19@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: Safety alert In a message dated 12/11/2001 2:33:28 AM Central Standard Time, amethyst@endor.org writes: > Besides all that rant.. if you haven't noticed, there ARE classes on > how to drive. It's BS. Joe Schmoe is much less likely to become o victim of a dangerous situation until someone comes along who thinks, "I pay more attention than almost anyone on the road and can handle dangerous situations much more than Joe Schmoe who drives slow and follows all the rules." until This person loses control and plows into Joe Schmoe killing him. ~kris~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2001 15:35:57 -0500 (EST) From: space_bandits@webtv.net Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: Safety alert I'm sure some of you on this list remember the great rock drummer Cozy Powell (Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Jeff Beck Group, Emerson Lake and Powell, Peter Green's Splinter Group, etc). He was one of the best drummers ever. He was also a lover of speed and thrill seeking. He rode motorcycles, horses, snowmobiles, what have you. He had a few minor scrapes, but was always pretty cocky about his skills as a rider and driver. Guess how Cozy died in 1998? A car wreck, going too fast in the rain. I can't read any of his interviews where he brags about how good of a driver he was anymore without sadly cringing. Accidents can and do happen to a good many sensible drivers, but the odds are against the ones who aren't. Jewel sold 106 585 copies of This Way. This was a 2% increase from last week, although she ended up dropping to #28 (from #20). Positions 25-28 were all within a few hundred copies of each other, so who knows where she'll be on Billboard. She won't be lower than #28 though.. because there's a few thousand copies seperating her at #29. That brings her running total to approximately 470 000. Not bad. Holding on reasonably well. The next two weeks are two of the biggest weeks in CD sales.. so we should see some decent increases over that period. Subject: [EDA] Jewelstock copies I've seen a few posts about this so I'll just send this to everyone to maybe avoid future questions regarding this. For those asking if anyone can send them a copy of Jewelstock on CD....it never existed on CD. What was treed on the list were audio tapes. So the only copies you could get would be ones from an audio dub. This is unfortunate of course, but that's reality. Derrick ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2001 14:59:28 -0800 From: Gerrit Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: Safety alert:You have a fallen logic WishingChair19@aol.com wrote: > WOW! Truly you have a fallen logic... LOL. Silly boy. I wasn't refuting your points. I was just showing where I'm coming from. I don't mind pushing the bar to enjoy life. Granted, I do risk getting in an accident. But guess what? We all do when we walk outside. Why not make sure we do whatever we can to ensure that we know what to do when misfortune tries to attack us. I actually risk getting a ticket more than anything. ;P And yes, when I get in a horrible accident and lose a limb, you can laugh and point, as long as you let me do the same when the "safe" (paranoid?) drivers do (not that I'd want to). Driver's Education here in the U.S. is a complete joke. I have no clue how it is elsewhere, but here it's just lame. You are taught the basic rudimentary skills about how to drive when the weather is PERFECT. Oh yeah, then they mention what to do in some certain conditions, but you never get to try them and be corrected. How are you supposed to survive real life if you screw up and end up taking out a whole line of cars because you slammed on the brakes instead of simply slowing down and switching lanes? Yes, I'm aware that most people think they drive better than most people. While I also have this opinion, I only stated the "pay attention better than most" because it's absolutely true. Any of my friends will tell you the same. I am the sole driver on many of my friends vehicles (besides them) because they trust me with their vehicle, but not their other friends. It's quite screwy cuz I drive 10-20mph faster than 1/2 my friends, but whenever we go anywhere, they'd rather ride with me than have me ride in their car with them. In any case, the point is that the first thing they teach you in driver's ed is to "know your exits," and I wish to hell more people did. Most people just panic when presented with a problem by another driver. By the way.. your drug overdose comparison is quite silly. I didn't say "The best way to have a major accident and die in snowy/icy/slipper conditions is to actually do it".. I said "the best way to learn how to drive in snowy/icy/slippery conditions is to actually do it." All I'm saying is practice helps tremendously when learning what your vehicle will do in strange conditions. Whenever you get a new vehicle, I hope you take it out and figure out how wide and long it is.. along with if/how much it fishtails around corners fast.. and how quickly it can stop from high speeds.. and how much control you can retain while doing so. I know people who get in accidents all the time, and claim none of them are their fault. Then you ask them the details and they explain how someone merged in their lane with them in it.. or how someone wouldn't let them merge.. granted, it's true.. it's mostly not their fault.. it was caused by the other driver. But we all can learn what to look for and how to get out of situations like that. I live in Southern California. There are way too many people on the roads here and on a daily basis I avoid getting into accidents by people not paying enough attention, people getting distracted, honestly not seeing another car, or just being plain stupid. The whole thing goes back to the point of.. what's wrong with taking a sunday drive in the snow? I mean, it's not like they're speeding around in the snow screaming in the face of death. They're just driving in sub-optimal conditions. So what? The best time to learn how to deal with such conditions are when you are calm and have no pressure.. you can go outside and enjoy them, instead of freaking out because you've never had to drive in them before. One day or another, you're going to be stuck somewhere cuz it's snowing. I, on the other hand, will be on my way home instead of being stuck cuz I'm not afraid of driving in the sub-optimal conditions. Anyway.. I'm not directing any of the generalities at you or anyone else as far as the ability of your driving skills cuz I for one do not know them. However, I am of the opinion that it is not a good idea to limit your driving practice to perfect weather and road conditions. You just gotta be prepared. I'll just keep digging here.. =P Gerrit ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #684 ***************************
