For those of you who want to be in it, here's how it's gonna work: First, a pic would be suggested. I DO have a scanner, so if you want to send one to me, I'll scan it and send it back to you. Second, some basic info about you, why you are an EDA, yada yada yada.... Third, if you want any other clipart or background graphic on there, send it along (just keep it reasonable) and last, if you have your own website, send along the link or any other links to places you like and I'll put it on your page. All pages will be listed by Angel name or real name...whatever you use on the list. The main point of this is for EDAs who get on the list to be able to immediately go to the gallery and see some info about the people they are talking to. I've already got a couple of submissions so I'll be starting on it all soon. It might be good to go ahead and say what part of the world you are from too....you might find an EDA near you. If she releases a solo acoustic album, I think now people will give her the deserved respect, because they'll see how awesome and powerful Jewel can be. I'm talking more about me, because I do prefer Jewel solo, like I never did to no other artist. I also like Jewel with band, obviously, and if Jewel were only solo, I would probably get tired of her, but she's always at her best singing alone playing a guitar. Well, that's what I think. Maybe the next CD could have 12 live solo acoustic songs and 2 studio bonus tracks with full band, hehe... (Carnivore and a new one) That would be COOL!! So, here is a look back to Jan 99. Date: Sun, 03 Jan 1999 22:41:39 EST From: thessalia@juno.com (la luna) Subject: maybe you feel this way too a slightly plump beautiful city-girl starts to take the world by storm. she doesn't play the guitar very well, and her voice is still experimenting with itself. i got ahold of this crazy promo called phyllis barnabee gets a bra..... and then pieces of you. i listened to angel standing by 25 times. enter who will save your soul: 1. jewel is finally getting played on the radio. i went to her show last week and she told some girl to shut up cuz she was talking during my own private god's gift to woman. she told us she likes burritos and she said fuck a lot. after the show i got to meet her and she gushed over me when she found out i was an eda. i like her views about joy and innocence but she isn't afraid to write about depression and lust. the list is buzzing about her becoming popular. sean warns everyone that we don't want her to become popular. jewel is on mtv with melissa. is jewel wearing too much make-up? 2. jewel education begins. on the list, we find out everything from her non-existent middle name to steve poltz's definition of cheese. a close knit family. a special family beaming with radiance. let's get together. the eda phenomenon leads to jewelstock. everyone knew the words to memoirs of a housewife. radio interviewers were still fascinated by jewel because they could have innocent crushes on her because of that crooked tooth, her wit, her ice-princess fertility. my friend and i stayed up late looking at porn pages and noone had yet spliced her head with some voluptuous naked woman doing jumping jacks.i somehow have 15 tapes of shows i didn't go to and know about every jewel media appearance 3 weeks before it happens. enter you were meant for me 3. jewel is singing to me. i print out pictures of her on a dot matrix printer in my dorm room and paste them in my journal with quotes from amen. everysong on jewel rocks the paradise is about me and my ex-boyfriend. jewel wears a sheer dress to the grammy's and all the eda's are online at the same time. i receive 40 messages saying "OH MY GOD, YOU CAN SEE HER NIPPLES" and "SINCE WHEN DOES JEWEL HAVE A BRITISH ACCENT?" the way jewel says "yellow" in painters and carnivore really bugs me. the video comes out and her sexuality, oh i'm sorry, SENSuality becomes the focus of 6million platinum americans. the list experiences extreme growing pains. what is the *exact* definition of NJC? everyone replies to any flames with "do you hate me because i'm pieces of you?"anyone notice that jewel wrote angel standing by for twenty different reasons? i still can't fall asleep at night unless i listen to jewelstock tape two. if you see me speak without words, know that i am speaking of the wind. 4. remember when the album was to come out in--was is november? of 1996? then february. 13 year old girls stop posting their poetry. jewel is on every major talk show. isn't she wearing too much make-up? what? race-car driver is about sex? the tiny lights tour. cello. hot dog fest. i secretly begin to base my own bitchiness on jewel. i somehow feel it is a rite of passage. like being a pre-raphaelite mixed with a juliana hatfield. ohh---remember when everyone thought juliana was jewel on my so called life? sometime during this time, my friends from germany came to visit me and i taught them about jewel. they loved the rarity of just a girl and her guitar--the same things i loved about her. she's even a dork! :-) she brought her parents on with her at hard rock live! enter foolish games 5. i was shocked by the radio version. is that a stray cymbal? the video was another beautiful artwork. is that jewel's horse? are those kimono girls. sean predicts the end of the world again. jewel gets more and more distant in interviews. i find myself falling asleep to silence. i hear foolish games everywhere i go and long for when she used to play her guitar when she sang it. she moves her hands unnaturally when she doesn't sing with the guitar. but look at that face. those eyes! and she convinces me that she is still that ice angel. i cover my new apartment wall with promo pics and magazine cutouts. jewel is on the cover of rolling stone and i don't recognize anyone who posts on the list anymore. people start treating mr. bb like a required liason. 6. jewel sings the national anthem. i just keep thinking of radio angels and how she says the anthem is an ugly song. she had yet another new look. isn't she wearing too much make-up? isn't her hair too blond? she doesn't shake our hands after the new years eve show that cost over a hundred dollars or something to attend. oh heavens no. i watch my second generation version of hard rock live in slow motion and learn to play every song on my guitar. i write i love jewel on the back of a bathroom stall door for nostalgia's sake. enter a night without armor 7. jewel gets spiritual. jewel gets blonder and lets her beautiful thighs reblossom. jewel makes a movie. jewel flies all over the world all the time. i don't feel like i know her. i can't quite get my jewel formulated smart ass remarks right. i delete every message on the list and have to join the digest because i can't keep up. i miss the harris bros. for some reason jewel never directly answers a question. go back and watch the view, rosie, even fanatic from right after anwa was released. and ohhh. especially oprah. i realize i have had 4 different email accounts since i have been on the list and lived 3 places. i feel a little bit worried when i find out the new album is to be called spirit. even the name is so blandly abstract compared to fritz creek store. but i am excited about the new album. maybe she will take that raw descriptive voice in memoirs of a housewife and louisa and her blue guitar and moon over austin and refine it. i love the characters in her songs. i haven't heard her say fuck in a long time. well i guess she is on network tv. enter spirit 8. jewel, where are you? you don't know if you even *like* your first album--if you ever did? remember when you couldn't pick a favorite song because they were all like your children? your eyes are clear but your teeth look like smashed out window panes. you are alone, aren't you. you are lost but you know you have to look like it is all on top of a grain of salt. maybe that's just what i want to think. maybe you are happy, but remember when you were in awe of bob dylan's garlic breath? i am sure that was all inspiration, not idolatry. if i could, i would steal you away and give you your own private alaska where noone cares who you are. what your purpose is. i am sorry that i was so upset that you barely played your guitar on your new album. that you have forgotten about spivy leeks. i am glad you had fun with the new rolling stone interview. i still believe in you, really. but now you are a celestial angel. i miss the "i am not five six, my legs aren't skinny as sticks" angel. i guess what i miss the most is that you used to bottle human nature so exactly with your combination of organic guitar playing and everyday life struggles. you made me feel that even if i was someone like louisa or the narrator in foolish games or the poem song, I COULD STILL FIND BEAUTY IN THE LITTLE THINGS and hope to be better tomorrow. i cannot relate to freedom anthems. i cannot relate to massive white noise music like i can to your very own fingers playing the guitar. you taught me to play the guitar. jewel go your own way. but i am disappointed and that is fair too. luna - ----------------------------------------------- _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #676 ***************************
